Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has input on the best way to solo in lowsec with Gallente battleships? I am looking for setups/tactics/etc. Please keep setups reasonable, not looking to fly around in a loot pinata. This is assuming a Legion/Damnation/Prophecy booster ship as well as Standard Exile boosters, and I'm not looking to debate "OMG SOLO WITH GANG BOOSTER!!!"
So far I have read of this setup: [Hyperion] Hi's 8x Electron Blaster Cannon II Mid's 2x Heavy Electrochemical Capacitor Booster 1x Quad Lif MWD 1x Fleeting Web 1x Faint Epsilon Scrambler Low's 2x LAR II 1x EA Explo/Kin/Therm Hardener II 1x DCU II
4x Ogre II
But although it has incredible tanking numbers I am afraid it will chew through it's cap boosters before it can kill anything with its low damage/range, perhaps better for bait, not solo work?
I have also played around with this setup on the test server: [Megathron] Hi's 7x Neutron Blaster Cannon II Mid's 1x Heavy Electrochemical Capacitor Booster 2x X5 Web's 1x Fleeting Warp Disruptor Low's 1x LAR II 1x MAR II 2x EANM II 1x DCU II 2x MFS II 5x Ogre II
As much as it puts down the damage it's tanking numbers are kind of weak and I don't know how it would survive in low-sec versus the typical small gangs... Also without a propulsion mod the target may run away/never get within your web range...
Is it expected that a battleship will carry a propulsion mod, even considering that it will never catch anything, or should it focus more on laying down damage? I realize that the propulsion mod is more for getting in range quicker, however with Null and Neutrons your range tops 20km without tracking computers, more if you use tracking computers (on a Hyperion for example)...
One final question, are Slaves worth it when active tanking a Gallente battleship? Or should i be looking at Snakes/ECCM implants?
TL;DR Help me win with Gallente battleships solo!

Requires CPU implant to fit, but could remove the neut or drop it to a med. Obviously, it's a throwaway ship. But with 1500 OH'd DPS absolutely nothing is going to survive the onslaught of this thing. The tank, while not amazing is still a respectable 83k EHP.
Pricetag is kept low by low meta level items ( required for the fit to work at all, this is a CPU hog. ) I would not suggest going in to PvP in a blaster boat ( Domi is a different story ) without at least a warp to target within min scram/web distance of the target, in lieu of that an MWD is a requirement. Assuming you have remote boosters tossing some rep drones on one of them should not be a huge issue should this ship survive the battle, even if it doesn't it is guaranteed to take several more ships to the great space-junk heap in the sky with it. And at a rough cost of around 30-50 mil after insurance you can afford to lose several. |

Yeah, I agree that would probably take a few ships down while it dies, but I was hoping my ship would survive at least one engagement .
I was trying to find the Gal equivalent of the Crystaled Maelstrom - capable of soloing small gangs and coming out alive. I mean we should be the second best active tankers with our armor boost bonus... |

Soloing in a battleship in factional war will just get you tackled, blobbed and dead, in my opinion.
Viable solo ships (i.e. ones where you can actually kill someone and then escape the blob) are, in rough order of best to worst:
- Cynabal - Vagabond - Stabber Fleet Issue - Hurricane/Nano drake
Also possible with some fast frigates and interceptors but this is harder.
Also you can solo in some artillery fit ships (e.g tempest, hurricane). You rely on their high alpha to pop small enemy ships outside of point range before they can react, but this will also attract a blob so be careful. |

Gallente tend to be borderline do-or-die kind of ships vs the minmatar GTFO fighting style - if you manage to blast your opponents off the field you survive if not you just go down in a blaze of glory. |

Are you actually roaming looking for a fight or are you station hugging? Domi is the better choice for the "I could run into anything, solo roam", heavy neut Fit, Hyperion is the better choice for the I know what I'm fighting and I'm going to PWN it with mah 3 characters...solo... :)
As someone already said though, if you plan to do this in FW...don't...go buy 3 BCs instead, and do the same thing in triple rep Myrms! |

Tri/dual rep Myrms are by far my favorite solo PvP ships. But he was asking about blaster boats, putting blasters on a Myrm actually makes it worse. I prefer 220mm Vulcan II's. |

@Dark Was hoping to do some actual roaming, favorite activity is baiting pirates in low-sec belts... Gets me killed quite often, trying to mitigate that, as I don't feel I'm getting blobbed by unbeatable odds most of the time, I just don't know that I am performing well enough...
@Vestily I didn't specify blasters in fact, and I have seen the triple rep a/c myrmidon in action and it is quite awesome.. I was hoping to do something similar (read: huge tank and decent ass kicking) with a battleship class to take advantage of the heavier tank possibility. I know the obvious up scaled Myrmidion is the Dominix - I was just hoping to find more alternatives, as well as setups for the Dominix itself.
@Uppsy I don't actually fly FW
@foksieloy Have you got a setup for a triple rep Dominix that doesn't blow its load of boosters before the fight begins?
I was really hoping to get similar results to Gods Coldblood (if anyone has seen his videos). I realize that in his videos he's running a faction battleship with 3 bil in equipment to do the job, I was just wondering if I could get anywhere near that performance without selling my newborn. |

This is a reasonable (read not too expensive) Domi fit I would be ok using "solo"...Needs Implants...and for the target to come to you...which if you are baiting should not be an issue...this requires micro management. You need to selectively overheat. You have about 3.5 minutes under normal circumstances or about 2 minutes if you go balls to the wall...
In my experience most EVE fights (on a small scale) end in under 30 sec...some go to 2-3min...
Once you neut out whatever is most dangerous you cycle 2 neut to keep them neut-ed out. Not everything stays on all the time. The long point/dual web is my preferred tackle...let them keep their MWD on while moving at 100m/s...and eating sweet sweet neuts...
There are other fits also, blasters, ACs, etc etc etc...but neuts cover a lot of ground...a LOT of ground...and being able to cap out those 3 BCs running you down means a lot...

That is quite an entertaining video, but that's really all it is. He has so much help you don't see. On top of using Navy boosters ( he's probably consumed more in one fight than he'll make back off of 20 full tech II fitted BS kills ) he's got an alt in a transport ship dropping off fresh boosters, as well as one or more off grid boosters. In reality these kinds of fights aren't going to happen, you're going to be popped very quickly facing those odds.

With a Legion booster, I would suggest a dual rep or triple rep Dominix - just make sure to fit a Heavy Neut on (seems so useful vs active tanked BCs, kiting ships etc.) for Battleship class and a triple rep Myrmidon (just make sure to fit an anti-explosive rig to cover that resist hole!). |

Not really. Losing a ship means losing those expensive mods, but you can just warp your pod out when your ships dies and preserve the Slave set. Admittedly this is a little harder since spamming warp when you are about to die stopped working properly, but the point still stands - implants are harder to lose in lowsec.
To the OP, the real problem with this idea is how easy a battleship is to lose. Don't get me wrong, flying a dual-rep Hype solo is one of the manliest (like, hair all the way up to the ******* neck manly) pastimes you can follow, but the viability is destroyed by the fact that you'll die to the first gatecamp/blob that manages to catch you.
If you really wanna do Gallente then you'll find that you have to commit completely to pretty much every engagement, which only tends to get you killed. Unless you have deep wallets and no care for killboard stats then you really need to stick to drone boats, or the frigates (as light blasters don't suck nearly as much as their larger counterparts). Sure, it's more difficult to get podded in lowsec considering that there are no bubbles, but an insta-locking ship could still point you if they're so inclined. |

I would not fly a hype as they cost alot and the domi hands down out preforms it due to its versitlity.
What works really well is the dual rep domi (shown below) It reps with no boosters and no gang links 890 dps 1325 dps heated, so with links shes a beast. Just watch for abbadons as the em is the hole in your tank.
As for damage 800 is a good number but can be a little low for some situations.
The thing that sets this ship above the hype is its anti frig/cruiser ablity (web + light drones + med guns) and also its cheapness.

@Andski - Yes, I have also concluded I would get better value out of more expensive modules than an implant set, but as everyone keeps mentioning Gallente is do or die, and I don't want to keep throwing that kind of money into the fray... I have a better chance of keeping implants through multiple engagements, especially if i don't advertise the fact that I have them .
Very interesting Dominix fits guys, and I've actually fielded that last setup (posted by mitch3190) - worked well up until I made an amateur mistake after which I decided I wanted a lot more practice on the test server. I'm surprised that there is no love for our tier 2/3 brethren, besides the Hype/Mega fit that I posted, and the Megathron by Vestily (which really reminds me of a scene from ST:DS9 where the dominion soldiers are getting ready to enter battle "I am dead, I go into battle to reclaim my life - Victory is life!") we have not seen any recommendations for the larger boats.
I do understand that the level of commitment is higher when fielding an easily tackled vessel with some value to its killboard post, however I would think there would be at least some reward for the extra risk. Do the larger ships just not have a place in solo PvP? I've read quite a few times as of late that the Hyperion just doesn't have its niche, I was kinda thinking that with its active tanking bonus, perhaps solo might be it's specialty?
Not trying to troll here guys, just trying to keep the discussion going, there's a lot of poo-poo about Gallente as of late... I realize our weapon systems aren't what they used to be, but I think that perhaps with a little ingenuity we can work through the problems that the gods have thrown at us. I remember it wasn't that long ago that projectiles were the bottom of the pile - and stayed that way for many years, that didn't mean they would be laughed off the field, it just meant you were the underdog. Winning as the underdog made victory that much sweeter, I am just hoping to recapture a bit of that with our newly minted crap shooters . |

Believe me, people aren't reluctant to pod you in lowsec, especially if they have access to nullsec where grinding a -10.0 security status to positive just takes a few hours if you know what you're doing.

Quinilan wrote:. Do the larger ships just not have a place in solo PvP?
Some do, some don't. With the way the game is currently balanced and the emergence of blob culture for a ship to be truly viable it needs an escape mechanism. Sure, killing everything that attacks you is technically one but it's very easy for people to bring more ships than you can handle. The only only larger ships that are considered viable are Battlecrusiers and down (as they're still fairly speedy/agile) and Battleships that nano well (and even those are only really on the absolute cusp of being viable). Machariels, Tempests are the prime examples of this, as they have good range, good damage, and the best-in-class for speed.
Don't get me wrong, the Hyperion and the like are viable solo, but you need to be very careful when engaging. Making sure who you're trying to kill doesn't have friends anywhere close, and if he does making sure that you can engage him and his friends and likely win - information like this is the key to making the ship work. If you can find say a lone Battleship or Battlecruiser then the Hype can almost definitely kill it, as those things are mean 1v1 or even 1v2-3 if your skills are leet and you're using boosters/faction implants/shiny modules.
The real way to make this work is to pick and choose fights very carefully. Don't engage heavy neuting ships, don't engage in a hot system, don't engage someone who can blob you very quickly. Problem is, finding a target than fulfils these requirements is rarer and rarer these days :(. Commanding Officer of the Treacle Tart Brigade |

As a gallants bs pilot with perfectly trained skills (even have marauders 5) there is no I win solo fitting especially when flying gallente. Gallente at the moment are situational in fights at best especially when dealing with battleship size hulls. The domi is overall the most versatile and seems to be the choice of many pilots simply due to its variety of fittings it can boast as well as it's ability to adapt in todays eve.
That being said if you want to fly a true solo gallente ship it has to be the mega. Sorry but im biased simply because I love the ship and know how to fly her. I personally fly a dual rep mega with ions or the typical neutron plate mega. However a word of caution again.
These ships are not I win buttons. They are perfect for their roles yet very limited. Of you want a solo ship is advise a bricked ham or heavy missile drake. Their a blast to fly and a ***** to kill.

While the Kessah domi is fantastic I typically swap the highs for 425mm ACs. Reasoning behind this is, greater options with range, I know typically you will be up close but in the time to get there ACs make up some extra damage. ACs are also capless, I know you are boosting heavily but when you are being neuted you can focus on timing your boosters and reps and not have to reactivate guns. Third reason behind this is the damage selection, the largely thermal hybrid damage will often clash with your drones so its nice to be able to mix it up with some EM or explosive.
Also add a legion alt, before legion the domi will be tanking 1200 DPS, with implants and exile. With legion you are looking at 2200 DPS, you can also add a skirmish link to help extend your tackle for easier catches.
As others have said the other gallente BS really aren't worth looking at for solo, the hyperion is arguably one of the worst BS ingame and the domi is easily one of the best for solo, the other main contender being the 'phoon. |

Echoing what was said above, fitting 425 ac's instead of neutron blasters on Kessah domi lets you add a little damage type selection, has pretty similar damage when considering range and they don't use cap. It also allows you to fit a large smartbomb to kill the always present ecm drone swarm in a few cycles (need to downgrade a cap booster to meta 4 iirc). |

The lower dps of the ACs but their increased ability to deal said dps sounds great in theory... and in most cases in Eve this is probably true, but for these kinds of fights i'd rather have the extra dps at very close range.
I would prefer neutrons just be the simple fact of what kind of situations that this setup is meant to fight in. From my experience, when you bust camps and small gangs in the kessah domi, people will be approaching you carelessly thinking that this will be a swift and easy kill GÇô range haven't been a problem for me so far. Fights also often happen in compact spaces - like warping in on people hugging a gate or undocking on people camping you in station.
And considering that you are likely to engage 1 v many then it becomes very important to dish out the maximum amount of damage as fast as possible to either 1) decrease the maximum estimated damage by killing off their ships fast or/and 2) getting a psycologichal advantage by scoring a few fast kills with a tank that wont break. Remember, you are working under the clock of your dual injectors eating away your booster supplies and more often than not - before you burn out your tank.
In a nutshell - when the layout of the battlefield are factored into the stats Blasters have an advantage over ACs
Edit: Not saying that ACs are wrong, just that in my opinion the added versatility of ACs don't make up for the explosiveness of blasters. |

So after living in denial about this, I finally plugged the Kessah Dominix into my favorite fitting calculator, and what do I find? Much to my horror the flying space turd is getting within 30ehp/s tank of the highest tanking T2 Hyperion. Even worse it's getting close to the same damage! All this without the range and damage projection issues of blasters (with the majority of your damage being drones).
The horror!
In fairness, any discussion about Gallente battleships would need to include the Dominix, but I expected it to hold ground as a second rate citizen... Now I plead to all Gallente loyalists - redeem our battleship lineup, show me somewhere the Hyperion and Megathron can excel in solo PVP! |

Just as I recommended the forever pirates videos to realize the awsomeness of the kessah domi GÇô I now wish I could direct you Farjung's wave of mutilation video when you ask about the Megathron.
But people say that the years have taken a greater toll on the mega compared to the domi for solo pvp and even tho I'm not nearly as experienced flying the mega, it certainly looks like that's true. I know that some fly it with some success tho. Consider stepping out of the the mental prison that some ppl are confined to when fitting the mega.
