Doesnt make sense why spots are filled up in 48hrs when eve has like 500 alliances. 64 is more of a competiton number :)

Exactly, 4 groups of 5 becomes 4 groups of 8, so what its a few extra matches which is what we all want (fans and players) i'd imagine its only CCP that doesnt want the hassle. Most major tourny's are setup this way.

yes, very clever. point is. the broadcasts are already a long tiring affair. great fun I'm sure, but tiring. make it longer? make the event last longer? when?
If you start earlier, US timezone people get irate. If you finish later, it gets late for Euros
If you add an extra day, when do you do it? It has to be friday, sat or sun, so that means adding another weekend on, which then doubles how long people spend organising, televising, and competing in the event
Oh noes, heaven forbit it might take a little extra effort to squeeze another weekend in. If they want to make things easy, cut the tourney down to 5 teams and u could have the comp over in a matter of hrs.

I agree with the PL guy, group stages shouldnt be telivised only the last 32 if things are too difficult and expensive to organise a complete 64 team comp. Lets face it, eve is becoming more and more popular, its going to be a shame to have each tourney with missing entertaining sides such as BoB, AAA, Red Alliance, Hun (defending title), Goons etc.
