I still can't believe that some people don't have basic culture in a conversation. On the other hand will you please stop the anti-american campaign? This is not the place for it, if you want to discus US and it's politics find another forum. Remember that this topic was about EVE coming to Steam.
The funny thing is that nobody really reads what Wrangler said that Steam will not be required for playing EVE. It won't even patch EVE for you (though I would like to see that) and some say not even the overlay will work (most probably if it's not running through Steam).
And again all those who are having troubles playing EVE while Steam is running - please get some urgent help as your system is pretty much fc*ked up either on software or hardware level. Or both.
It's everyone personal choice to like or not to like Steam, but I really haven't seen much logic or facts in this thread. Or sense at all.
And as a final note; I will report anyone who can't show some basic culture and at least a bit of respect. I'm totally fed up with stuff like "you're american you sc*k" or "you're not american you sc*k" and all the similar stuff.
Can we finally get on topic and get some argumented discussion here? (I am very glad to see that some can maintain this level.)

I currently manually run Eve Online through steam so I can use the Steam Friends chat while running Eve fullscreen.
Once eve online is integrated into steam, will it show our gameplay time on our steam community profiles?

So this, this is as far as we have fallen as a community. Pathetic.
CCP should lock the thread, or at least do something to curtail the rampant idiotic posts itt.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it. I see no one from the steam supporters addressing the raising lag concerns.
All I hear from the pro-Steam front is "ZOMG!! reed teh tred nub!! u no n33d teh st34mz0r 2 ple =v=!!! ne wai, itz da sh1zn1t"

Do you mean lag from more people joining or lag from Steam itself?
I guess it's from more people joining.. But more people can join even without Steam, right? CCP could have started a global ad campaign and then we would be doomed. Lag is a great problem I agree and the only thing that can help is a server farm upgrade. Let's hope that will happen as Oveur said at the Fanfest last year..

Of course more people can join at any time, but I'd wager one of the main reasons to distribute via steam is to have that number of subscriptions rise faster.
Imagine some 10k new trials thrown onto the servers through the promotion. They won't log on when the server load is low. They, too, will log on mostly during peak hours. As it is right now, lag is pretty nasty during those hours. I would prefer CCP had the infrastructure ramped up before those players show up, not as a result of the current annoying lag turning into unbearable lag.
I'd love to see more targets, but as stated before, all the targets in the world won't help if I can't get a lock on them before the server shuts down. Why would I want a massive influx of players if that makes the game unplayable? I don't want to pay for a game that's not playable.

iirc only 5000 trials can log in at any given time. __________________

Yet the many "h" letters in your name strongly suggests you are. Is this a flame? I dunno, but if it is, you did ask me to feel free to flame
Hmmm I think you missed the actual flaming ;)
And as for my nick its one of two nicks I use and I came up with when I was 14-15 when I started playing games. I mashed keys on the keyboard and added in vowels. However Shigawah didn't look right to me so I added a few more Hs until I hit the char limit for a character name of that game (10 points to anyone who tells me what game) and I am thankfull it wasn't eve as there would have been far more H's heh.

Nice. Now Steam has no use at all except buying an activation key for first time customers and nothing else.
The side effect is a horde of counter strike kids that want to use their AK-47s in space. Lets just hope the community doesn't change for the worse..

Seriously? That's good news. That would help a bit, at least to stall the problem for a few weeks.

Steam is basically a retailer, they will advertise EVE and they will sell EVE accounts, an that's the extent of things. No one will run EVE through Steam unless of course you absolutely want to but it won't be any built in function in EVE, it would be built into Steam.
Do I need to post these things in big red letters?

Quite frankly it couldn't be any worse than the myriad of crap posting that infests our boards now. I mean for crying out loud, somebody first post sniped this thread, that nobody moderates out crap like that here is beyond me. This forum used to be something, but it's really gone to seed with the same boring whines day in and day out, by the same tired bunch of people pushing their respective agendas. The noise/signal ratio here is abysmal now as every single thread is seemingly filled with spam and circlejerking, and other idiotic posting.
This.
I honestly couldn't be bothered reading the forums any more. The poster I've quoted has it right.
The forums used to be about Eve, now they are about an imaginary version of CCP who run the game to grief people and so on. They are about how every player personally owns Eve, has the right to dictate how it is played, how it is run, how it is distributed.
The forums of this game detract so much from the gaming experience, that I would advise anyone new to them to leave immediately, before they get sucked into the bottomless pit of hate, ignorance, and arrogance (and last-word-itis).
Honestly, Christianity vs Atheism forums are less agressive!

Thank you for giving this anwser because i will never install STEAM or anyother game THAT needs that app to be even running because for that it is junk.

Yep. Put it next to the Dev statement that EvE is a PvP game.

This will probably also mean that they will make the EVE client compatible with the Steam Community overlay. As it is at the moment, starting EVE through Steam via a shortcut allows you to pull up the overlay and use it in its entirety, but when you dismiss it, the mouse cursor disappears permanently from EVE's user interface. All in all, good to hear. |

You might want to smatter it across 500km-wide billboards next to every station, for that matter. It probably won't help people get the hint, but it's worth a try.

You would buy a EVE CD key from Steam and yes, it would work like any other CD key sold by us, you get the game and 30 days of game time included then you have to start paying the normal subscription fee.

Pretty much so. Some people are quite ignorant. Change it to "will be purchaseable via steam" or so. "coming to steam" gives people misconception of things.
I predict a burst increase in both player-count and lag. However, both should reduce somewhat over time as EVE onlines somewhat more complicated gameplay (compared to your generig mmorpg koran-style) probably won't suit a good amount of those players. They'll probably quit once the get popped the 3rd time after going into lowsec with named mods they can't afford to lose. ---

Just thought I would add something here... I have no concerns regarding steam passing out eve to the masses. I like steam. One of the posters in this thread mentioned they didn't want steam "seeing" eve (for what reason I don't know, not as if it matters in any way) and they didn't want eve "seeing" steam. I opened steam and in the games list, eve is not present. However, if you type eve into the search field it does bring up an eve page that says coming soon. It gives some screen shots and an HD video to watch. The funny thing is that steam shows eve as being in my account already, where normally it shows the price. Leads me to believe that steam does indeed see my installation of eve online. Again, I have no issue with that... just thought I'd share it.
I will however be interested to see how long it takes to login at peak hours once steam starts passing out those 21 day trials, not to mention jita's traffic.
