So I'm thinking of possibilities on how to set up my hybrid railguns, which have an optimal range of 18 km and a falloff of 10. If I fit this module with whatever ammo type it is that halves my optimal range by 50%, reducing it to 9km, will the falloff range drop proportionately, or will it simply reverse, and anything higher than 10km will be misses, but around 9 and below will be okay. I think I worded that correctly....its a little confusing

Ammo types should have an optimal and falloff range multiplier (T1 has only optimal)
Optimal multipliers do not affect falloff and vice versa.
For example fitting multifrequency into lasers will halve your optimal range but not touch your falloff. __________________________________

OP doesn't understand how turrets work.

Turret range 101:
Assuming all other factors are perfect:
1. A turret will always hit a target that is at or below Optimal Range. 2. At Optimal Range + Falloff, your chance to hit drops to 50%. 3. At Optimal Range + 2x Falloff, your chance to hit drops to 0%.
Anything that specifically modifies your Optimal Range, be it a module, a skill, or an ammo type, does not change your Falloff and vice versa.

Not exactly true, but best estimate so far. Ignoring tracking and signatures you'd be hitting 4-6% at Optimal + 2x Falloff.

This is only half true. You haven't taken into consideration your targets Sig Radius versus your guns and its transversal velocity. Best to read the tutorial posted in the player guide.
Otherwise new players will look at that statement and go- why the hell am I not hitting them??? they're inside my Optimal??

True, it was an approximation that didn't include other factors, but the OP asked a question about range, I answered it. I also prefaced my answer with a warning that everything else needs to be perfect. One poster before me linked the OP the turret guide so I didn't think linking it again would do much. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |
