I don't think graphical upgrades and content are ever given priority over performance improvements as different people work on different parts of EVE, and only so much can be done at once. Still, it's frustrating as hell when this sort of thing happens, especially when it happens for no reason we can understand (two big-but-not-huge gangs that didn't even get into the same system.)

I would prefer to play eve in 1985-style wireframe graphics, but actually have it playable
Last night was a joke. This wasnt a 300 v 300 uberblob, it was 100 v 100 and we werent even in the same system.
We each experienced epic lag in our different systems and were unable to do anything.

I don't play in no-sec, so i don't have the same perspective as alot of guys posting here, but even in empire my alt was involved in a small engagement (about a half dozen ships all in all) and the client(s) pretty much ground to a halt. We only found we had won when we all relogged to find the enemy wrecks.
The stories of nightmare lag are part of the reason why i'm put off 0.0 and fleet stuff.
40k users seems to be Eve's fail limit.

It's stories and experiences like these that made me give up on alliances, move to empire, and lately to join TNT, where we do much smaller ops than the big alliance fleets. As a result, lag is negligable and we have some pretty good fun. I feel for you guys.
One can only hope the big multi-node distributed load project has a real impact (positive) on this sort of thing when it arrives. We can only wait and see. ___________________________________

We had an OP leading through S-E a bit earlier with roughly 25 ships, you noticed allready a unusual lag in the surrounding systems.
Later that day, it took me 10 minutes to jump in S-E. I remember my FC saying: "Naomi, tell me something about the hostile fleet" "Well, i would, but i'm still sitting at the gate."
As i finally jumped in to S-E it was roughly at a local of 70. It was an interesting situation but sadly ccp didnt want it to happen.
Oh, "fight in lower numbers" is a very lame argument.

So I'm guessing you've missed all the threads on Infiniband and all the CCP replies in them then.

Lets talk about it the day it goes beyond the blablabla stage and is implemented. Until then the impact this will have is speculative.
Upgrading hardware is no cure for duct tape programming style or design flaws.

I¦m happy to see one player that is 100% happy with the talking CCP does, if that makes you feel better fair. As posted above we want to see actions and no more talking about. I wont say more to your reply. Everyone can have his / her Opinion.

I think this is the thread you're looking for.
It didn't put my fears for the future to rest. To me it seems like Infiniband will help mission systems and systems like Jita where players are in different locations, but'll have little effect on large fleet battles. The reason for this is that a single grid (as in 'where a fleet battle happens') still can not be shared between CPU's even with Infiniband, and CPU capacity seem to be the limiting factor.
Personally I think CCP should realise that it is simply not feasible to have large fleet battles with current technology, and restructure the game around that fact (ie. nerfing the advantage of blob'ing).
Read the thread yourselves...... I might be too pessimistic, and am willing to be pleasantly surprised, but unfortunately I don't think I will be
My views are my own. They do not represent the views of my corporation or alliance. |

Well it looks like its pretty lag free tonite in your region. At least the Z-K495 system with the smallish camp seems to be and accourding to the local there was a minor failed login trap. Maybe when you had your previous battle the node was already stressed by someone elses tussle?
