So in another 10 days or so I'll have the skills done to fly an interceptors, specifically Gallente ones. I've been pouring over setups for them but I still have some questions.
So far for PvP I've been flying a blaster-fitted Thorax, so I have no worries about getting in close and stuck in. For interceptors though, "being webbed" is pretty much the same as "being dead", so I'd like to try (if possible) to avoid excessive dying in the first couple of weeks.
Is a blaster Taranis really the way to go, or should I start off maybe with a railgun-fit to just gets used to the ship first?
I have this so far for a blaster-'Ranis:
Small Armor Repairer II Micro Auxiliary Power Core I Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Warp Disruptor II X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator 1MN MicroWarpdrive II
Light Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Light Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Light Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Small Nosferatu II
Warrior II x2
The blasters, MWD and disruptor all run permanently if the NOS manages to keep cycling. It's quite appealing I must admit, is it a wise setup for a rookie 'ceptor pilot? I came up with a rails setup so I could stay out of web range:
Overdrive Injector System II Damage Control II Capacitor Power Relay II
1MN MicroWarpdrive II Cap Recharger II Warp Disruptor II
125mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Lead Charge S 125mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Lead Charge S 125mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Lead Charge S
Warrior II x2
With everything running the cap lasts 4m 30s, if I'm not being targetted I guess I can turn the MWD off.
Thoughts?

Ares Tackling
also using nos to tank is unwise as it will only work if you nuke your own cap which would then deny you any decent recharge rate

Id suggest you fit for long range if youre new to inties to get a feel for inties in combat situations. Once you feel comfortable go for the sub-10km inty fits because 1 mistake (and youll do alot of them if youre new to it) and youre dead before you can reach the warp button.

Actually nos is a must on a rep inty like blasteranis. There is nothing wrong with his fit.

I've never found a use for nos on a blaster ranis as I've always been able to pull out when things got hairy

Without nos+rep you will die to a nossing+repping rocket malediction. If you dont plan on fighting one sure youll prolly gank other inties just as well without the nos i guess but the repper will suck you dry very fast.

So if I go with a long range fit for now then, is the long-range fit I suggested any good? Any additions, tweaks?

put a sensor booster in the mids so you can keep targets scrammed for as long as possible when fighting long range or against EXTREME speed setups

The only ship I see the sensor booster helping is the Ares. With Inty 5 you're scramming to 30km only giving you a few more km to target with before your in scram range.

I've found the sensor booster helpful in ceptor duels when fighting extreme speed setups allowing me to keep lock

I used to fly a Rail Ranis all the time, Your setup looks good, dump the cap rehcharger for a web. It WILL save your ass, if you get webbedor when fighting other inties, the Taranis is slow, it needs to fit a web.
Fit Rigs also, even if its only 2 Aux thrusters, the extra speed is badly needed on a Rail setup. And Webbed=dead depends a lot on what your fighting. If a vexors drones are dead and im in a blaster ranis ill just go in at 50m and turn of the MWD. My sig is 27m teh web makes manual orbit easy and he dies.
Id fly a rail ranis to get used to them, you will loose a few whilst you get the hang of them.
