Ok people, I think I found the problem. I've fixed it on my PC anyway.
This morning I bought a new graphics card and downloaded the newest drivers for it. My new card is an ATI x1650 pro AGP version. My client wouldn't startup, Windows wouldn't co-operate, many hairs were pulled out. I reinstalled eve from an older client that I had backed up on CD and still the same problem, client not getting past the splash screen, so I figured the problem was at my end, not CCP's. I noticed on this forum that Xparky said some older Omega drivers fixed it for him, so I uninstalled my graphics card drivers (the current ATI website ones) and installed the drivers that I got on the CD that came in the box with my new graphics card, and now Eve works just fine.
So, in summary: My driver version is 8.391.0.0 and that works. Drivers my brother downloaded just last week for his ATI card work (not sure on version though). The current drivers on the ATI website do not work. If you updated, roll back because your drivers are the problem.
Also, if anyone is having this problem on a GeForce card, please post it and we'll go back to the drawing board, but I think the new ATI drivers are the problem.

If your updated drivers aren't the problem, then maybe check this sticky about crashing after splash screen. I just know that the drivers were the problem for me. http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=547045 |

I am having this same issue, running windows xp sp2 and an ati x800 pro card. this is very annoying, and I would appreciate if someone from ccp could at least give us some kind of update on this issue.

Edited by: mint89 on 03/02/2008 06:33:00 ok so i have fixed this problem for myself. To clarify, my particular problem was the one where the splash screen loads, but then the login screen will not. Eve just shows up on the taskbar, and exefile.exe is in my processes list in task manager. I had been running eve in WINDOWED MODE prior to this. I am running windows XP pro sp2 with an ATI radeon x800 pro video card. Here is a step by step of what I did:
-I upgraded my drivers to the latest catalyst 8.1 drivers. -I installed this Hotfix from the ATI site. -I rebooted my computer as instructed. -I tried running eve-online again. At this point, the same thing happened, HOWEVER, I tried pressing ALT + ENTER (or RETURN for some users), and as soon as I did this, the login window came back, only in FULLSCREEN mode.
I then was able to turn the client back to windowed mode just fine, and as of now this seems to have remedied the problem. I am unsure if anything besides an ALT + ENTER combo was really needed to fix this problem, but I am trying to give the most advice possible to fix this annoying issue. Best of luck to you all.
x-posted to other threads that deal with this issue.
edited for minor grammar error. ______________________

Edited by: Exxon Longbow on 03/02/2008 09:13:36 <<<FIXED
I use Geforce Ti4200, I did not do anything on my computer prior to the problem But heres what i did to fix it. 1. Uninstalled EVE 2. Reinstalled EVE (Revelations) 3. At this point, everything is normal i can get past the splash screen 4. Patched to Trinity 5. Now i cant get past the splash screen 6. Hit Alt+Enter 7. EVE now in full screen - Enjoy and fly safe It seems to be some stuff up with the recent patch i believe, i guess the work around is simple after all, no need to screw around with your graphics drivers, just try Alt+Enter first OR reinstall from a earlier patch and update + Alt+Enter
BUT! every time I switch from full screen back to window mode and quit the game - the same problem happens so you will have to Alt+Enter again or exit the game in fullscreen. So there is still some work for CCP to do to address this problem.

Edited by: Nicholas Scott on 16/03/2008 03:27:03 Same issue here û still have not been able to get this resolved despite trying the suggestions posted here and on other threads. IÆve filed a petition (through the web site), and received one reply on Friday morning asking for more information (dxdiag and log files) - nothing since. I have to say IÆm very disappointed with both the poor quality control and the customer service. I would expect CCP to provide some kind of messaging (either through the forum or on player news section of the web site) to update their many paying customers who are still not able to log into the game.

My petition on this issue has been open since 3/13/2008 18:34PST - Customer support responded on 3/14/2008 at 10:24PST asking for DxDiag and LogServer reports - not a word back from customer support since.
I've been reading the forums and have tried every recommendation I've found, but the issue persists.
Again, I'm completely unable to launch the game the game at this point. Any ETA on getting feedback or a fix for this issue?

same problem here with a nvidia 6200.
I had the hanging issue with alt-tabbing yesterday so I switched to window mode to fix that. when I go to load the game now I can't get past the splash screen just as the OP describes. I'm curious if it has something to do with window mode. ________________________________________

i am on nvidia 7900. I do make changes to my settings, but i also reset them back to default and this did nothing. My drivers were working just fine after the patch, so if ccp did a server side patch, that is the fault, not your computer. So dont start a thread about our problem, this was a server side patch that caused this. _________________________ CIVIL DEFENSE |

ok, i found an old EVE copy in one of my computer folders, and it was post trinity, but prior to the 1st of the patches since i think, i patched from that copy, and i was able to boot up EVE. I thinking maybe a corrupt file in our download, as it doesnt affect everyone... but im back in.. so its not a graphics issue obviously, i made no changes and my old clients do not work. so somewhere one of the post trinity patches were bugged. _________________________ CIVIL DEFENSE |

Hi, same problem, had it for ages before the newest patch, everyones taken notice now though :) anyway i run a nvidia 8400, 2G ram, amd 64x2 processor, nd the problem cycles through a few. I'm behind a proxy network all the time, so have to use http-tunnel and proxifier to connect. After pretty much every patch, i go throught the same ****dance of first getting the black screen, then nothing after the splash disappears (still running exe file with no result), and being able to connect just up until you hear "skill training completed" then freeeeeeze (incidentally its timing is so awesome if it was happening to someone else it would be hilarious.) Tried combinations of the available fixes; the lua:off switch (incidentally XP doesnt put "marks around the target, if i put them in they just disappear, reason?) clearing cache, audio disabled in both game and device manager, missing fonts, updating all drivers including ones for the chipset and stuff, just about to try the catalyst ones, if i get any result ill post asap. ccp u gotta help, ive spent sodding ages paying for nothing with the game, and my petition from yonks ago has been ignored, cheers yall

FIXED
This issue has to do with windowed mode. If you have this problem, after the splash screen and when EVE is still selected in your taskbar, simply press ALT + Enter. Your screen will flicker and then the EVE client will come up in fullscreen mode.
this was done with no reinstall, please try this out and post results.
Thanks to Exxon Longbow for posting this fix. ________________________________________

nah didnt work for me im afraid. previous post obviously meant omega drivers not catalyst for nvidia card :). Must be to do with other programs (at least my problem), as i can start eve without proxifier running, but obviously this means i get no connectivity. Omega drivers didnt work after testing, same problem, gone back to nvidia, mightt ry some rollback drivers, getting tired of trying to sort it out :) Had a thought; i have the following processes running in background: NVSVC32.EXE NMSAccessU.exe ATKKBService.exe CTFMON.EXE RUNDLL32.EXE JUSCHED.EXE UPDS.EXE EXPLORER.EXE SPOOLSV.EXE SVCHOST.EXE (x4) LSASS.EXE SERVICES.EXE taskmgr.exe WINLOGON.EXE CSRSS.EXE SMSS.ECE StarWindServiceAE.exe System System Idle Process
+ proxifier and http-tunnel when connecting to eve (and exefile.exe, cant forget that little beauty). Hope this might spark off something pleasingly obvious to make it work :D

This did not resolve my issue. The EVE client does not launch far enough to appear in my task bar, so hitting ALT + Enter does nothing. I get no ôcrashdumpö or ôminidumpö files, and running the LogServer app does not collect any information.
I cannot launch EVE on either of my accounts. My support petition has now been open since 3/13.

after i recognized that i also had problems with other DX applications, it must have been a hardware problem. so i actually unpluged all devices. and reconnected them to the motherboard. since then all works fine again.
