Edited by: Kais 12 on 26/01/2008 13:49:17 hi everyone, im a new player to eve, 2 weeks old approx.
i got myself onto lvl 2 Qual 19 missions so far and a total of 130 million isk in my account which i made through trading in rens using a alt account.currently flying a caracal but ready to move into a drake
this is my first ever mmorpg...and im wondering what to do next...
pirating sounds alluring and fun also...
so where wud i start?
what kind of blance shud i need?
i have been reading if ur a beginner then fly in a ship u can afford to lose?...
but saying this will i really be able to kill other ships in a frig?
im in a corp at the moment, based in oisio, small one abou ten memebers but the all specialise in mining and research and industry, they are a very helpful lot....but i want sum nore action...
they gonna take me to check out low sec in a few mins...after writing this...to get the feel for low sec as i havent ventured there yet...
can i make good money being a pirate? whats the income like?
most pirates i wud presume are very experienced players so how can i really make an income trying to kill these kind of players , of which i wud have no chance as a beginner?
any suggestions appreciated?
also any decent pirating corps?
thanks in advance
btw my main in game name is kais 1

You have way more money than I ever did at two weeks old. Unfortunately, if you move into pirating now, you're just going to get blown up. A lot. You need to develop more skills. If you really want to get involved, find a piracy corp to accept you and tag along while learning the ropes.

1. Do some research and select a T1 frigate to learn in and a good PvP fitting for it. I recommend a Rifter or Incursus.
2. Purchase, say, 10 of those frigates (you've got the ISK) and fit them for PvP. Set your mind on losing all 10 in lowsec PvP.
3. Proceed to lowsec and start hunting other frigates and maybe some cruisers with new pilots. After each encounter, win or lose, think about any lessons learned.
4. By this time you should be addicted to the adrenaline rush; it won't matter much that you won't be making huge profits; however, you're probably already profitable (I mean, it doesn't take many T2 or best named modules to pay for 10 T1 frigates).

loot or ransoms. or a trade alt. or nullsec ratting or whatever. typically just blowing people up doesnt make much money (though it can if you find a particularly juicy target) you may have to do something else for money occasionally. piracy is all about fun though really. find a pirate corp that will train you, come to the dark side muahahahahaah this out of all will remain, they have lived and have tossed; so much of the game will be gain, though the gold and the dice have been lost. |

made my way into low sec yesterday, a corp member introduced me to the functionality of the ship scanner and how to use it, found a target, approched and got fired upon, then went to a asteroid belt, the experienced corp member started doing sum rattting....
and then all of a sudden 2 ships appeared scrambled me and i was unable to do anything the got me and my pod (lucky i was in my jumpclone) copr memeber had warped long time b4...
anyways i lost my first ship and my first pod..was an experience i suppose...
i still think that a frig in low sec will not be able to do much if i went solo...
what do u guys think is the best ship for low sec.... for playing solo...

Trust me, a frig in lowsec can do a lot, and is the ideal way to learn lowsec solo PvP.
In my T1 frigate, I have killed almost every T1 frigate and cruiser in the game, and some battlecruisers. Solo. You're not exactly engaging veteran PvP'ers out there in the belts, my friend; it's mostly others much like yourself.
Check out my blog (link is my sig below) for stories of lowsec piracy in a frigate, including a link to my killboard. And I'm pretty much a noob still.

It was not so much the ship type that made you unable to do much, as it was the fact that you were outnumbered and outclassed. Your buddy knew this which is why he left. Those 2 pirates knew it because that is why they warped in. Now you must learn which fights you can win and which you have to run from, and use some of that new found knowledge of the directional scanner to make this decission BEFORE the unwinnable fight is uppon you.
And bringing some friends with you goes a long way in making fights winnable. Not just the one buddy, but several preferably in a variety of ships so that your fleet of battleship popping frigates won't get mauled by the first destroyer you come across.

The other option of coarse is...... becoming an anti pirate! There are many corps about doing the hope anti-p thing, the benefits are you don't loose sec, well not much Don't get me wrong, i'm not against pirating, i was -10 for quite a while myself! But when you gotta go earn some much needed iskies, sometimes you just have to get into high sec. With the changes this last year, loot has become pretty much worthless. Remember when looting a Fully T2 sniper BS was like winning the lotto? Those days are long gone.

honestly, your first step should be finding a good corp. pirate or not, a good corp is one of the finest things in EVE.
and stop buying isk from china imo.

i never purchsed isk from china , the money i made so far is from trading in rens..
i think im gonan carry on with missioning till i have a better balance and see where that takes me, my corp memebers are telling me i shud get a drake and then move onto a raven....so i think once im in a raven....i shud be at a ok level to take on otehr players.... so i will then consider going into pirating....but like the previous poster said....monet still needs to be earnt and that means going into high sec.... so what must one do...
i aint got no idea....
lol
anyways excellent game... i just wosh the skill training was faster...

first thing you should do is find a corp that can help you on your quest for piracy. a frig can be more then enough for low sec piracy now, and you can also aim for a t2 frig as your future pirate ship.

biggest mistake you can make is thinking you will be better off in that expensive bigger ship. Not only do you need the game skills (eg know who and when to fight), but your character needs a lot of skills to fly a bigger ship well. Learn pvp in frigates. Its cheaper, your character is better suited for it, and its fun.

I'm guessing your corp mates have a lot of experience running missions. The Drake and the Raven are excellent mission ships. They suck at solo piracy, though they could be useful in gangs. If you were in a pirate corp now, I bet you'd be getting different advice.

hmm... how many two week old characters who have never played an mmo before have a trading alt that made 130 million isk in two weeks, a main with a jumpclone...
No wonder they thought you were a spy...

You get a penalty to your security status if you do anything Concord would usually pop you for in highsec.
I believe agressing another player is a .5% security hit. Honesty not sure what the other ones are (10% for podding? 1% for ship destruction?).
And stay out of the Raven for PVP for now. You're going to end up in an expensive piece of scrap metal. I'm not trying to sound elitist (I wouldn't feel comfortable in most Battleships either with my skills), but it is a major step up in the skill ladder from cruiser/BC to battleships. Even more-so than frig->cruiser IMHO. And of course you're going to be a much bigger target in a BS. That plus being slower you'll be less able to create the terms of the engagement. A well-flown HAC (Heavy Assault Cruiser, a T2 cruiser) will utterly dominate you.
You can be very effective in frigates and cruisers. I'd suggest sticking to them for the time being, and look into joining a good pirate corp in your area to get the hang of things. Plus, roaming small gangs = loads of fun.
Good luck out there!
