Hurricane!
Although marauders are better. Basically you need 8 highs(destroyers, battlecruisers, battleships, marauders all have this), good cargo capacity(battlecruisers and up have this), lots of low slots(basically avoid caldari). Marauders also get the range and speed bonus for tractors which is damn sexy. My hurricane gets about 2900m3 of cargo goes nearly 900m/s with the MWD on and has 4/4 setup and is cap stable although that doesn't matter much. -=^=- "Someday the world will recognize the genius in my insanity." |

Hurricane high: 4 tractors, 3 salvagers, 1 auto-targeting system T2 med: AB or MWD, misc modules related to capacitor low: cargo extenders
ATS II does not need to be activated to provide +3 targets bonus, it just needs to be there. In the end I have 9 target locks instead of 6 hurricane defaults, so I can tractor 4 wrecks, salvage 3 that are already in range, and queuing the next wreck. |

Maybe you missed the memo. Only buildable T1 items went up in size, not the named. So just don't take them. Also, destroyers are only good savagers if your 6 months old or less and are still doing L3 missions.
Destroyers-Cheap, 8 high slots, run into cap/cargobay isues.
Cruisers-Some are good, some are great. The price is more than the destroyers, but Execurors and Stabbers are ok choices for the budget strickened. 7-10m isk fitted.
Battle Cruisers- This is where it's at. Any BC w/ 8 highs is a fine junk ship. Drop the salvage rigs on, fill the lows with cargo expanders, and in the medium yo upack in the AB AND MWD and never have a cap issue. 30-40m isk fitted.
Marauders - Well yeah these would be the best period. Double speed/distance on Tractor beams, huge cargo bay but in the 500-600m isk range.
NOTE: AB AND MWD on a BC+ are the bomb. You can run both and have options when your salvaging those pesky missions. Ruse, Ruse, Fast. Now you can't hit me. |

Depends on what skills your alt has / will have, but getting him/her into a bc with 8 hi slots means you can run with 3 slavage, 4 tractors and a gang link module. I use one for shield efficiency normally. Sometimes use a vulture with 3 siege links and 2 tractors / 2 salvage, but it isnt as quick as the standard hurricane i use normally.

Fair enough, but i mission in a kill ship, then salvage in a salvage ship...when i mission.
Your better off, really, using 2 kill ships (gang link in the 2nd if you want) and finish the mission faster. Then salvage with both. Or use a small ship w/ tractor beams to move the wrecks into groups, and use a rigged salvage ship to salvage/lootski. Ruse, Ruse, Fast. Now you can't hit me. |

Those buildable T1 items are some of the most valuable pieces of loot you can find (the large guns for example). But still a bit too large...
And after 2 years I'm using a cormorant... why would I use anything else (except maybe a catalyst)? With MWD II, small cap battery II and 2 cap recharger IIs it goes plenty fast and never runs out of cap. The only reason to use a bigger ship is for the bigger cargo... and since I clear 3-4 missions with each salvage run I always have lots of cargo, sometimes over 4,000m3. I just come pick it up in my hauler which takes a few more minutes. I'm sure I make up for that in the time I save aligning and warping 10+ times per round in a small fast ship.
But whatever floats your boat.

One of the Marauders. The Kronos has the most potential cargo space, but the Paladin can run the MWD for a lot longer. (And with 7x cargo expanders fitted, you're going to be running it a lot.)

The gist of it:
For poor people: Any destroyer For the averagely rich: Any 8 highslot BC, Hurricane is by far the best of the bunch. For the rich and well skilled: Any Marauder.
There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Scorpion There is no 'e' in Caldari There is no makeup in rogue drones |

Originally by: Sarinat Talen The stabber is my salvager of choice. While it has 2 less high slots than a destroyer, its superior speed helps me get to stray wrecks faster. It also doesnt have any of the cap problem you may encounter running all those salvagers and tractors, especially with a lower skill pt total. The tank will be better than a destroyer too "just in case". Salvager 1 x3 Small Tractor Beam x3 10mn Afterburner/microwarp (your choice on specifics) 2 mid slot shields mods (suit to flavor) 1 signal amplifier II (for the extra target) Nanos/Cargo expanders in the lows Salvage tackle x3
Almost exactly my setup. I used the 10MN afterburner, filled the mid-slots with large shield extenders (huge buffer tank) and used cargo expanders in the lows. 870m3 IIRC. It could get 600+ m/s and permacap the AB with 3 salvagers and 3 tractorbeams.
I can see how a hurricane would be better, especially if you're keeping all the loot from highlevel missions, but it seems a little excessive.

Like when people use a marauder for a dedicated salvage ship? A Hurricane only cost 30m, got 2000m3 cargo space, 8 highs and around 7-800 m/s speed with a mwd. Well worth it imo.

You folks are forgetting that you can't use mwd in most mission areas.

Yup, I guess Neena forgot that. Since wrecks last at least 90 minutes I manage to salvage 3-4 missions in a row, depending on how long the missions take.

anything with 8 upper slots and 3 rig slots make for great salvager.
Marauders best efficiency of tractor beams right now.
A combo of marauder for tractor and another for pure salvage would be most efficient.
Paladin/Kronos have most low slots so allow for the most cargo hold possible if thats your objective... but any marauder will get the job done as a tractor/loot ship.

May sound stupid to ask, but please tell the utility of having tractor beams for salvaging ?
Thanks

Wrecks need to be within 5000m to salvage them. With tractors you can pull in several wrecks at once from 20km which speeds up the process quite a bit.
