Try (shameless promotion) channel called: Eve University, in-game for more detailed answers. Basically... Gallente and Minmatar are best at PvP depending your style. Caldari is best at PvE. Amarr are best at destroying a POS in an extended siege.

The first best ship you can get from no matter what race you go with that you will be able to use for a very long time will be a Battle Cruiser. The best part of that for a new player is that the Skill Battle Cruiser is NOT race specific meaning the skill can be used for any of the races Battle Cruisers. So best thing for you to do in my opinion is study the information specs on all the Battlecruisers for all the races. The two most popular (powerful) Battle Cruisers are I believe the DRAKE and the MYRMADON.

If your gonna PvP you better stick to Frigates for a good long while, or you will bankrupt yourself financially. ok you're VERY wrong on most things the first best ship you get if you fly amarr is the arbitrator which is arguably the best cruiser for PvP then after that you get the maller which is the best cruiser tank (that's it for cruisers) but before you even get to cruiser level you've got all the frigs to go through cepters speed tanking is almost indestructable (read powerfull) then you've got electronic attack ships caldari- haha you can't shoot, minmatar- what? you call that nano? you're hardly even moving, amarr- yea so how do you plan to tank when you have no cap?, frogs- what you REALLY think you can lock me at this range? oh you can? sorry just let me.... ok how's that? didn't think you could assault ships suck so atleast you were almost right the advice on which ships to train was very good :) then once you've got cepters and electronic attack ships and crusiers and frigs you can train up for a hac also if you side track and get a destroyer you can get a dictor aswell or ofcause you can get recon ships.... and that's all before you even look at a battlecruiser :)

My suggestion would be to start out with Caldari strictly for PVE reasons to build a base of cash to work from and then train to Amarr if you'd really like, or perhaps Gallente/minmatar. ----------------------------------------------- People enjoy flying Amarr for the same reason they like being tied up in leather, whipped and called names
