Edited by: shags on 28/01/2008 07:14:06 As someone who has played many games, from MMOÆs to first person shooters, the lack of useful hotkeys has always been the thing that really bothered me in eve. Now ill admit CCP has added some that are great, the new drone hot keys are a great example. But we are still missing some very simple and common hotkey functions that would greatly increase the playability of the game. I have been keeping a list and talking with other people about them and I would like to share them now in hopes that the development team will take notice
Tags: Eve already has the system of tagging targets and a column in the over view to display these tags. The problem with this, and the reason I think its not really used very often, is that someone first has to tag the item by right clicking on it and using the menu. Once it is tagged other players have to look at their overview and find the tagged person and target them. In the heat of battle this takes to long (menu lag, people not having tags on overview, etc.) and it has always been easier to just call primaryÆs over Teamspeak.
To solve this problem why not do it with hotkeys. Key: Apply Tag n to target. û This would be a hotkey which would apply a tag for what ever number to the playerÆs current target.
Key: Lock Target with Tag n û This would be a key which would target what ever was tagged with the number n.
This would change the way targets are called. Your tacklers could first lock and tackle a target then hit the key to apply the tag to it. Then everyone else could just hit the key to target that tag and be on the same target. No more calling targets of names you canÆt pronounce and the other problems that come with calling targets this way. It also would allow you to split up your targets and do things like this: ôAll heavys target tag 1, all mediums and lights target tag 2ö etc, etcà
Some other keys that donÆt need much explanation.
Key: Orbit target at default range Key: Keep at range Key: Approach Key: Unlock target Key: Toggle all high slot modules Key: Toggle All Med slot modules Key: Toggle all low slot modules
I think using more hot keys would improve peoples performance in game, itÆs a lot easier to just mash a button then it is to try and use a menu when youÆre lagging.
I am sure I am missing some and will think of them later but this is a good start, the one for tags is what I think would be the best change.

yes please... multuple orbit ranges would be damn usefull... or assign X modules to this hotkey... (for example, not aLL your high slots, as you may NOt want to use a neutralizer or something) _________________________________________________________ Only once you've lost everything, are you free to do anything.

Edited by: Neena Valdi on 28/01/2008 12:11:08 I highly advice you a G15 Gaming keyboard. So at least you get toggle all/part of all modules in one button hit. Extremely useful in EVE and legal, afaik.
On the other part I totally agree. Also I'd love to see a hotkeys for drones/fighters control.
Heck, there is no reason to not give a hotkey for every single user interface action in this game. Im still wondering why CCP haven't implemented it yet... after so many years this game existed... Of course, such 'useful' things like module overload (which also f*cked up the user interface) have a higher priority... /sigh

They actually did add some keys for controlling drones in trinity. they are not set up by default though. the only one that seems to be lacking is a key to launch drones but i guess it was not really possible considering you can have more drones in your bay than are possible to launch. ---
