Just a PvE question. I have low skills and it is going to be some time before I have the drone and tank skills to run Large Arty on most lvl 4 missions. So I need to kill the warp scramble frigs very fast to I can warp out and back as needed.
Will mounting AC instead of arty be an effective way to do this?
Drive a maelstrom. I noticed that many people like to mount 800 mm AC instead of the arty for certain missions.
Also a minor side question. Are large AC higher DPS then Large arty?

Fitting large auto's wont help with hitting the frigs without webbing them ( A LOT ).
Well , yes actually it will help but not in a really noticeable way, ie your never gonna hit the things. Course you could fit small autos if thats what you mean but im guessing you dont mean that

Dual 650mm autos have better tracking than my Absolutions Heavy Beams. With a 90% web you can pop every single (NPC) frigate that comes within 10km.

Ever thought of smart bombs... Very nice way to clear out the frigs that like to get in close. A tactic I have adopted is jumping in, letting the small frigs get in close and then activating smart bombs... Clears them all out fast, then you can focus on the big guys.

"And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. And on the 8th day god realised Battleships couldn't cope with NPC frigates, and lo! into existance he did bring drones"-Genisis

Ha. Yes I am working on my Drone skills but it will be some time before they are high enough to handle level 4 mission frigs well enough. I have been doing lvl 3 missions in my BC and now in my BS for too long. Just want to try something lvl 4 even if it takes me my whole play session of dancing and running to do them.
With Smart bombs..... won't those kill my drones?

Large AC's can nail frigs on a approach, but once they settle into orbit, you'll need a web or drones. If they haven't started to orbit, you can pop them from 15km+. Below that, you shouldn't have much trouble with a 90% web except on really fast frigs like spider drone II's.

You can get into a Maelstrom pretty quickly and even with sub-par skills you can do L3s and most L4s with a Maelstrom because it has a massive tank.
I would, however, get drone skills up to deal with small ships as the Maelstrom uses the mid slot to tank.
