So, which is better for PvP? Shield extenders or the invulnerability fields?
This would be for an HAC, for reference.

on what ship?
If it's a t2 minmatar ship, go with extenders.
But you really should balance you buffer with resist.

I've found that on most ships, a 50/50 balance between the two results in the best overall shield stats- size vs. recharge vs. resists. On a T2 Caldari, use an EM Hardener before an Invul field. Oh yeah...for reference, the ship would be an Eagle.
My thinking on setup was:
Highs: 4x250mm Railgun II 2xHeavy Missile Launcher II
Mids: Invul Field II Invul Field II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Afterburner II
Lows: Meta 5 Magnetic Field Stabilizer Overdrive II Overdrive II Some kind of reactor so I have enough powergrid >.>
Thoughts on that?

Use EFT to figure out which gives the highest Effective HP.

In the case of the Eagle and most HACs, LSEIIs give a huge HP amount compared to invulns but use alot of powergrid.

LSE II?
Right now EFT is telling me that a shield extender + an invulnerability field is the best effective HP.

I am flying a Myrm solo in level 3 and am fairly rock solid. Now though I am experimenting to learn the feel for different Mods and trying to improove my DPS and such without compromising my Tank in order to speed up mission completions.
My original set up was using x4 type 2 Large Shield Extenders and an AB. Left no room for a resist.
What are your thoughts on taking out one extender for an Invulnerability?
My Shield HP would drop to 11,700 from its current 14,400.

Plug it into EFT, and see what the effective HP/tanked dps numbers come out to be.

My proposed setup:
Highs: 250mm Railgun II 250mm Railgun II 250mm Railgun II 250mm Railgun II Heavy Missile Launcher II Heavy Missile Launcher II
Mids: Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II 10MN Afterburner II Medium Shield Extender II Invulnerability Field II
Lows: Gyrostabilizer/magnetic field stabilizer/etc II Power Diagnostic System II Overdrive Injector System II Overdrive Injector System II
On another note, what's the best kind of ammo to use? Spike gives my railguns a range of over 150km, which is a bit too much, but Javelin is too short. I'm thinking of Caldari Navy Plutonium Charge M. For Missiles, would EM missiles be the best? I feel like shields and armors tend to have the lowest resistance to EM.
Thoughts?

I was hoping for a quick answer as I have never used this tool.

Tsk TSk,
First of your lookin at the eagle there is only 2 setups. Either Sniper Eagle or Beagle (blaster Eagle) this is the only ways to used the Ship..
Sniper Eagle setup ::
Highs.....4x250mm T2 with Spike Ammo (for range) CN Animatter (short range), 2xHeavy or Light Assault launchers
Mids..... 2xSensor Boosters, 2xTracking Computer, 1x mwd
Lows.... 3x Mag stab II (for rail damage), tracking enchaner
Rigs.... Damage Rig and Tracking Speed For Hybrid Guns
Now with that You able sniper from 220km range, there is no need for a tank or shield boosting while sniping
Blaster Eagle (Beagle)
Highs....4xNeutrons Blasters II (null T2 Ammo), 1x Nos or Neut
Mids.... 1x Mwd, 1x Large shield extender, 1x em passive ,1x Invulablity,1x warp distruptor
Lows.... 3x Mag stablizer II,1x damage control II
Rigs..... Em,Thermal,Kin Shield Resistance Rig's
You dont need a shield booster if your resistance are over 80%, which they should be with that setup..This can handle most close range combat with other Ships...
Just remmebr dude either Sniper Eagle which is good for small gangs and support for Bs on gate camps or blaster eagle good for roamin gangs aswell as gate camps
Good luck myfriend

you'd better replace that rigs real quick. Now you get about 20% extra tank with those 3 resists. If you fit 3x extender rigs your tank increases by 52%

Umm thinking about what you said....Mhmm More sheild or higher resistance.. Tough call.... NOT I think higher resistance would be better, if you want to put 3 x extenders rigs on why not do passive tank you nooblet

Eagle only has 2 rig slots.
That Beagle setup isn't half bad - but I think its practically mandatory for a pvp cruiser class ship to fit a web unless you want to make an AF or a cruiser pilot very happy.

Okay, how about:
Eagle- Highs: 250mm Railgun II 250mm Railgun II 250mm Railgun II 250mm Railgun II 'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher 'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher
Mids: 10MN Afterburner II Tracking Computer II Tracking Computer II Sensor Booster II Sensor Booster II
Lows: Tracking Enhancer II Overdrive Injector System II Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II
As for ammo, I would use Spike for range/Javelin for short range, and probably EM missiles in the launchers, maybe Explosive missiles on backup. I would probably put Targeting Range scripts in the Sensor Boosters, maybe Optimal Range scripts in the Tracking Computers.

Gyrostabilizers do absolutely nothing for hybrid weapons. You want Magnetic Field Stabalizers.
Decent looking sniping setup if you have friends keeping your targets at long range, but leave the Javelin ammo at home because if anything gets that close to you you're dead. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |
