The following in quote is from the press release of the CCP-White Wolf merger to be found here.
Originally by: "CCP" Products to be introduced in 2007 will include strategy guides, enhanced collectable card games, role-playing systems, and novels all based on EVE Online.
Frankly, given the amount of work that a pen&paper RPG takes, I did not expect anything to be released in 2007, but is this product still scheduled? I recently watched an interview with the guy that's writing the first Eve novel. But after the Eve CCG both CCP and White Wolf have been awfully silent about any other new Eve-related products.
Is the RPG still in the works? Are there even still plans to make one? If yes, when can we expect any previews or further infos on the book(s)?
Cheers, The Doctor
PS: (Warning, geek stuff ahead) TBH, I would totally love a line of CCP ship miniatures with a tabletop game or a boardgame attached to it - but given how White Wolf got burned in the miniatures market last time they tried, it's fairly unlikely the would commit to such a product. But I think a mod of Ground Zero Game's Full Thrust could work pretty well to emulate space combat.

By that logic Ambulation will never appear given how often they've announced and then delayed it.

I would like to see a EVE version of Battlefleet Gothic or even a RTS based on EVE battles, I will have to get myself Homeworlds 2 and the EVE mod for it.

Edited by: Doc Eldritch on 30/01/2008 00:40:40 I agree on both counts. A Homeworld-kinda game in the Eve Universe would rock. As to BF Gothic - I guess the problem is that given the nature of Games Workshop, I doubt they'd produce a licensed product for CCP. Full Thrust plays on a similar scale and has rules for creating your own ships - which would make it easier to create an Eve mod (hmmm).

If you've played Eve for a while, you wouldn't be surprised if this is true.
But I was really just getting at the fact that the OP shouldn't hold his breath. It'll probably eventually come out, but since those items were promised for 2007 and it's now 2008 it's best for one's sanity to acknowledge that they'll get here when they get here, and not before.

I think Full Thrust would make for a nicer adaption of EVE to tabletop. BFG plays too "straight" with broadsides and forward firing missile tubes. you'd lose the whole 360 degree nature of eve combat unless the rules were modified heavily. FT also has that handy generic nature to it :) -

A little tidbit from an advance copy I ... ahem .. acquired:

Bonus experience should be given if the players take longer than fifteen minutes to accomplish the above tasks.
In all seriousness, I am looking forward to seeing the game. Hope they do it right.

## A grey mist surrounds you. The air is damp with moisture, yet warm. To your front lies a blue UV light, pulsating in shadows around 20 feet away. To your right, left and back is a continuous semi-circular transparent wall. Through the wall you see other pod like cubicles similar to the one your in, yet filled with a clear fluid supporting the tranquil forms of humanity. You cannot see where the room ends.

You are outside the cubicle. The floor is made of a fine grate - cold to he touch. It forms the base of what looks like a corridor stretching to the horizontal from the cubicle exit. The corridor is lit with what look like lines of blue UV light. It smells of chlroine and sterilisation. A cool breeze sweeps down the corridor

It is pitch dark. You are likely to be eaten by a Grue.
An Eve text adventure. That would be ... different. :)

Want to get your hands on the Eve RPG right now?
Print out the entire Backstory-section of this web page, dig out some version of the D20 Game Engine (whatever it's being called this week), and v=ila!
The finished, actual, commercial product will probably have prettier covers and a bunch of pictures (but those will likely be mostly screenshots from the game engine, so you can just take and print your own), but that's in all likelihood what the product will amount to.
Seeing as I just saved you 50-60 USD for the rulebook, plus the agonizing wait for the yet-to-be-actually-announced publication, feel free to send me ISKies to express your gratitude.
Oh, and by leaving the D20 Game Engine out, including only the Backstory-section (plus pictures), you've created GURPS Eve, so send me more ISKies for saving you that money, too.

Meh. D20 sucks. And before I try to use the GURPS vehicle system for a starship game, I think I'll drill holes into my head for fun. :)

Indeed it does. But when RPG developers have to choose between a) making a world and then developing a game system to complement said world, and b) making a world, then sticking it into a vice and twisting it until it fits, say, the D20 system, because system writing is such hard work, which do you think they choose? (incidentally, it's curious to notice that in computer games many companies merely come up with the engine of game, leaving players to fill in the actual content, whereas in pen & paper RPGs many companies merely come up with the content, slapping on the first ready system ( = "engine") they can lay their hands on)

Indeedy. The SM-scene is strong in paper & pen RPGers. I actually made a character for RQ once.

As a hobby I occasionally make poor attempts at designing my own systems, and I have to say that it's incredibly difficult work to make it function properly for all the possible situations and keep it from being exploitable. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |

I actually once played thru a 3-year campaign using GURPS, we had spaceships, combat with said ships, medieval worlds (with our TL12 gear of course, wouldn't let go although GM tried...).
It was actually fun.
But like the locals here say, you need to do it once. If you do it again... well... --

You got that one right. RQ was a freeking nightmare. Took us a whole evening just for a single fight.
