It might help a bit if you were to give some more info... Ratting, missions, pirating, etc... and what sec. of space and class of ships you fly are good starting points.

tbh, the Gallente Destroyer is an adequate salvager for missions, put four salvagers in highs along with four tractors and that'll do the job just fine.

Well then, Catalyst (destroyer) or Exequror (cruiser), and I think there are several threads in this forum discussing the fittings of those ships ...

Edited by: Yargo Metash on 30/01/2008 23:59:26 Every race's destroyer is a capable salvager. Plenty of high slots and a goodly cargo bay is all you need for salvaging unless your doing it DURING combat, in which some semblance of a tank is nice.
Catalyst(Destroyer) Salvager: Highs: 4x Salvager 4x Tractor Beams Mids: AB/MWD, Cap Recharger Lows: PDU for fitting, Overdrives/Cargo extenders/Cap items for taste. Or a decently thick plate for a tank.
Should do you/your corp up through lvl 3 missions, for lvl 4's and above, pssst, upgrade to a BC

I'm real sorry bout this, but what BC would work good for this job? and maybe a setup would be nice too

Gallente don't really have an optimal BC for Salvaging. Lack of 8 high slots for the 4x4 Salvager/Tractor combo.
Could go for a Brutix for the extra Tractor/Salvager, but give up a low. Could go for a Myrmidon for an extra low slot.
As for setups of the two, It's pretty much the same as a destroyers, though you'll want your lows to have more cargohold expanders. Unless you loot while you kill or don't care about it, in which case, the destroyer does just fine.

Well basically what's probably going to happen is my corp mates will do the fighting, someone will do the "healing", and i'll be salvaging.

Definetly want to fit a plate then, something to keep you alive long enough to jump out/until your buddies kill it.
Since Tractors/Salvagers are utility slot items, no ship cannot salvage... Except Freighters/Jump Freighters and shuttles. Since... Well. They can't do anything except move and exist and possibly look cool.

And most likely they'll be doing l3/l4 missions. So i doubt a Destroyer will help. What ship do you suggest for those missons? BC?

Myrmidon. Throw drones at stuff to help your people kill things, have a goodly cargohold, and the option to shield tank, leaving some (or most if you active it) of your lows for cargohold extenders.

I've salvaged level 4s in a destroyer while someone else was killing. Just be careful on missions where many waves of ships spawn, and warp out if you get targeted by anything. Done it on some of the tougher ones like AE, Vengeance, World Collide. Just let them warp in first and take agro, and then jump in and start cleaning up.

Megathron 4/4 salvager/tractor AB, Cap batteries Expanded Cargos/Nanos/Istabs or Tank.

Okay, I don't know much about the catalyst, other than it can toss out some hellacious DPS if you fit it for maximum gankage, because I haven't flown it much but I do know that a properly equipped cormorant *can* survive L4 missions depending on the type of aggro it gets.
I brought one into a level 4 Angel Extraveganza with some friends and at one point I had aggro from 4 or 5 machariels and a couple of frigates and the only ships I had to worry about were the frigates. At one point I was even close to breaking the tank on one of the battleships that aggro'd on me and was barely taking damage from it.
As long as you have a 10mn T2 afterburner on your destroyer and you can run it non-stop or close to it with, or without as you prefer, your salvage gear running you should be just fine providing you don't get hit with a lot of NPC drones or frigates.
As for using battlecruisers to salvage, I recommend the myrmidon.
Without using rigs you might try this:
Highs: 3x Salvager 3x Tractor Beam
Mids: 1x 100mn Afterburner II 4x Cap Recharger II
Lows: 1x Medium Armor Repair II 2x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 1x Damage Control II 2x Capacitor Power Relay II
This setup'll run non-stop, has a tank that'll handle a bit of aggro (and you can replace an EANM and DC for a pair of mission-specific hardeners if desired), will salvage moderately well, and will do decent DPS if you want to help out by telling your drones to guard whoever's tanking for the mission. With my skills (BC5, Combat Drone Op 4, Drone Interfacing 4, Gallente Drone Spec. 2) 5 T2 hammerheads put out about 194 raw DPS which is about what my drake does without drones.
If you cannot fit the T2 items outlined it's no big deal but you'll lose a significant bit of tank for it.
If/when you decide to add rigs you should strongly consider salvage tackle rigs but if you find you have tank issues using a nano pump/accel. pair would be a significant help and still let you fit a salvage tackle. ____________________
