Can i realy alter the course of the game or im limited to change the history itself? Ive a minmatar avatar and have been playing for about 25 days or so. Im a RPG fan (playing about 15 years D&D basically) and would like to know if for example i can free the slaves and make a free slave nation? and i heard that i can buy planets but whats the point, we cant go there, theres nothing we can do in the big stars.
Help would be welcome.

You can start your own 0.0 space alliance and take over Curse... forever altering history by destroying CA

Nope. Basically the story arc is fixed and you won't have any impact on it. You can't do the simplest of things such as freeing slaves. You can RP it, but ultimately it's just an empty jesture. Everybody knows you've either jettisoned them or you have them rotting in your hangar.
The best you can hope for is having an impact on player lore, ie. through piracy, taking on alliances, forming alliances or being a forum warrior.
The EVE story doesn't appear to be dynamic. You've got to dance to their tune. It doesn't mean you can't have fun though. The player created content has far outweighed anything that CCP have made. Events tend to be isolated to one system in empire space and they're sporadic at best. Player created content is tangible, not just a bunch of GMs spawning things at random, and impacts other players more than you think.
Get yourself in a good corp and get involved. |

Mmm... you can't really change the story, because at the moment the story doesn't seem to be very active...
There was that whole 'Stavros for emperor' thing a while back tho!

Sorry to break it to ya man, but CCP don't give a damn about RPers. The whole premise of you being able to affect the world around you is a farse. In fact, the ONLY way you can affect anything, is if you a) use a major exploit b) grief until you become infamous and get banned
There was an attempted chat by Parata Ra to discuss the horrible state EVE's RP stance is and even a CCP rep attended, but I fear that was just a mask to shut the people up by saying "we're looking into it"
Expect results in 5 to never years.

The player lore is far more expansive than the real storyline

The storyline is affected by players in subtle ways. This doesn't have a huge affect on the gameworld, but players do weave themselves into game lore to a limited degree. Doc Brown killing Fatal after the Crielere incident. Could the players have truly protected Crielere? maybe, maybe not. The new Amarr emperor was chosen thru combat trials, with Ecliptical winning the Championship for house Kor-Azor. (This set the new Amarrian political scene.) The jovian admiral Ouria was hunted down by players. etc. These things were going to happen in one way or another, but no one knows the story or just how it will go down until individual players get in there and make it happen.
The actions of players have the greatest visible impact thru the rise and fall of their own alliances and corporations. This is where the real story is.....

Edited by: Deathwing on 27/03/2004 16:21:10 No you cant alter the story
any attempt to do so will result in the infiltration of your ship by CONCORD agents who will plant explosives around your warp core and destroy you at the moment you try to alter the story

I do however smell change in the air, an initiative started not long ago by Randiun MaraL regarding Roleplay and Eve which lead to a good discussion which had the ear of CCP.
The thread is still active here on Eve-I.

Whilst certain things do have some limited impact on the game world it's not really a core part of what goes on. To be fair on CCP in every instance where the game world (as in pure NPC stuff) has meshed or attempted to mesh with the player world (as in corps and alliances) they have had their hands bitten off either by players screaming 'favoritism' or by players screaming 'don't criticise my corp directly or indirectly'.
In my opinion they should really have some objective way of triggering NPC/PC interaction - maybe via standings or something - and after that the interaction is taken over manually by Polaris if they accept some sort of invite via evemail. It would handle the favouritism aspect and also allow for some sort of disclaimer to prepare them for possible negative publicity.

It's like dealing with children basically, you cannot tell them their opinions matter or else they'll cry all the time.
Sure their crying alter things.

The most common way to change the game is to exploit a flaw so much that they nerf the hell out of a profession like piracy >_<
Note: this method may get you banned~ ______________

Small changes have been made due to player activity, like boosts to sentry guns, also some changes to system security ratings due to high pirate activity. (going up due to higher concord presence to counter them). Also the story gets effected by the events, CCP didn't expect everyone to go to the science stations rescue, but they did. So that altered things a bit.
Also you have to take into account the RP elements haven't been finished yet and from one CSM it was mentioned the storytellers were on CCP's back to make better story telling tools. So they are working on it... just I suppose there is allot to do.
So basically right now there isn't allot you can do as an individual to change things unless its in an event, and even then its up to the GM's what happens really.
