At the end of WW I Germany had an impressive fleet of dozens of battleships, hundreds of cruisers and destroyers, and a some would argue many of the best designed ships in the world at that time.
At Skapa Flow the German admiral skuttled the entire navy--dozens of top line ships all sunk on purpose rather.
There had been some talk before 11/11/18 of a giant battle where all the ships would die in battle but it wasn't to be.
OK Here is my point. BOB's cap fleet--hundreds of well equipped carriers, MOMs, dreads, and titans...
Will there be a cataclismic capital ship battle--the last battle so to speak, or will BOB have their own Skapa Flow in some forgot corner of Delve?

Edited by: Louis DelaBlanche on 31/01/2008 11:27:46 I imagine, if & when it comes to it, most of bobs cap/suupercapfleet will simply cyno out to lowsec n either be used when they move somewhere else or dispeerse across the galaxy as & when they part ways.
Epic cataclysmic battles rarely/never happen in EVE, theres never enough at stake to justify them.
edit: & yeah the rl analogies do seem pretty thick on the ground this morning

In this case, the OP couldn't even spell Scapa Flow correctly (with a C, not a K), and has only an extremely vague idea of what happened there. -clp

If they do, then I hope they are marked and set permanently into the system by the Devs.
Would be nice background story for future players to go visit the final resting place of a dead alliance (this is assuming BoB were to do this which they won't - I'm not saying BoBs dead already)

Will probs put the entire cap fleet into a capital ship array then loose sov so it goes offline. Then decide to pop the array to get them out causing the loss of the ships. This is something CORM did a while back

The allies from the first conflict standing on the borders in the north (should be north west but it's close enough) And a former ally in the South letting the hostiles march in.
Their leaders sitting in a bunker somewhere rambling about how the entire world is against them.

Hmm. I do believe that the wounded tiger can make it's way through Fountain and force-march into the old D2 lands. That would totaly destroy the RSF push, as there are no railroad tracks up that way. In there, in the cold and icy north, I am fairly sure BOB can rebuild, and maybee even be able to claim a new station in time.
Back or front? Both ways are fine by me.

German Rear Adm. Ludwig von Reuter gave the command to scuttle the captured German fleet instead of letting the fleet be turned over to the British as prizes of war negotiated at the Treaty of Versailles which was signed just days later. Its considered the last significant event of WW1.

People are trying to make the analogie that BoB will scuttle their fleet as well, instead of being captured by the invading masses.

All of the major fights thus far have been sub-capital fights. The only time I've seen a BoB capital was in QY6 6-6 POS where we bubbled them in their own shields and tried to bump them out for a bit.
There was a carrier playing undock games in PR- also... but I don't think that counts.

Amazingly enough the german high fleet couldn't dock in an npc station, cloak or indeed log out. This is of course why they lost the war as the royal navy had developed all these skills ages before, allong with log-in traps.

for the same reason someone can compare 2 different countries, theyre different in many ways however shaped by the same species and both exist in the same worldly realm.
eve exists in this world and has similarities to other things that have happened in this world. just because they are 2 different things one with real impact and another that is a simulation doesnt change the fact that both are shaped by the same species,...a species that tends to repeat itself.
the second you spend a second in the game, that game has a real life impact on you, and anyone who is in direct contact with you, which in turn has an impact on everyone that has direct contact with those who you have direct contact with.
dont get me wrong, i know the difference between rl and a game, however to say that real life context in a program that is shaped by people in the real life is bad, is just a shielded delusion to keep yourself exited from something you cannot escape,...real life.
oh, and game pixels are for sale and its a multi-billion dollar industry. Sig removed, lacks Eve-related content. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] - Cortes |

Because many fancy themselves as history majors and betray how little they understand or know it. Also, they tend to forget that this ain't real and that BoB and their allies are just other gamers who play this game for kicks like the rest of us do.
This no great crusade, nobody is really evil, and "IF" they lose, which is not a done deal by far, there is be another set of "bad guys" to deal with and the whole damn thing starts over again.

Wow, y'all really don't know your history. In World War I, it was where the High Seas Fleet, which had sailed there under flag of truce while the armistice negotiations were underway, scuttled rather than surrender. The crews had basically mutinied, because of conditions in the fleet as well as the nascent socialist revolution back home. The British wanted to open fire on the sinking ships because they considered the self destruction a hostile act.
In World War II, early in the war, Gunther Prien sailed his U-Boat in to Scapa Flow under the noses of the british fleet, put enough torpedoes in to the Royal Oak to sink her, and sailed right back out. Balls the size of grapefruit, had Gunther.
Scapa Flow, nothing much happened there. Sheesh.

After loosing credit when you are speaking about mind control, territory superiority, you will loose any credibility for all your "our k/d ratio..." stuff.

I'm reminded of the British submarine commander who operated in the black sea in WW1. He launched his torps at ships but if the missed he would swim out through the torpedo tubes grab the torp and swim back with it load it back onboard and try it again with a different ship. only when he was finally out of ammo would he sail home.
Nothing to do with anything in eve, but its still a great story. Much like scapa flow I guess. And the Titanic.

I hath spoke!

ps
I think you want to use Juttland over a single UBoat attack as an example.
All true....but it is still possible to draw apt comparisons between in-game occurances and events in real-world history. Motivations and consequences are likely to be vastly different for obvious reasons, but many of the same forces will drive both. It's still humanity pulling the strings and pressing the buttons in either case.
