In other online games when the devs change a class or a feature of the game very drastically they give all the affected people a chance to redo their character. Many of them call it a repec.
As eve has changed many of my corp mates/friends have been affected by changes in sentry gun placement/range as well as security status changes of our hangouts. I believe it would be fair to either give these affected people a chance to change their standings in a positive way.
As it stands now you have many people who cannot do anything close to pirateing in empire. That is fine that is how ccp wants it. No PvP in empire besides corp wars. Fair enough thats what they want and they own the game. But that sticks many of my corp mates to live the rest of their gaming lives in 0.0. I know they chose the path of a pirate and beleive me they still want to PvP. But i beleive that the life they chose has been drastically changed and it is time for them to have their respec.
I know you half-baked angery carebears will flame this hardcore cause you are mad their you died to some pirate here or there but if you look at it objectively then you will see the point. Those people chose something and it has changed. Now they are placed in a crappy spot with no way to leave.

I look at it more as the police forces responding to an outright rebellion.
Armed groups had seized control of huge areas of space, making travel within the empire insanely dangerous. Oddly they responded to stamp out the pirate threat, which is exactly what powers do to known pirate threats.
A good anology would be to pop to a really rough area in America where there is a lot of violent crime (low sec, but still empire). In this area I suggest you imagine what would happen if you blocked the main road through it and slaughtered everyone traveling along it. How long before the police, followed by the army turned up?
Pirates became too big a navigation hazard, and now have a slightly harder time (camping style piracy is still too easy in empire). To be fair this should be expected.
ps deciding that anyone who disagrees with you is a half-baked angry carebear is a silly statement that is going to get people to flame you.

Actually I think tougher regulations should be imposed on pirate corps and not on the individual pirates themselves, it annoys the hell out of me when i see pirates members of m0o, c0w, Corp1 to name but afew flying through 1.0 sectors like Luminaire and Yulai, these people should be dealt with due to their associations with these corps, not be allowed free passage just because their personal security status is kept in the safe zone between -4.9 and -5.1.
Pirates allready have a huge advantage as they can use alts (another bane on this game) to buy stuff in empire space, ship it to a safe sector and make an exchange. You got your sec rating this low, made your bed so to speak, so lie in it. I can think of alot of ways you can make use of empire space without resorting to the lame mehod of using Alts, how about making associations with 'law abiding' corps, instead of fragging everyone you see. I think alot of pirates need roleplaying classes, 80% of pirates i have met are nothing but lame FPS players who get kicks out of ganking newbies, if they bothered to initiate dialogue, play with any sort of class or style, people wouldnt have such an issue with them. I hope the red corsairs are still going strong they had it, no other pirate I ever met managed to come close.

The issue here is the go/no-go barrier that exists between 0.4 and 0.5 systems. Like many other areas of EVE (NPC spawns is a good example) the secutiry system is hardly "scalable" and any response is either non-existant or full-force (insta-death).
What is needed is for individual/corporation standings with CONCORD to affect the odds that CONCORD will come to the aid of a victim. One COULD envision a system that took into account the security rating of the system, the standing of the "victim" with CONCORD and the standing of the "agressor" woith CONCORD. Thus if a person with a negative standing with CONCORD was attacked the chances of nearby CONCORD officers coming to his aid would be less than if he had a positive standing.
The level of the response would take into account the system's sec. rating, the rating of the agressor (the more neg. the for forcefull the response is likely to be), and the rating of the victim.
Likewhise the various NPC-faction-fleets would react in a similar way.
This would in effect allow for faction wars, where disputed areas become warzones, but only for those who have chosen to align themselves. Characters who have managed to stay friendly with most factions will be able to take their goods to most systems.
For this to work the "variable response" of NPC's would have to protect people from griefers while allowing for the 0.4 systems and below to be more interesting.
The rediculous system we have now leaves 0.1 - 0.4 systems only dangerous in terms of what's in the belts and near planet and moons, while travel is still safe due to the range and numbers of sentry guns near gates. So in terms of player versus player interaction, we're left with a system that has little or no "gradient" but rather a barrier that forms right where 0.0 space meets "empire space". (I am sure everyone who does PvP will recognise this)
I am sorry for ranting like this, but once I get started I usually spout ideas like this -- "I am an expert in not caring. The trick is to stop giving a rat's ass about anyone else and start thinking about what YOU want, what YOU diserve, what the world ows YOU!" - Bender |

I would like a chance for this as well. When I created my character, I maxed out my Willpower to get ahead on gunnery skills. Three or so days after I started playing, willpower was set to a secondary attribute to gunnery.
My willpower to start was 17, and my perception 7. HUGE DIFFERENCE in skill training times.

Pirates chose to be pirates, so they should live with that decision like it or not. When i was a noob i was killed a few times by m0o players etc in gangs with much bigger ships. I feel absoloutly no sorry for them that they cannot travel in empire space

Is there a way for the pirates to change their path, without haveing to delete their character? I think there should be a way, but it should be very long, and very tough.
In the old pirate days the governments offered amnesties to pirates, and many accepted them. Bu in order for a Eve pirate to get an amnesty they would have to do something really good for it, like turning in there fellow pirates or something.
That would make the life of the pirate even more hazardous and unsecure as the paranoia would always linger...

Those half-baked angry care-bears need to far outnumber pirates in the game, just as antelopes far outnumber the lions that prey on them in rl. Care-bears need to prosper in EVE, if pirates have it too easy the care-bears will quit, pirating will cease to exist and EVE will not have enough subscribers to survive.
The more carebears there are, the more pirates they can support, and the more subscribers CCP have. Its quite simple really.

Would the repec require a refund of all those illgotten gains that the pirates lifestyle brought? If not live with your choices.

I am absolutely sure those people i am thinking about would. LOL of the billion+ i have in my wallet plus all that i have spent on ships and modules far less than 10% of it ever came from pirateing............. It is absolutely not profitable.

If you intimidated the competition to move out of your way I'd say that's gains through piracy also.
