my partner and i are having a baby. hurrah!
we already know it's a little boy. if it was a girl we'd already decided to call it Eve (YA RLY) but that's rather gone out the window now taking with it my dreams of free stuff off CCP. nevermind. i bought him a rather awesome skull and crossbones babygro to make up for it.
Now we need to think up equally awesome names for the little chap. baby name books are all well and good, but there weren't many nice names that were also slightly unusual without being stupid (boys seem to get the short end of the stick with this, there are loads more great girls names). Any suggestions?
also it's probably worth mentioning that we're white & english, so whilst european names are all cool, we're unlikely to call him Zhao Liu. and no, that isn't racist, it's just how it goes.
NOTE: everybody, and i do mean everybody, we've asked so far has suggested their own name. don't do it. [IMAGE REMOVED] |

Depends what the parents names are to be honest, my family has a tradition of Celtic names so it all goes like that.
I would say Nicholas, nice name and you can shorten it to Nick if he doesn't like it a few years down the line.

I got named after my Dads favourite film 'Shane'. Pretty crap film imho but he does shoot up all the baddies at the end in a fairly slick cowboy-esque manner.
Anyway follwoing the same method, and looking at a few current movies you should call your son 'Sweeney Todd', 'Mr Magorium', 'Alvin' or possibly 'Cloverfield'.

Edited by: Istvaan Shogaatsu on 01/02/2008 16:38:16 Now listen up, because this is important. The name you give a kid determines what sort of adult it grows into. If you name your son Tyler or Geoffrey, he will be an absolute cretin. Have you ever met a Tyler who wasn't an idiot? Didn't think so.
You gotta give him a badass manly name, since it's a boy. Something that conjures up thoughts of Russian mobsters or Roman emperors. I like Victor. Spell it with a k for extra eastern european badassedness. Other good names to consider are Octavian, Caesar, Ivan, Constantine, and Chainsawburn Shotgunstein.

Actually my friends and I talked this over at a pub once (so keep in mind lots of beer was involved). We were thinking of names for boys that would make them a badass and we concluded you do not name them something like "Butch". You name them something like Keena or Tracey (yeah it is a boys name too). They will get their asses kicked with a name like that growing up they can't help but become a tough mofo.
Don't believe me? Try Keena Turner...a 6'2", 210 pound former linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers.

Arron Ravenwood [Your Last Name]
Sounds good to me ...
And no - it isn't actually MY name ... just this character's.
There's a German name ... which I don't remember ... but the literal meaning of the name is supposed to be something like Head Hacker (and having nothing to do with computers ...) but rather in the sense of hacking heads off ... has the word kopf (head) in it but I couldn't find it with Google ... I don't think Kopfmacher is it ...
*shrug*
If you could figure out what the actual name was ... or use some other foreign name that had a really cool meaning like that ... it would have certain advantages over naming the kid D3@+h 5+@1k3r or something like that ... in that you might just get it past the wife ...
Of course ... she'd kill you later when she found out ...

Names are tricky, maybe one that gives some flexibility will help? Like Alexander - you can sign things Alec, Alex, Andy, Lex, Sandy etc. Or Johnathan - Joe, John, Nathan, etc. That way, he doesn't need to open envelopes to find out if it's junk mail. Also useful to tell him he's in trouble. Use full name for this.
