I just formatted/reinstalled everything only changing my video card drivers over to the new ATI catalyst drivers as I have an ATI radeon 9000 pro (128mb ddr). Now when I try to open eve (after downloading and installing) I come up with an error about how my video card drivers stopped responding after attempting to switch modes or some nonsense. Anyways I was wondering if anyone else has had any problems with the new catalyst drivers or if its just me. =(

there are lots of problems coming up with the new cat 4.3 drivers. If you dig around or search you'll see that this has come up a lot. i'd use the driver removal tool and load one of the reccomended driver sets(3.9 or 4.1).

I have had exactly the same problem. New drivers my FPS's work great - Eve does what youve described. Old drivers Eve works fine but glitches in the FPS. ATI Radeon 9200 bte.

I have no problems with ATI 9700 non-pro and Cat 4.3 drivers with eve. Maybe is an issue with ATI 8500-based cards such as the 9000/9200 series. Those cards aren't DX9 capable cards so they use software to do any functions that are DX9. Not that EVE is inhearently DX9 but it might do some sort of detection routine that those cards do not like. -----

Just got the ATI Radeon 9000 card. I called ATI and it is DX 9.0b compatible, it's the Catalyst drivers that are a problem with the latest eve patch. Just remove the drivers and load an older set. The eve support page tells you which ones to use.
I collect ships. Can I have yours? |

Edited by: Frankku on 30/03/2004 07:58:03 I have Radeon 9700pro and i have no problems with Catalyst 4.3 and eve. This issue has been up before, and almost all who have Radeon 9700 or better has no problems with these new drivers. Let's hope that those coming 4.4 drivers fixes all the problems people are having.
Maybe it could help to inform ATI about these driver problems... Here's a link to reporting page: ATI driver feedback --- Your Miner II perfectly strikes Veldspar, wrecking for 1620 ore. |

Problem is that the 9000 isn't DX9.0b capable... its mearly compatible. Its basically a lower end 8500 ( yeah lower end even tho its newer ) so its on par with a Geforece 3 TI 200 at best. While its a nice card... seems the 4.3 drivers and eve don't play well with 8500 based cards. Use 3.7/8/9 as this will yeild about the same performance in all games on your card. I had a radeon ddr running stable with 3.7 and dx 9.0b on an old slot A athlon. -------------------- The Nest

ATi radeon 9000 pro user here, I had to litterally go back to the origional drivers in order to get eve to even display anything correctly.
Ive tried all the updated drivers offered by ati, including beta drivers...
