Its quite weird. I don't know why anyone would go to the trouble to install it.

I use it on my PC still and it's fine. I disable tabs though since I prefer just having multiple windows, so the layout is more like IE 6. It works fine and I haven't had a reason to change it.
I use FF on my laptop though, clearing history + cookies + temp files every time it closes which imo is a nice function for shared comps as it allows security+useability at the same time, something IE struggles with

Firefox all the way, for me. Only use IE (6, I think) at work, where I have no control.
With the add-on "IE Tab", I can even open IE-only web pages in FF no trouble. With crappy IE security of course, but at least I can browse them in the comfort of my customised FF browser. ------

i currently have firefox 2, firefox 1.5, ie 5.5, ie6, ie7, opera, safari beta installed on my PC, but i make websites as part of my job so it's necessity rather than any particular browser fetish.
opera : fast. some frankly upsetting rendering quirks, which evangelists inist are features.
ie 5.5 : just... no.
ie 6 : a bit rubbish. several rendering issues, mysterious element placement and doctype hilarity. not secure.
ie 7 : MUCH better. anti-aliasing makes my eyes go squiffy after a while, but it relatively stable.
firefox 2 : bit unstable. lots of addons which i couldn't live without, eats memory and with more than half a dozen tabs active.
safari beta : lightning quick. rendering seems to be pretty reasonable. it's a beta, but a beta port of a well established app so it's got a bit of pedigree behind it. don't do much beyond check layout and DOM-y javascript in this though. [IMAGE REMOVED] |

Edited by: ISD Serathu Ashk on 04/02/2008 02:19:29 I use FF as my main browser on my home PC and laptop as a personal preference thing - started before IE7 came out and no real desire to move back given the extra functionality I make use of. I am what you would describe as a power user though.
Having said that, I use IE7 regularly as well since I deal with an awful lot of sites/apps that require the vertical integration between browser, OS and productivity suite (Office) such as Outlook Web Access, SharePoint, WSUS and so on. I also use IE7 heavily in client environments because of two words: Group Policy.
I don't trust the opinion of anyone who says that one is exclusively better than the other as they each have their strong points in different situations.
Long story short: horses.... courses...

No.
I've heard of compatibility problems involving it and several web services my school uses, so I'll be sticking with Firefox or (when absolutely necessary) IE6. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |

Main used browser : Opera 9.23 (I manually open it each time) Default browser : 7.0.5730.11 (auto-opens on any link clicks from outside Opera) Between the two of them, it's smooth sailing wherever I choose to go.

Firefox all the way. I do, however, keep a copy of IE5 on hand should I find some particularly stupid website that won't open in firefox.

it's the default browser at work, web dev needs to work on IE first then FF etc, but it's not that nice.
it does have "plugins" or something similar to FF addons I think, but I like FF, I dont really have any intention of using IE instead if I have the option

This...
7 seems to be especially full of bugs. Its actually better to use 6. However FF is a much better browser. So is Opera. _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. I use IE7 and I like it. It does what I want it to do when I want it to do it. It can be customised to suit your needs etc. I have used FF and tbh, I didnt like it all that much.

Speaking as a Webdesigner...
Internet Explorer and all programs associated with it should be banned and prohibited immedeately. And all the people using is should be sterilized! Nah, just joking. You should just do that to the people who dare to say that IE might actually be better than Safari / FF/ Opera...
A site i spend 2 weeks on designing takes me another 2 weeks to make itt compatible for IE.. see here
Use Firefox or opera people, it's better for your health. and mine.

The overwhelming majority of customers that do commerce through my online business use IE 6 & 7.
It just makes sense to keep the site designed with IE as a priority... and as such, using IE browsers for myself.

exactly. browser XYZ might be much better, but at the end of the day the whole point of e-commerce is making your product/service readily available to lots of people.
by all means write with standards compliance and WAI standards and any other **** you like in mind, but if you neat code doesn't work on everybody's browser you're doing it wrong. Signature removed. Too large and flashing signatures are not really permitted. Navigator |
