I have access to Tech2 Drones now. Medium Ones anyway, but I am looking at the Damage factor in the attributes and it is the same as Tech1. The shield and armor is increased a bit, but for all the hype I have heard from people talking about how much better they are I realy would like to know exactly how so and why they are?

T2 drones are faster, hardier, and more powerful than their T1 counterparts. Especially when concerning drones, you want to squeeze every possible point of damage out of them as you can.
You'll see the best improvement when you switch from T1 to T2 heavy attack drones. They'll chew through a battleship rat in no time.

Drone stats do not show your skills applied. You have to do the calculations yourself.. trust me.. tech II drones are much better than tech I

I see that each Races Drone Specialization gives an additional 2% per level.
That is still not a lot and unless you have everything else maxed out including your Ship Skill level for a Myrm/Domi and your Drone Interfacing Skill for all drones which in effect are just as good increasing damage on tech1 Drones as they are Tech2 making both do the same damage for the most part.
Then I am looking at the price they charge for Hammerhead 2's @ a million a pop and thinking about how many drones you lose in the normal course of play. Not a lot, but at a million a pop it adds up.
While I am at it can someone tell me how hard it is research your own BP's these Tech2 drones.

Alright I caught it.
The damage multipliers are different.
1.6 for type1 and 1.92 for type2
I suppose that will make a big difference?

also TRACKING, VELOCITY, and ORBIT VELOCITY as well as Shield, Armor, and Hull HP increase is significant.
They sure are expensive though.

Spend some time training Drone Durability before using them, I would recommend at least to level 3. That way they aren't so expensive, because they don't pop on you. Definitely the move up to T2's is worth it though, don't worry.

drone hp doesn't matter cause once they start taking damage you just have to hope you kill everything in time. When you recall them their sig radius quintuples and take damage so fast that they usually die on the way back.
Just use t1 for missions as they have funny spawn timing that just screws up aggro and you lose your super expensive drones.

When you add in the damage bonus for the racial drone skills most certainly. BLUE vs RED The Only Good Red Is A Dead Red |

No offense meant, but you either aren't managing your drones properly then, or don't have the right skills to back them up. They're like any other weapons system, you need to have the supporting skills for maximum benefits.

NO. One of the best skill sets you can have in-game, tbh.

The base damage is the same, but the Damage Multiplier is higher than t1
Also note that Thermal drones have a much higher multiplier and are pretty much your main killing machine.
T2 drone skills also add more to this damage multiplier.
They are probably the BEST mid sized t2 weapon for training time vs. performance, they are simply amazing compared to t1 in every way.
You wont regret it

I guess I did right then as I am noob and it is the very first skill set I am going all out for.
Speeding up that level 3 mission grind time and prep up for my Domi for level 4 missions.
Heck I even invested the time to go and buy way more than the x1 skill book I needed for Gallente Drones in a far off corner of the Galaxy so I could in effect have them all for free after making a profit.
Making over a million a pop on selling them.
I think I will go back and buy the rest of em. Already sold three of em and I just bought them 2 hours ago.
I did find though that using mission specific drones for the right damage makes a noticable difference. So I am training to level 2 specialization in all 4 races.
I suspect I am doing the right thing?

Make sure you get your support skills to 4--drone navigation, drone durability, combat drone operation, drone sharpshooting, etc.
And as early as practical think about getting Drone Interfacing to V. If you don't have it at 4 now, get it there.
edit*
Yes, Hammerhead 2's are incredibly expensive. This is because they do thermal damage and have the best damage modifier for medium drones.
Unless you're pvping, don't bother using them. Train the Caldari spec so you can use Vespa 2s and train the Minmatar spec so you can use Valk 2s. They are much, much cheaper and the Vespas are particularly useful for missions.
Cheers,

5 million Skillpoints in drones, and I'll have about 7 million before I finally consider myself 'done' with drones. No, I don't regret the specialization at all, but it'll be nice to actually get myself a second weaponry system eventually. Right now though, it's all about the little guys. 5x Ogre IIs simply eat through everything pretty damn fast. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. OMG!!! Did I bite off more than I could chew?
I barely have 2 million SP altogether and only 500K+ in drones so far.
Thanks for all the advice all you peoples...

No. You're not biting off more than you can chew. I'm simply a bit insane, and old enough to specialize without gimping everything else too badly. If I shifted about 3 million of those points into guns or something, I'd probably be a much more well-rounded pilot. But I wouldn't have Ogre IIs to sic on people, then, now would I?
Trust me, T2 Lights/Mediums and Interfacing/Navigation/Sharpshooting to IV is a great investment in SP, and will pay off when you realize BS turrets can't track that annoying little frigate that's scrambling you. But Warriors can. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

Nope, IMO you're going the right route. For about 1M SP you can be reasonably competent in tech2 light and medium drones - FAR less SP than would be required for any other T2 weapon.
Drones have their limitations, to be sure, but they also have huge advantages too.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |
