well skilled it can reach over 1k dps without damage mods and tank about the same. but it seems noone uses them

Yes it needs quite a lot of skills tho...with some faction stuff i fit 4x425mm AC2 + 4x siege T2 and get ~1000 dps with my skills (ETF) but I have crappy drone skills so maxed will be ~1150 dps. That includes basic tank and 2 dmg mods. So I'd say if u got skillz then it's no.1 choice, but still people fly crap like temp and mael =)

Yes, but I doubt anyone uses mothership that often so there is no need to compare those two.

ECM Drake.
7 x heavy launchers 1 x 10mn mwd, 4 x racial jammers of your choice, 1 x large shield extender 3 x signature distortion amplifiers, 1 x damage control
5 x light ecm drones (or warriors)
Preferably all tech 2, except the launchers (not enough cpu, and the firepower is not important anyway). I get around 6.5 jamming strength on racial jammers with my skills. I think it's 7 with maxed skills.
I don't have any idea why you would do this other than for the WTF?! factor. . .

Mostly because no one ever primaries a Drake. Blackbird may jam better, but it's also usually the first ship targeted, so it may not get a chance to jam at all. The Drake, however, would almost certainly get at least one good cycle off before being noticed.

why not a raven then? you may get better 'tank', beter 'damage', better 'ecm strng', better target range. And more important, the same WTF factor with small chance to be primaried. Pan |

Two things. First, cost. A Raven does cost a good bit more than a Drake. Second, Ravens are called primary from time to time. Especially now, when Torp Ravens are actually a threat. The whole point of using a Drake, in my opinion, for this job is that since a Drake is all tank and no gank, it's a very low priority target. A Raven, on the other hand, can pump out a very large amount of damage, and attracts more attention than a Drake. If only because it's a larger, more expensive target, and looks better on a killboard.

AC's > Blaster on a Velator. The drones put down the pwn while the 200mm plate keeps you alive a bit longer - you can fit the 200mm plate because of AC's low pg usage. Some range (think barrage) is nice on a slow ship and you can keep your WD running for much longer with AC's which is crucial for ransoming the pod.

Funnily enough Drake is the ship I most often encounter, and they always fail to impress me. I'd nominate it for the most overrated ship, actually. Granted, an ECM fit might be a good surprise in a gang, but the surprise is short lived because after it jams something it'll get primaried anyway.
While not the most underrated, Nighthawk is a lot better than a lot of people seem to think. Blaster Vulture is also pretty underrated, aswell as Rail Astarte. --- CEO

Most Drakes that I meet fail to impress me also, mainly because they're stupidly overtanked useless-brick PVE fits, or just hilariously badly fit. And that's why it's an underrated ship.

Well, the Drake has the cpu for it, and as it says in the Drake's description: "the inclusion of sufficient CPU capabilities for decent electronic warfare goes without saying."
It jams very well for a non-bonused ship, and yeah it's a surprise. In a larger battle they'll probably never even notice what you're doing. At the same time, you're adding a bit of mid-range dps to the fight and you still have a little bit of a buffer.

I guess you have a point. A standard T2 fit Myrmidon still outperforms a well fitted drake, though, so their potential to surprise isn't that great. This is what I get out of my drake when I try and take more damage out of it, it falls 200 DPS short of my Myrmi while tanking 200 DPS more with crystals (and I'd guess pretty much the same without them). And it doesn't have propulsion or a web, so it's not as good for solo and nigh unusable in 0.0. Now admittedly missiles are good for their own reasons, but it fails to make up for the difference really. If you have a setup that brings Drake on par, though, I'd be interested in seeing it. --- CEO
