... to train skills.
While I fully apreciate the way that skills train constantly so that you get better even when not playing (I especially appreciate it cause my life is fairly busy with school)
But, sometimes there is a saturday that I get off and I think that it would be cool to have an active way to increase your skills.
Purhaps making it so that when you kill a ship, depending on what kind of ship it was you got skillpoints for whatever skill your training. Like a frigate is worth maybe like 20 skill points (like 10 second worth of skill training) while a battleship is something more equivolent of say 10 minutes worth of skill training. (or 20 minutes or whatever is right)
I think it would be great because I'd love to be able to train faster or something
What do you think?

Edited by: Ursula LeGuinn on 03/02/2008 22:50:03 It's been a hurry up and wait system for around four years now.
That isn't going to change.
That being said, if you can make enough money in-game (or trade for GTCs), you can simply buy a character from someone else. ________________

This suggestion is fail. This is not WoW (first time I got to say that), you don't kill things, level up, kill more things. Many people never even kill a rat. Other then that gaping flaw one major point of the system is it makes it impossible to power level, the amount of time you play has no bearing on how skilled your character is. So someone who has no life wont automatically be better then my 30 year old brother who has a wife and two kids. ------------------------------------------------- Attention Devs, for every isk you send me one member of your family will be returned safely.

damn lol, i didn't know some people were so touchy about it.
I'm just saying, maybe something, but nothing too drastic because I too agree that the system is great for people who havn't the time to play all the time, but on those saturdays i get off it just feels like i'll never catch the people who have an account ahead of mine regardless of my skill or ability to play the game simply because they played sooner.

Simple answer... NO.
This kind of idea has been brought up waaaaay to many times. It is far to open for exploitation. The other thing I find with these kinds of ideas, is it opens up the door for "Power Leveling" services to be offered. God know we already have far to may farmers/isk sellers in game as it is. *** "Some would call me a Demon. Others, a Vampire. This is both good and bad. You wont ever catch up in SP< but you will eventually be good enough to fight a vet, since your sp number has no direct involvment to how good your ship is, it's the modules you use regardless.
The reason power leveling is wrong is because these very vets don't want newer players passing them up because they have no life. Were you hear when they introduced "Start with 800k sp" in Kali or so? Yeah.

Probably touchy because it has been brought up so many times
But then again, this system has been working fine for years now, just a queue would be nice
As for not catching up to older people, that is off course true. But if you specialize, you can be better at that specific thing then the older player. Though you will never be as versatile. But older players do have to have an advantage _

Every other mmorpg has a grind to level up or raise skills or whatever that mmos character advancement model is. EVERY ONE! This is the ONE SINGLE MMO that does not do that, that does NOT make you feel guilty for taking a break because you are NOT losing time and you will NOT arrive at your goal slower because you are unable to rough it out and pull and all nighter.
Many people play this game specifically for that reason, or for a combination of reasons wherein said reason is one of the primary factors.
And here you are wanting to change that.
You could pick any other game if you wanted to grind. But instead you feel the need to change this one.
If you do not understand how adding even a 5% bonus to SP for being active would not totally change the way the game is played, you do not understand how MMOs effect people, or how people play MMOs.

Yep.
How to farm SP if this is implemented:
1. Find ship with highest number of slots 2. Fill ship with as divers equipment possible while maintaining cap stability 3. Outfit ship with 1 weapon of each type 4. Turn on all modules 5. Open fire on asteroid 6. Leave 7. Repeat steps 1-6 after downtime
It would not be good. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |

I think this might make sense.
In most MMO's, they have a level system that you just described. Regardless of the game's theme, story, setup, what-have-you, it inevitably devolves into being about earning levels.
In EVE, the focus is taken away from leveling, and placed firmly into the universe that is created for us; like unwrapping a Christmas present.

A common misconception. But consider that skills in EvE are limited to level 5. Once you have level 5 in a skill, you're as good as anyone else, even if he has 50x as many SP. If you are disciplined about specialising, your character will be as effective as anyone in your speciality. Past a certain point, older characters can only do MORE things rather than do them better.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |
