I've only been playing for 4 days and I've been using a quickly learned mining setup. I've been using an Imicus to mine with double lasers and an Iteron to carry the mined ore back to station. Is there any faster way to mine in volume?

Go for the mining barges (second one is decent, third one takes a long time to train for but it's worth it), then exhumers (once you have all you need for the 3rd barge, the skills needed are quickly trained, you just need a bit of cash).

There is actually a be all end all resource of information for mining called "The Complete Miner's Guide" by Halada. I know you can download it in PDF format, and you can find it pasted into a wiki http://eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=The_Complete_Miner's_Guide_by_Halada
And there are much faster ways to mine in volume. Basically, the steps are:
1) Train Caldari Frigate while mining. 2) Train Caldari Cruiser - then fly an Osprey 3) Train Mining - 5 (t2 miners are totally worth it) 4) Train for mining barges (retriever) 5) Train Strip Miners 6) Max out your mining skills (astrometrics, mining barge operation) 7) Train skills to use mining crystals and t2 strip miners. 8) Fly a covetor and save for a Hulk 9) Buy and fit a hulk 10) Invest in stupidly expenive end state upgrades (implants and what have you, mining drone 2's etc)
Compared to what you likely mine these days, the difference is astronomical. My hulk, even with fairly weak mining skills (for someone who can fly a hulk mind you) I net more than 1400 m^3 of ore per minute, and that number can easily be pushed to the vicinity of 2000 m^3 (with implants, link warfare mods and what have you)

For mining in a frigate, use the Navitas. The Navitas has a bonus to mining yield. The Imicus is better suited to other tasks and does NOT get a mining bonus. (All races have a frigate with a mining bonus. It's also usually the cheapest frig one can buy)
For mining cruisers, the first tier for all but Gallente get a mining bonus. For the Gallente, the Vexor would most likely be best, although the Exqueror does get a cargohold bonus.
When going for a mining barge, SKIP THE PROCURER. Mining cruisers, and even some mining frigs can outmine the Procurer. Go for the Retriever instead to start with. Continue on until you're ready for the Covetor, or wait a day longer and get a Hulk. (or use the increased revenue from the Covetor to buy that first Hulk) _______________________________

Impossible, you can only mine a max of lasers * cargobay/min.
And even then: 60 * 1.25*1.25*8 *1.09^5 (assuming a rack of t2 MLU) = 1154 m¦/min. Or it could be the noob mistake, thinking that 9k units of veldspar equals 9000 m¦ ---

You might want to recalculate that yield, you will find it to be at least three times lower.
