Hi, been playing for 2 days. All was going fine but for the last hour or so we have had lag (stopped) and a re-boot, and since re-boot, lag (stopped) or continual 'Entering Space' message.
I'm not being impatient but thought I would ask if this was the norm in Eve cos if it is I can't see any point in converting the trial account into a $$$ account.
I'm hoping you will all shout back saying this is a one off or happens very rarely.
Here is hoping...

I would suggest you quit if you can't deal with occasional problems like this. I would suggest a single player game, or another online game with far less people per server.
CCP is determined to pack everyone onto one server, so I forsee Sunday's being like this for a while...

Im having no problem with logging in or lag. Is your computer Eve compatible? Do you have DirectX 9.0b? If the answer of these are negative, then you know what to do
clagnuts> im drunk just come back from pirates night in spain , wtf i thought it was some eve guys getting together for a drink , turned out to be a feken real pirates show , doh |

Usually it only happens on patch days. I guess the Devs team is having a QuafeUltra party next to the server node today ;)

There is generally a bit of lag after a reboot -- but seeing as this is a Sunday and there's particularly high server load, everyone's trying to relog (and then retrying and reretrying) is keeping the load rather high. This is the worst I've seen it in a while, though it does seem to also be a problem during patch days.
Oh -- and generally, the past couple of weeks, Eve's had a lot higher load, so they may be in the process of expanding the server infrastructure. We'd have to ask the devs on that front, though..

As being a new player I'm assuming you are in a high sec sector which a few still seemed a bit messed up. My main char was travelling through the highways when it got stuck and after the reboot that char still seems to be stuck. My alts are in low space and I have no problem logging them on so you might want to give ccp some time to sort the prob out.

Stay.
The server cluster has never experienced these kinds of loads, what with the infulx of new players from trials and EnB. It will take them some time to work out the load balancing, but i'm sure it will get done.
It's much better during the week. Lots more tend to log in on sundays though..

Well before the current build version of this game (Castor) this was a semi common occurance. But scince casters release(in December of 2003) things have been pretty very smooth. Its only been for the last 2 sundays that things have seemed to gone nuts again. This might have to do with the massive influx of new players or what have you, but it should be cleared up soon. All I can say really is hold on, and dont get too discouraged by a bit of lag.

In the same boat, on day 4 of my trial...I absolutely love this game...when it works, that is. I am starting to dread "Tuning in to subspace" because so frequently it just sits there indefinitely.
Everything about EVE kicks ass, except for the connectivity. I understand that this is not normal, but is CCP going to do something about it? There is an obvious need for increased server capacity and/or bandwidth. There has been serious lag every day and night that I've been playing so far (not constantly, but still enough to be really irritating), although today is definitely the worst.
In all honesty I'll probably subscribe even if this continues, because I haven't been this into an online game since EverQuest was first released. But I'd really feel better if there was some official statement from CCP on the connectivity issues.

The last three weeks, it's been every Sunday night, every Monday night, and whenever they have a patch.
Whether or not you call that "very rarely" is up to you ... I'm hopeful that sooner or later, they'll wake up to the fact they need to solve this problem.
Meanwhile, EVE's a brilliant game when you can play it, but you can't play it on sunday or monday nights.

Thanks for the replies. I guess it's time to sign off and come back another day.
I kinda feel sorry for CCP, it seems a great game and they have done a big promotion, attracted loads of new players and they simply can't cope. Either they have an unforseen problem which is a bummer or somebody serioulsy underestimated their capabilies to support so many users.
Regardless of which, from what you lot have said they will probably get it resolved, just hope it's before my 10 days run out!!
Cheers

Well, i just say, stick to your ten days, and try to enjoy the game. Its pointless to decide after two days of playing it. Plus its not wise to make decisions abt a game based on one bad day. After the ten days, you'll have a better idea abt what you can except from the game. ------------- This post is nothing more than my personal opinion. For you, it was, but for umpteen thousand others, it wasn't.
Sadly, it still isn't.

Definetly persist. Seems like lag/stuck issues crop-up every now and then.. less here than other online multi-games.

Definitely Stay!
The lag and downtime recently is not the norm. Might be a problem with the actual servers rather than the actual game itself :P

very few are not having trouble, yours truly included,
but on the whole there is lttle trouble compared to most other games, escecially when considering how many people on one server. ac would bog at 1/4 the numbers that they get on here.

It's definitely not what I would call normal. I frequent both empire space, the highways and 0.0 and never experience any real lag so I recommend you stay. And try running a tracert or something to test your connection to the eve server.
In summary, no problems here but, as always, your mileage may vary...

Edited by: NeoMorph on 29/03/2004 00:25:36 Edit: Damn typos
Servers tonight were the worst they have been in ages so it's definately not a normal night unlike what some peeps have said. This is definately NOT the norm. You have to remember that this is a single 3D world online while other MMOGs which split their membership amongs shards to balance the load. CCP are working hard to constantly improve the connection quality and it has definately improved over time.
Hell does anyone remember when it was hard pushed to get 1500 on the server without it going "GROAAAAAAANNNNNNNNN" - now we are breaking new ground with 8000+ online at the same time... and remember a LOT of the new people are going to be centered on the newbie systems so it's putting strain on empire nodes.
My advice is stick with it... or should I say "RUN FOR THE EVE ANONYMOUS THERAPY WHILE YOU CAN!!!" as once you get hooked you aint gonna want to leave. -------------------------------------------

Im a noob to the game and i say persist with it. I run on a modem and have (weirdly) very few issues with the server, occasionally i get to sit and wait 5 mins while i enter space and sometimes i get weird lag that makes my ship repeat what its doing over and over but it catches up with itself and if im fed up with it i just relog and problem solved.
If there really is 8k peeps online then its doing quite well and staying smooth most of the time.

HAVE FAITH
The servers have been fairly stable for the last few months...
Last night (Sunday) was an unusually bad. Only times I have seen worse server performace was in the first months immediately after launch.
I assume that CCP are working on it now...
Just pretty bad timing for those giving EVE a try for the first time.
When I 'eventually' managed to jump into Pator last night after the server reset there was 211 people in the system...

Persist!
The server problems are getting rarer and rarer and that, combined with quicker server reboots, means these things are less of an anoyance than they once were.

heres the problem as i see it, they restarted server due to tech problems (problems will acure occasionally nothings perfect) but then you have 8000+ players on sunday evening trying to log back in when servers go up this mad, it no wonder took ages to log in. This is a rare problem and doesnt happen very often, i cant remember this happening for a long time. Nyuusen Ceo The Triad Alliance |
