is this an epic fail? (i have yet to test it but I dunno it just might work)
hi slots: 3 named NOS mids: t2 mwd/warp scram/cap recharger lows: t2 overdrive / 2 x reactor control units
end of the day if i want to intercept and do damage ill use my crow - trying to make a build for the raptor that i like...any thoughts on this fitting? =)

i dont mind if it is an epic fail but rather than saying yes or no why not suggest an alternate setup

Epic fail no, it's a ceptor with a 28km point. If you hadnt fit a mwd and scram maybe. No ceptor with a point and a mwd could be epic. Unless you fit SPR's in the lows just to make sure you couldnt run anything ;)
I dont know the raptor well. Split weapon system, not enough grid for rails/standards.
Something like 2x Ions 2x Rockets(The weapons here were chosen for their ability to remove light drones from your airspace) Named MWD(grid)/t2 disruptor/fleeting or t2 web 2x OD, 0-1 DCII, 0-1CPR
Should work though.

Raptor setup "Drone THIS!".
HI: 4x Micro 'vehemence' smartbomb
MID: 1x 1mn AB II 1x Warp Disruptor II 1x Small Cap Battery II
LOW: 1x Cap Power Relay II 2x Overdrive II
Use: Can permarun all four smartbombs. Fly at the edge of scram range and if you get droned, use the smarties and hope the drones die before you do. If you're terribly anxious about flying without an MWD, replace an overdrive with a Micro Aux.
Sorry, I can't think of any other way to get this ship to distinguish itself...

yeah it is pretty rubbish thats why im trying a "outside the box" approach - idea behind the setup was (as part of a gang) that the energy u steal from nos'ing them while uve got 2 points on them should be enough to maybe stop u running out of cap.....

Just noticed the RCU's. As a general rule, Micro Aux power cores give 12.5 power (after engineering), which on frigs means a lot more than an RCU.
I tried a 150mm rail approach, but that leaves you with 2 empty highslots- although you can do 'some' damage from a 29km warp disruptor range...
Ultimately, there's nothing the Raptor can do that another inty can't do better. Even thinking outside the box, there's probably another inty that can fill the non-box-setup-idea better.
The last Caldari ship in need of a boost? +15 grid, +1 turret slot? Switch a low to a mid and give it a shield size bonus?

mmmz possibly maybe it can become a better ship if i only need the 1 micro aux then that frees up a low for..*something* =)

hi: 2 t2 75mm rails, with spike - optimal around 24km. 2 arbalest standard launchers (t2 don't fit)
meds: t2 mwd t2 warp disruptor t2 cap recharger
lows: 2 t2 overdrives t2 nano.
Needs AWU4 to fit, but replacing named items might help. Without the guns on, can run forever, but only 2min with them. it would go 6km/s with good skills.

I agree that +turret +pg would be quite helpful. But I think the current change on SISI is +1 turret, -4 PG. Also, wouldn't switching a low for a mid slot gimp the raptor's speed way to much?

super sekrit set-up that surprises a lot of ppl :-
hi:- 2 125m Railgun II's (faction iron or tungsten ammo) 2 standard Launcher II's (faction missiles for big ships, precisions for Anti-inty)
mids:- 1 MWD II (Gistii B-type for resonable price/performance upgrade) 1 Warp Disruptor II 1 Sensor Booster II (no script)
lows:- 2 OD II's 1 MAPC
rigs:- 2 Dynamic Fuel Valve I
using faction long range over spike means you can actually track and hit the target you are orbiting at 25-30Km. the rigs keep it cheap and mean you can perma-run everything without the need for cap rechargers. the non-scripted sensor booster gives you a 40Km lock range and ~1500 sig res. this standard t2 fit will do 5.6 - 5.7 Km/s without gang bonuses or implants. gistii b-type will do a shade under 7 Km/s bad news is you will need AWU 5 to fit it all. +++????+++Out of Cheese Error. edit- corrected speeds.
fitting rigs on a raptor not massively keen on that idea....awu5 - advanced weapon upgrades 5? other than the rigs still looks like a good fit guess u all hate my nos setup eh

Edited by: Tozmeister on 05/02/2008 14:24:37 those rigs are cheap. they dont need the alloyed trit bar to make so work out at around 7-10 mill each.
and yes, Advanced Weapons Upgrades 5.
edit- yes i hate your nos set-up. to use small nos you wil have to be within 6km of your target then cap yourself out to run the nos. one very dead inty. you have range bonus to warp disruptors and railguns, use them.

What I like best about the Raptor is the price. It's a cheap, throw-away tackler with a good, long-ranged point so I never go into combat without having at least a few of them outfit nearby.
2x Standard Missile Launcher II /w assorted faction light missiles 1x 75mm Railgun II /w Spike
1x 1MN MWD II 1x Warp Disruptor II 1x Cap Recharger II
2x Overdrive II 1x Nanofiber II
Just orbit at just under 6km/s at a radius of 25km or so with the MWD on and spew missiles until your target dies or you do. This setup doesn't do much DPS, but the missiles at least let you do something while at full speed and it's fast enough to be annoying to deal with. If the situation warrants it, I can kill the MWD, orbit a little tighter, and hit them with the railgun for a bit more DPS.
I call this setup the PoNTIAC: Poor Nitwit Thinks It's A Crow.
I've played around with other, more combat-oriented setups on SiSi. If you want to do any serious damage with rails, you almost need some sort of fitting mod so you can kiss your speed-tank goodbye. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

As stated above - your NOS idea is not good for an interceptor - because if you can use NOS, you better believe so can your enemy - who will incidentally also have you webbed.
An interceptor is good at 1 thing only - speed, prioritize that over everything else.
Weapons are secondary because you're never going to get much damage output anyways - and you will gimp your speed to fit damage mods.
Highs: 2x Neutron II 2x rocket launcher II
Mids: 1MN MWD II Warp Disruptor II <- use that warp scram range bonus! Web *** Not to be used offensively! Use to web drones and pick them apart, or to web an inty that gets too close. OR a cap recharger
Lows: Micro Auxiliary Power Core 2 x Nanofiber II/Overdrive II (use a combination that suits you - reach your desired speed, then fit for agility to approach that speed at orbit)
Rigs: 2 x Auxiliary Thruster Consoles - sure you could use polycarbons for better results, depends on your wallet!
Notes; Weapons and web are for defense against drones. Use this ship's scram range bonus and scram ships beyond 25 km - now even BS with heavy neuts can't reach you. Never get into into a larger ship's neut/web range. Make sure you have decent long range targeting skills or you can't lock as far as your scram range!
Let your gang destroy the target you've scrammed. __________________________________________________ Sup brosef! Destry's Lounge is looking for a few good drunks - contact me in game.

Edited by: Bronson Hughes on 05/02/2008 19:01:12 Post patch, I'm looking at two setups. These both assume that the changes going through are as they are now (+1 turret, -4 PG)
[Raptor, Railgun Raptor] 125mm Railgun II, CN Iridium S x 3
1MN MicroWarpdrive II Warp Disruptor II Cap Recharger II
Overdrive Injector System II x 2 Micro B88 Core Augmentation
~45 DPS with my skills
Great range on the point, can run the MWD and the point forever, or it can kill the MWD and open up with the guns from around 25km. DPS isn't great and I only end up with about 5.3km/s before rigs which isn't enough for a full-on speed tank, but it should at least let me break off quickly if I need to.
[Raptor, Blaptor] Light Electron Blaster II, Null S x 3 Rocket Launcher II, CN Phalanx
1MN MicroWarpdrive II Warp Disruptor II Stasis Webifier II
Overdrive Injector System II x 2 Power Diagnostic System II
~102 DPS with my skills
You're probably wondering why I mixed a long-ranged point with blasters. The idea here is to orbit at max point range until you decide to engage, drop in, kill the MWD, web your target, and blast it. It gives you the option of doing pretty good DPS for an 'Ceptor or hanging back to safely keep a point on someone. It has the same speed as the railgun Raptor above; not a full-on speed-tank, but it should be able to disengage quickly if necessary.
So, in short, it looks like the Raptor will retain it's ability to keep a long-range, speed-tanked point on something forever (i.e. 2xODs, Nano, MWD, Point, and whatever else) and it's gaining the ability to do some decent gun damage as well at the expense of speed-tank. I'd like it better without the PG penalty, but I like it.
Thoughts?
EDIT: I haven't played around with rigs yet, but the fact that I'm getting this kind of performance without them makes me happy. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

I'm thinking about the same thign with the post boost setups too. On your blaster setup - how cap stable would you be if you could swap the PDU II for a micro aux, and the electrons for neutrons?
I ask because the raptor has similar weapon bonuses as the Harpy (damage and range) and it would be nice to hit a taranis before it can hit you (assuming both are webbed - and you took the time to kill the taranis's drones before going at the ship). __________________________________________________ Sup brosef! I obviously can't test this in EFT yet and I'm at work so no SiSi, but if my math is right you should just barely be able to fit three Neutron IIs if you swap the PDS for an MAPC and drop the rocket launcher, but you need AWU V or an ACR to do it. You should be cap stable when you're using your guns (i.e. no MWD), but you will have to pulse your MWD if you're orbiting at max point range unless drop down to a Scrambler II.
I like cap stability while running the point in gangs, but for a more combat oriented 'ceptor (i.e. solo), getting the Neutrons on there is the way to go.
Also, keep in mind that I'm using T2 tackle gear instead of the better named/faction stuff because these are supposed to be throw-away designs. You can get better cap stability if you spring for Fleeting tackle gear. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

2 x 125mm rail, 2 x arbalest standard 1 x MWD, 1 x disruptor, 1 x cap recharger 2 x OD, 1 x MAPC
It'll be a lot better when it gets the third railgun. As to my earlier comment, nos and RCU are generally a horrible idea on an interceptor. A warp scrambler instead of a disruptor means you can't even tackle until you're inside the 13km sphere of death that is web range, where your paper thin tank will melt under even a couple light drones..

Raptor doesn't need guns. Its a gang tackle ship.
Do whatever you need to in order to make it go at least 8km/s and fit a medium shield extender, MWD, and scram.
You don't think CCP gave it split weapon system with the idea that the pilot would actually fit it like that, do you?
Nope, they did it to discourage you from fitting weapons to it at all.
1. Train AWU to level V 2. Make lotsa isk, buy expensive fittings and implants. 3. Fit a Medium shield extender to your raptor 4. Tackle everything and survive to tackle some more 5. win - **Thread Response System** A - Unnecessary whine. Please Adapt. B - Some or all of your opinions are incorrect. C - Thread already exists. D - You are correct. |

yeah i managed to get my raptor fitted last night with 2 x 125mm gauss guns (fitted with tungsten) 2 x stnd launchers (with bloodclaw) in the highs in the mids a 1 point scram mwdII and a named cap recharger in the lows 2 overdrive II's and a micro aux
seems like a decent setup of course after today i think im going to be about ooo 4 pg short lol

With the old Raptor I would agree with you. I would fit it for max speed and toss a pair of launchers on, but I never went with an extender because of the sig penalty and the fact that I like a cap stable build for pure point ships which required a cap recharger or a faction MWD. It used to just be a cheap, fast, reliable, long-ranged point that had a hard time doing any sort of damage.
With the new Raptor you can actually fit one to do some pretty decent damage too. You can't fit it for lots of gank and an excellent speed tank at the same time, but at least now you have options.
Oh, and although CCP said that they dropped 4 PG from the Raptor to keep it from competing with the Harpy, which makes no sense because a 'Ceptor should not be compared with an Assault Ship, I think they really took it away because people were fitting medium extenders on them. Try fitting a Raptor with a medium extender with 4 less base PG. Yeah. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Not that soon, but soon enough.
And it'll be 5 PG, not 4, assuming that you have Engineering V. 4 * 1.25 = 5. So probably you would just drop the launchers and slap a third 125mm on there. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |
