No way you will kill a Cruiser in a Merlin with a 1 week old char (except AFK ones ).

Yep a lone 100k friggie can most definitely own a 100mil BS, yep... ehm are you high? A cruiser, if the pilot is afk or a bigger n00b then you, maybe. With some cruise missiles you could kill some lone indies but not with a merlin. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

I you gang up with a couple of other heavy frigates (preferably Kestrel), AND if you use a loadout of cruise missiles (perhaps heavies will do if you get close enough and you're a flight of Kestrels)you just MIGHT succeed in dealing some heavy damage to a unwary cruiser or even battleship. It's a hit & run operation though...

With your character skills at the moment? Maybe other Frigates and Industrials.

Welcome to my KoS list
From reading this post I can see you are 1 week old. I am afraid you are pretty harmless to anything but another frigate or maybe a pod. Since you cannot camp gates and thus are forced to pirate in belts of 0.4 you are preetty much SoL. The BS and cruisers there employ heavy drones and they sort of eat frigates for lunch.
My suggest is getting a few months of experiance before you attempt to pirate. If you go out into 0.0 there are people like me ready to munch you, other pirates that don't like competitio and thus ready to munch you. Yep, stay in empire and train your skills.
Read post in ships and modules, fight NPC go get a feeling for your weapons and such. -------------------------

Dont be disheartened by peoples comments, my first pirating ship was a trusty merlin and you could do much worse. Working solo, you will be very limited as to what you can kill so I suggest you work with a couple more like minded players and begin hitting miners. Train up engineering, electronics, propulsion jamming, cruise missiles (heavies will do for now) and try and specialise your ship/gun choice ie just do caldari and hybrid.
Good Luck

While on the surface a Merlin seems a good choice, I have been suitably impressed by the Breacher (minmatar). With it's 3 launcher slots and relatively low cost it is ideally suited to fast attacks.
I'd mount a 1 MN MWD and either a webber or a scrambler (the only problem with the breacher is that it only has two med. slots). -- "I am an expert in not caring. Just get a kestrel. Train up to use heavy missiles, and go blow up some indys. Preferably blow up Xoan Sha though, cuz he's a smelly frenchman.

ugh kestrel is way slow. vigil it up man. warp scrambler, webber, mwd in the mids. 2 hull conversions and an inertia stab in the lows. 1 launcher, with cruise. long as u stay away from anything gallente, drones/hybrids (ouch tracking speed) nothing else will hit you. go after the ruptures/caracals/bb's/indies. depending on ur skills and availibility to named modules you should be able to crank that thing over 2200 m/s and get into warp within a second.

yeah man, gallente's are way too bad@ss of frigate killers. the tracking speed on those hybrids and those huge drone bays on even the cruiser level will rip u apart. gallente is ur worst enemy when ur in a frig

I agree...Kestrel is the way to go...It is capable of engaging muliple targets. With a signal amplipher, you could probably target people at about 50km depending on skills. Or engage up close and personal. It was my experience where i was able to engage 3 other frigates with heavy missiles, and with 4 cruise missiles going, its a scary thought. Shame we can't fit torps though...it make that ship an excellent support ship for bombardment of those stations.

U wont be able to kill much in a merlin except for frigs but a kestrel with 4x cruise missles in the hands on a good pilot cna probably kill minning cruisers (the low lvl ones that poorly equipped)
