I assume you ve heard this idea thrown about before, basically it s about being able to record and playback actual 3d engine data in the client instead of having to 'film' it directly with fraps as it unfolds on the screen.
an extension or addition to that idea would be to have a viewport re-play function that lets you view the last x number of seconds/minutes of what happened on screen when you were looking away/afk, whatever.
much like a portable pro audio recorder that always have 10 or 20 seconds of audio pre-recorded so that you wont miss anything important happening.

I actually really like this idea, When making videos it would be so much better then having to rely on codecs and compatibility issues.
You could link the capture and play it through the client at your own systems optimal settings.
Nice call

You could also use this to replay the last few seconds and frap it from a different camera angle... awesome. I like this. |

Yes, very good idea.
Should not be difficult to code. You only need the client to tell that the data source is not the Eve-Server but the file.
Actually I had a good while ago a similar idea, just that it goes further. Why not allowing to have in Eve some sort of remote TV? When you are sitting at a station you should be able to get the visual transmission data from someone else out there (after invitation only of course). Then you can watch in real time what the other sees at the same moment.
Maybe some idea for ambulation.

This was actually supposed to be a forthcoming game feature. One of the devs blogged about it a year or so ago. I think it was touted as something they were building into the new graphics engine (ie;Trinity). -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

In fact, is very probable that this code is already made. I imagine the devs had to do something similar when developing/testing the engine. I have already seen this before in many other games. |

** not that I want to bring FPSs into this discussion, but ID Software created a whole community of "movie makers" with their Quake series by having this feature built in. With the awesome graphics of Eve, can you imagine some of the pieces of game art that would come out of a feature like this!! -------------------------------------------- Eve Tools - Alliance Tracker

Hot dish!
Recording the game.. IN the game!
This was actually done in games such as Homeworld where you could actually interact with the demo.

I like this idea as well. I could be wrong but as all the in-game recorder would have to do its track the position of the objects and then render them back on playback, the system should have much better performance then using FRAPS.

Yes, Halo does exactly that. Its called Theatre, and you can replay anything and fly the camera around and record stuff. Wish Eve had it.

It's called a Demo and it's been around since the late 90s. 族---族

I like this stuff. Many games have that already they call it 'films' or 'ACMCAM'. I think it simply 'tap' all players input and direct that into a file for the viewer software to use.
With this system any player can record a battle and send the 'film' file to a corpmate with a SUPER POWER UBER PC to playback and FRAPS with top details and quality.

Sounds like a really good feature, the only problem may be how this can be exploited by scripts/macros. However, since most of the isk farmers seem to be sweatshop workers anyways, who knows?

I hate to just say "yeah, that," but this is a great idea. I play Halo 3 with my roommates and we love the Theatre option. I also play a few Source games like GMod and always appreciate videos make using the Source Recorder instead of FRAPS.
Also, this sort of thing could greatly enhance understanding of tactics and current events. Just imagine if we could read the browser news about some massive victory by a player-made corp, which has an embedded link to a video showing the entire battle, so we could all see what happened!

Something I was just inspired to - were this included into the game, it would add to those ambulation folks.
Go to your corp boardroom, playback a battle, run a commentary on this or that done good or bad, whiteboard changes, et cetera ----------------

Many of the Starwars games (Xwing, TieFighter) had this "theatre" mode.
Extremely nice to be able to go into any period where you had the recorder on and replay the fight from any point of view... either following your ship, someone elses, flyby mode, your POV vs any other object or ship, Slow motion, etc.
Yes, it would be a movie makers dream... and it would allow people to piece together and understand what happened just outside of their view (or too fast for them to understand).
I really, really hope the foundation for this was laid with Trinity.
