Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but:
1. As there is no native omber in caldari space (aside from that found in missions and exploration) the only choice of isogen available in the belts is kernite. This means .4 or lower sec system. This means random people will be taking pot shots at you. If you still want to do it try Horriksen
2. Same with zydrine, only for that you need to go to 0.0 to get any decent quantities per hour. This means that it is no longer random piwates taking pot shots at you but dedicated pvp pilots, who will be more than happy to blow your covetor/hulk out of the pretty night sky.
You can try your hand at missions. I suppose if you are lucky and roll enough lvl 4 drone missions you can get enough mins from drone poo. But I think you're pretty much stuck buying your mins.
P.S. I would not recommend mining omber in missions. Isogen prices are tanking hard and it may be more lucrative to mine veldspar or plag instead. Omber mission mining does provide a relaxing, pretty much can flipper free ore but the downside is that you don't make as much isk.

I did some exploring in hi-sec around that general area while I was getting my exploration skills up and I can say that it truly was slim pickins. Admittedly I did it right before and right after trinity patch, when exploration madness first hit. At that time decryptors, interfaces, and skillbooks were in such a high demand that everyone was on the proverbial band wagon. What I found was that the sites that remained for any length of time were the extremely low signal / hard to find ones.
Things may have changed a little since then, but in general I think the time spent exploring + moving your slow hulk to the system + mining + hauling the stuff makes it not profitable to do. Don't get me wrong, I do plenty of non-profitable things when I want to relax or do not have much time to pay attention to the game. Heck if we weren't in a perpetual war I might have made me a cargoexpanded hulk and went to icebelts to suck on popsickles, alt-tabing into eve every 40 mins to remove the snowcones from my hold while I do some work. However as a sole means of making isk, or making minerals for production that OP wants to do, it is definitely sub-optimal way to go.

do it the easy way, mine Plag, sell the mexallon and buy the isogen and zyd you need.
For large quantities of zyd, the best chance is an exploration site in 0.4 space. If you are lucky you can find Gneiss belts. BUT there will be nasty pirates around, and if they think your running a mining OP they will try to scan you down and pop the ships.

I am the ultimate zydrine miner ok .. so let me give you the run down on how to clean up with zydrine.....from ochre in 0.0.
Heres how and where etc etc .... !
Go To ORVOLLE
Firstly buy yourself a hoarder hauler - dirt cheap or make your own ...!
Then buy yourself an exchequer (gallente mid range mining cruiser)
Boost up your hoarder hauler with basic expanders - fly to the 0.0 gate and wait for entrance - (you may lose one or two here but they are dirt cheap and you only need one to get through..!
Fly your hauler to a safe spot marking it short and clearly - if you have to fly to a planet obviously do so at around 150 k max out to make your safe spot.
your in safe - eject and fly out of system ... go get your exchequerer -
Set up ... should be maxed out for cargo expanders (basic) you should get around 600 cargo space. Fit your three tech two lasers firstly and adapt accordingly with expanders and ab.
Fly in its gota pretty quick warp this thing but they can add up if you lose lots - fly to your hoarder.
Heres the sneaky bit.
Fly your excheq to the asteroid belts and search for a belt that has no npc's - the belts alternate not at random but by the preceeding belt to the one that has no rats in it. So say belt 5 has no rats the rotation will be that next cycle belt 4 gets no npc's/rats (but shhhh).
The first system from orvolle has loads of ochre - lovely lovely zydrine. There are two belts with no rats per cycle - so it might be belt 5 and belt 9 with no rats - next cycle it will belt 4 and 8 ...!
Fly your excheq to on toip of the asteroids (near as you can get) in the belts with no rats - mine your excheq full and fly back to the safe spot. As soon as you see ANYTHING npc or pirate .. get the hell out of there either by eject or otherwise. The excheq is pretty fast but you might get caught on occasion. I also load up in my safespot a vexor to take out any shadow serp npc's that appear.
Then just keep going till your hauler/s are full and fly them out - easy with warp to zero.
That ochre takes up alot of space though in your hauler and you need min 400 to be able to refine it that will give you about 200 zydrine. You get about 600 zydrine to aa full hoarder load out. You can take the gamble on a bigger hauler obviously but i find the hoarder (use more than one stored up in safe space and shuttle back to your loaded pout hoarders) You'll get about 2000 zydrine in about one/two hours if your good.
Problem is everyone is going to do this now .. maybe .. but it works really well and is easy as pie. !

For isogen: You can take a hop over to Sinq Laison, which is Gallente space, where ombers appear in relative abundance - and in highsec.
Can't help with Zydrine.

Edited by: Jelanen Farshot on 11/02/2008 17:32:37 In my neck of the woods omber is heavily mined and your m3/hour goes into the toilet due to partial cycles. I prefer exploration sites for omber mining. Found one the other day, prolly 50 or so omber roids (as well as silver and golden) each around 30k m3 each. Couple other guys got to it first, but I still pulled 12 cans of just silver and golden out. Like other posters have said, isogen prices suck atm and mining plagio is more profitable, but I need iso for production

I don't know if you actually believe what you wrote, but kernite can be found in 0.5 systems. I did it for the first couple months of my Eve life, and I know it's still there. Can be hard to find at times, as it's mined out quickly. Check Fridays and Mondays after down time. (Though admittedly, it's probably 0.45 - 0.49 true sec that has it, but it's 0.5 in the way of CONCORD.)

I also mined at the start of my career (about 2 years ago). I mined in high-sec for about 4-5 months (mostly in .5 around eitu, etc) and during that time I have never seen a kernite spawn in a high sec system of Caldari space. Admittedly my playtime is 4 hours before downtime to downtime and the roids could have been almost immediately mined out.
Are you sure it was caldari space and not borderlands with Gallente? Since I haven't really went into hisec belts in months, I will not argue with you. But I was damn sure that kernite is not native to Caldari systems. I can expect deviations in that in constellations on Gallente/Caldari border but not in Caldari proper.
Either way. Back in those days mining for isogen and nocxium was much more profitable then mining for mexalon. These days, with mexa going for 34-36isk per unit in Jita, it is much easier to mine plag in caldari space and buy isogen you need.

I usually mine kernite in Niarja (0.5). I do not think it is in Caldari space though. It is 5 or 6 jumps away from Jita. And it has no station in the system (at least last time I checked) so your nearest station will be on the next system over in Kaaputenen. Mining is systems with no stations works quite well. No one bothers you, and theirs normally lots of good roids.

In high sec, mission mining is still the number one best bet. Downing the slavers will give you 400k omber which equals about 240k iso. Other missions have good supplies of plag., scordite etc... even lvl 1 missions. So by mission mining you get not only minable roids but bonus and rewards, bountys, loot and salvage. Loot can be re-processed into mins so is like a secondary mining op. Believe, it all adds up.

Every 0.5-0.6 system in Amarr has Kernite, some more than others. Just get a Domain map and find the systems, shuttle your mining operation there, and keep at it till you've had enough of it.
Buy the Zydrine. Current prices suck but the alternative is mobilizing a mining gang and probably getting a ship or two or three handed to you in a trashbag.
If I wanted another job besides my real one, I'd join a big corporation. |
