I've done some searches, but I can't find any real good guides or threads on armor tanking, (passive and active). I'm sure there out there because I see them for shield tanking.
Sorry for the newbee question.

Well, you can have a pssive armor tank (and it's pretty common), but it's just buffer tanking and not a permanent thing like will passive shield tanking.

Passive armor tank = HP buffer.
Really just a mix of EANM II, DC II, and 1600mm reinforced rolled tungsten armor plates to maximize effective hp.

That looks like a good guide. Does any one know of any otheres, how about a fitting guide (out of game) that lets you try out diffrent mods with out spending any ISK.

If you're flying a battleship and don't mind being stationary, try a structure tank.
You can get insane HP and resistances (try 39000+ HP with 60% resist all. Comes to like, 100k HP).
Very cool. _________________ Burn.

how? obviously a DCII, but do BS's have that much base hull, or can you add to it with mods? I've never seen +HP hull mods, personally (though with a hull repairer, you'd be able to rep some of it, at least)

Reinforced bulkheads are (med slot?) modules that add to your base hull hp

In theory, yes. But in practice, if you run the numbers on the modules, the best large hull repper in the game has a base repair speed of 5 HP/sec. With the 60% resistances from a DCII, you can active hull tank 12.5 DPS per large rep (a little more with Repair Systems skills). And if you look at the capacitor cost, it takes twice as much cap per HP repaired to armour reps. And as if all that wasn't enough, it's a midslot module so you will definitely have something better to use in PvP.
Basically hull reppers are just not feasible to actually be used in combat (which is undoubtedly exactly what CCP intended). Good for sitting outside a station for 20 minutes afterwards though...

Mmm, kind of. In terms of sheer effectiveness it will come way an armour tank doing the same thing (200k EHP is attainable with the same kind of slots if you're armor tanking an Abaddon for example) - and of course you can repair / be remote repaired on armor much more efficiently.
However, it does have an advantage in the WTF?? effect. Noone expects to have to chew through 100,000 effective hitpoints once your shields and armour are down, and as a result they will probably write you off as blowing up any second now, as soon as you have those two red bars. This can lead to them spending a lot of time shooting at a target that just won't go down, and failing to switch their primary to something that is actually more fragile.
Obviously this is very niche and it's certainly not optimal for mainstream engagements. However, if you can get the situation setup just right, I can imagine it's an excellent way to play tricks on your enemy...

Imagine if you did it with a capital ship... A carrier, since their around the cheapest alliance-wise. Although if freighters could have a fitting, I imagine they'd all be structure tanked. I mean, just look at their BASE structure?
