Currently we have nine faction battleships (not including the uber gnarly ones given away at tournaments) you can actually buy on contract. They trade at wildly different prices in the contract market place. Four of the Faction Battleships derive their bonuses from one race and Five others derive their bonuses from being skilled in two different races and trade at much higher prices.
Here is a review of the lowest Buyout price for Faction Battleships for February 6th, 2008
Single Race faction Battleships:
1) Apocolypse Navy Issue-Amarr- 490mm 2) Megathron Navy Issue- Gallente- 370mm 3) Raven Navy Issue- Caldari- 450mm 4) Tempest Fleet Issue-Minmitar-350mm
Dual Race Faction battleships:
5) Bhaalgorn- Amarr & Minmitar- 1.7 Billion 6) Nightmare- Amarr & Caldari- 1.1 Billion 7) Marcharial- Minmitar & Gallente- 880mm 8) Rattlesnake- Caldar & Gallente- 910mm 9) Vindicator- Gallente & Minmitar - 940mm
In my opinion, the four single race faction battleships should trade at the nearly the same price in the marketplace and modifications that CCP makes should be to that end. The market place will tell you when equality has been reached.
The five dual race Faction Battleships trade at almost a 100% premium to one another with the Bhaalgorn sitting all by itelf at the top of the heap. That said, perhaps for good reason, as the Bhaalgorn can help take down capital ships with 8 faction nuetralizers and a squad of logistic ships to supply it with endless cap. (off course a couple domi's can do the same much cheaper) The other 4 dual race faction battleships are ultra gnarly in any one-on-one engagement and give very rich pilots something to impress their corp mates.
Recent changes to the Nightmare and Navy Apoc were a good call by CCP as no one was flying these ships much considering that a well fitted Abaddon could lay waste to both of them and only costs a fraction of the price. With the introduction of T2 Battleships, massive price pressure was applied to the single race faction battleships making them fall in price by hundreds of millions of ISK. Good if you don't own one yet, Bad if you do.
All of the information above leads me to suggest that faction ships that derive bonuses from three races could easily be introduced to the game. And eventually a ship that uses bonuses from all 4 races could prove very interesting as well. As Eve evolves and Pilots obtain even more skill points, having additional faction ships that take advantage of being a master of several races gives pilots with lots of skills another reason to keep playing the game.
Imagine Faction Command Ships that combine bonuses of two races, Faction Carriers that get bonuses from Three races, Heavy Assault ships with bonuses from two races, and every Titan Pilots dream ship- a Faction Titan with bonuses from four races!
Faction battleships with bonuses from three races should trade at three times the price of a single race faction battleship, and if a four race Faction battleship is introduced, it should trade at four times the price of a single race faction battleship.
At the end of the day, the market place of Eve determines if a ship is up to par or has been relegated to the back of everyone's hangar. As CCP slices the onion ever thinner, some ships get marginalized by newer ships. The marketplace is the best way to spot this trend and fix it fast. when prices equalize- VIOLA!
One question remains for CCP, when will I get to fly a Faction Logistic ship with bonuses from two races? You can't expect a drop dead gorgeous beautiful blond like me to be satisfied with just a run of the Mill T2 Logistic Ship to keep everybody alive do you?

these ships are different because the prices are dictated solely by player buying and selling. Mineral value which usually dicatates marketplace items doesn't apply.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the pricing of these ships as far as i'm concerned, it's one of the reasons that makes eve such a great game to play.

This doesnt make sense.
Would caldari and amarr sit down with Gallente for a coffee and design a 3 race faction battleship.
I think not.

Why does everyone feel like all 4 races have to be exactly equal in every area? Balance doesn't mean that every battleship is in equal demand, it means that all races have their strong points.

I would just like to take you up on a few points here.
Firstly when looking at this part of you're post
'In my opinion, the four single race faction battleships should trade at the nearly the same price in the marketplace and modifications that CCP makes should be to that end. The market place will tell you when equality has been reached'
What you have to take into consideration that the prices are due to a lack of supply on the market.
There a lot more people running missions for the 4 empires then the pirate factions, consequently the price of the faction ships will be sighnificantly more.
Also when looking at the pitrate ships the racial skills needed are generally of those of alliaed races, I.E the Vindicator needs minmatar and gallente spaceship command skills, with the two races allied together.

Supply and demand dictates the price, but supply and demand isn't soley dictated by how good a ship is (or isn't). Some variables to entertain you:
- how many mission runners of a certain race (impacts total LP gained for all of eve with that NPC navy) - how many ships survive or get destroyed (navy mega is arguably a pvp ship, CNR a mission ship, so the latter lasts much longer) - how many people train certain BS skills that match the skills needed for those ships (demand higher for more common skills) - perceived awesomeness of the ship - looks (oh yeah) - etc.

I think the prices are fine but the Navy Issue/Fleet Issue ships need a special ability to make the unique, atm they are just upgraded versions with a few extra HP and an additional slot. I was thinking about about giving them the aility to fit command modules (with 3% bonus per BS lvl), they are navy/fleet ships after all and that would actually make them interresting for ppl fleets.

a four race ship would obviusly be concord... that would be nice, just something not too overpowered and most likely an ew boat that is good with all ew?

The only really big problem I see with faction ships is the utter inferiority of the Fleet Tempest. It sorely needs a 7th turret to make it worth flying at all. Otherwise, they are fine imho, as long as the currently also inferior Navy Poc gets its share of the Apoc love.
There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Scorpion There is no 'e' in Caldari There is no makeup in rogue drones |
