Hey all, Just took the 10 day trial and love the game so far. I need some direction as the amount of information and stuff is a bit overwhelming.
1. I started a "fighter" template and (after two aborted characters) decided I didn't like mining for cash. I have started hunting pirates in .8 security space.
2. I have made about 60k so far and have been training in Gunnery and ship skill mainly.
Here are my questions:
1. I have read that Bounty Hunting is not a good profession. I have enjoyed fighting the NPC guys for money, should I continue doing this?
2. Should I be (a) saving for a new ship; or (b) spending money on equipment for the newbie ship?
3. If I should get a new ship ASAP, what would you recommend?
Any other tips? I would like to do some pvp, Pirate hunting, etc. Not much into mining.
Your help is sincerely appreciated.

1) Bounty hunting can be very profitable, but you will need a much bigger and better ship before you can hope to take on the bigger bounties.
2) You need to get out of your noob ship ASAP - frankly, they stink and it doesn't cost too much to upgrade.
3) As for which ship....depends which race you are but go for the best frigate that you can afford. The Cruisers come later.
Other tips - mining can be dull (though less so when done as part of a Corp) but is probably the quickest way to raise isk so you can afford tht new ship. Your best bet is join a friendly Corp who can advise you and help you attain the basic ship and equipment. What may seem like a lot of isk now will be nothing when you're killing the big guys.
There's loads of Corps out there offering to help initiate the new player - join one of them, upgrade your ship and then you're well on your way.
Finally, if you're going hunting, be it NPC rats or PvP - I would recommend insurance on that ship for the first time - until you know what you're up against. Nothing worse than losing that nice shiny new frigate you've worked so hard for!

You have to build up your character at the beginning, it is nearly impossible to earn enough money to get the needed gear with killing NPC's. You can not do any PVP with a n00b ship exept agains other n00b's. You have to do some agent missions and do some mining for a while. Mininge is extremely booring to do alone, but in a group it could be some fun. .. Get in touch with me ingame and join my corp and I will get you all the stuff you need incl ships and skills, but you have to help out with some mining also, at least at one time a week. I got a lot of good spawn places also, where you could go and kill some more rewarding NPC's than those you have been killing until now.
See you!

I played about three hours last night and made around 100k, but I was learning about the map and stuff. Once I figured out where to go I was able to do it faster. The average bounty on the NPC guys was about 2-3,000. I would find one to four at a time. If it was four, it was tough. They dropped some decent items to sell too.
Thanks for the help, any advice is appreciated. I am the race that is more warlike (caldari?).

Segfault, do like Losna have done. . Come to Mama Rhondix! . I will help you out with all the starting things. . I can take up to 10 n00b's into training in my corp. I offer a start-up package including all ships, skills and training together all the way up to a top lvl cruiser of your choice. After have recieved nessecary skills and ships and done some corporate work also, the former n00b could choose any wanted path for his character. I will also help you getting to a new corp if the character doesn't fit in my corp (example: we have no pirates). . It will work best if the new corpmembers are from europe. . Contact me ingame or tell your interrest here and I will contact you. Then you and a couple of other newbies together with me could give you a good start in EVE.

Bounty on the low level NPC's isn't where you can gain the most isk. Also refine the junk loot you get (almost all loot acquired) and sell the minerals. Between doing agent missions and a little hunting on the side you can make about 400k in a 3 hour session.
I suggest upgrading ships ASAP. Also upgrading weapons and modules.
A sidenote, don't quick sell the minerals all the time, store up the minerals and find a good selling price and sell there. As a general rule, don't sell minerals for less than 90% of the average value (the value is given when you try to sell something for less than the average market price).

Group mining is a good idea. In a group of 5-8 people you'd have say 1 hauler with an indy ship and at least 1 fighter with a frigate or cruiser. That could work in say 0.8 security level... the lower you go the more fighters you need and the more interesting the action will be.
