Ok, I'll get to the point.
My character is just over 2 weeks old, and I had a cruiser. I lost it in low sec, now im out of a bunch of isk, yadda yadda yadda, whatever. I'm not complaining, I was in low sec, I was fair game.
Problem is I was also pod killed, and I really don't know why.
First, I had no bounty on my head, so killing my pod was really more a waste of ammo than anything. Secondly, i'm just over two weeks old: if I have any implants, they're not going to be better than +1.
My question is this: what could motivate a pirate (as it was in this case) to pod kill me in this sort of situation?
It's like you're in a fight in RL, you lost, the fight's over, you give in, and stop trying to hit the person your fighting. They then proceed to kick you in balls for no apparent reason.
Is there any reason? Is it just to **** me off? Is it for some kind of sadistic pleasure?

Well it was probably just for the lolz, a good reason in its own right. But a logical explination is there were other potential targets in the area. They didn't want you to have a chance to warn people in local chat.

How would I afford it though? Besides, if I could, it would mean I probably bought isk, which in this case, coming to the forums would be just stupid.

It's not like people don't use noob chars as bait, your pod could be used as a warpin for a gang that would blow up the pirate.
So, as obviously he doesn't care about sec status better safe than sorry and pod everything in sight. -- Heat, easy to burn your mods by mistake, hard to get it to work when you need it the most. Well designed interface CCP! |

Ok, that at least makes sense. Not being able to warn people = more pirate profit. Fair enough, I think that works.

People will pod you for any reason (or none in particular), to cause you additional losses, add your corpse to their collection, hear that satisfying screeching sound, or just plain out of spite.
That's just the way it is, unfortunately.
EDIT: The people giving you reasons are just throwing you a bone. Believe me, people WILL pod you just for the lulz. ________________

how often do we get these posts?
they should really sticky a thread called "why the bad men killed your pod"
or alternatively, the first time you get pod killed you receive an evemail saying, "so they killed your pod. dont worry, its not personal and their reasons may vary"

There are many reasons pirates kill the pod:
1. Other potential targets tend to get spooked by pods moving in the opposite direction to them at gates. 2. It makes a funky noise. 3. It stops any local smacktacularness. 4. My victim might be a long way from home and so might appreciate a faster trip back. We're all heart. 5. Shooting the corpse makes and even funkier noise. 6. There's always someone that locks pods with weapons running hot despite the FC screaming 'RANSOM!'. "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" |

It's simply a part of the kill, makes a nice sound and becauase they can. That about sums it up.
You should have no 'emotional attachment' to your pod, there's no reason for that.

If you've lost nothing why are you complaining? I can't understand how some people have such a deep relationship to their pods. I mean you wake up in a new one after all.
Also when i started my cov ops alt the first thing i did was training the needed skills and plug a set of +3 into his head. He probably wasn't even a week old when he got those. Support the introduction of pod scanners so we can see if the case calls for a ransom! (or would ship scanners on a pod show implants? never tried :)
Also the security hit on killing a pod is always appreciated.

I had moment of nice a few weeks back where I didn't pod a newer player because he had some good answers in are private chat/ransom attempt. That said not 10 mins after that my ransom attempt on another somehow went to local chat and the newbie said "don't worry he won't pod you".

Sometimes yes , when you hate the victim for various reasons. For most pirates though , podkills feel like mere bonus points in their game. It becomes a matter of principle to try and catch pods , that is how we play Eve. It's grief duty , the pirate creed.
Still , the squishy sound never gets old to me

Inside every pod is a corpsicle just dying to get out.

It's not about you.
Unless you are being a real ***** then it might be.
But its kinda like, a finishing move you know. Like when mortal kombat first came out with the kill moves. Same kinda thing. Its never really personal unless my target makes it that way, and then I will milk it for all its worth and then squish. Lead follow or get the hell out of the way! |
