I think just about everyone can agree that lasers have to change. As of this moment, there useless on cruisers and cap eaters galore on battleships.
Laced crystals are crystals laced with different elements, atoms and whatnot. ie.
Neutronium and Antimatter Laced Crystal: Does all (or less) the damage of the crystal plus some kinetic/explosive.
These crystals use a lot less cap as well. They burn out because of the highly volatile elements they are laced with. It would be cool if they burned out randomly from maybe 80-100 rounds. This way we amarr have real ammo instead of relying on cap as ammo.
There are no close range beam weapons that can compare to either autocannons are blaster so heres something to fix that.
Adaptive concave beams. These weapons are very short range. You know when you used a magnifying glass to burn stuff you have to be very close and at a very specific range. These have the same idea except not so limited (hence the adaptive portion). So yeah they have about the same range as blasters/autocannons and they pack quite a punch as well.
These are just ideas, let me know what you all think. They probably will take a lot of tweaking to get right and i havent worked out how laced crystals will work; like if there will be a laced variation of each crystal or perhaps a device that actually laces the crystals.

Sounds like you've put some thought into it, and I like the idea (coming from a non-laser user)

Laser users need a blaster-like weapon, or a crystal that emulates that. Regular lasers don't do enough damage and don't track fast enough to be even close to a blaster. What we need is a laser blaster.

Thats exactly what the concave beam laser is :) ________________________________________________________

This is an excellent idea. I was considering using frenel lense augmentations for extremely short-range settings. And yeah crystals with limited uses before they burn out is a kickass idea if I've ever heard one. Get high performance at the expense of high cost from your beams, though the augmented crystals shouldn't cost as much each as the permanent variety's equivalent. Maybe 200,000 isk for 100 shots.
