As I will soon be piloting both a dread and a carrier I was wondering whether just to fit t2 equipment on it or faction. I hear all the laughing at those with t2 fits on cap ships, but if you expect to lose it in fleet fights wouldnt this be cheaper and a better idea? Yes I believe I will get a resounding FACTION YOU IDIOT, but I just want to make sure before shelling out the extra cash. Thx all

I say, go faction with the EANM if your armor tanking. Otherwise t2 should be good. Officer is always best but really expensive. Especially if your going to loose it. Thats my view though.

Edited by: Gamesguy on 09/02/2008 00:15:17 The 22.5% eanm and the 25% cap relays are worth it, other than that not really.

I think the same, the True Sansha Cap Power Realy (25%)is not expensive but no need for the really expensive stuff. And keep in mind, when you have only t2 fitting on your cap ship it does not hurt so much when you lose it.
There is no point in pimping a cap ship and then be to afraid to use it ever. And just not flying one because you can not afford faction loot is no fun either.

Honestly, a carrier (should you insure it) only costs about 250m to replace. If you spend 250m extra on faction/officer fittings, you could have theoretically bought an extra carrier w/o fittings when your current one blows up with that money. Then there's the whole question of whether or not to insure a capital, but I'll leave that one up to you.

Also brings the question would that extra 250m spent on better modules result in you NOT loosing the carrier? -=^=- "Someday the world will recognize the genius in my insanity." |

EANMs, webs, scamblers, sensor booster, smartbombs are all nicer with faction. However tanking gear like hardeners not so much.
To me faction is basically a trade of isk for CPU to fit things like zealots and Armageddons. -------------

i dont think that the costs of carriers are worth a faction fitting. T2 will do it, maybe, as stated from some others, the cheap faction items are ok, but definitly not all modules.
the difference is in the way you can use your carrier. if you fit it with t2, you can afford to lose it, and in that way you can bring it on the field with higher risk. a faction fitted carrier will be a greater loss, and in such a case you have to be much more careful.
so the question is not "faction or not", the question you have to answer is "do i want to use it in risky situation or not". and a carrier that you can lose will help you and your mates in way more situations than a carrier with faction fitting which you cant bring on the field because there is a chance of losing it.

Hating to sound like a troll, but it would be helpful if we knew which carrier/dread you were talking about?
If its a chimera then guritas Shield Boost Amps are pretty mandatory.
However, as mentioned previously, the choice is this either buy faction, or have enough isk to get a new capital after insurance

I've gone faction for SBA on my Phoenix, might go cheap faction for hardners and CPRs if I have extra ISK later. I think a solid t2 fit is probably better than a bad faction fit.

Edited by: James Lyrus on 09/02/2008 12:41:18 Some faction's worth using. Some isn't.
Price also varies a bit, depending on what faction you're wanting - D/G hardeners, for example, are actually relatively inexpensive.
So... it depends.
I'm considering faction CPRs, because they're a bit better (and fairly cheap).
I'm considering faction hardeners, because they're less CPU (and fairly cheap).
I'm considering faction smartbombs, because whilst they're quite expensive, more range on a smarty is good.
There is no shame in T2 fitting a Carrier or dread. Because as you rightly point out, replacement cost vs. fittings cost remains a valid consideration. -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? |

My chimera is entirely t2 fit. no faction, maybe some named. I refuse to spend more for faction on such a useless ship.
The phoenix however has faction.
Complex mods for a wyvern & officer mods for a leviathan.
Everything above refers to capacitor / shield tanking mods only.

you spend, 800(ish)mil on the carrier, 40m per drone control unit (i use 2), 15m per fighter (got mine when they were 22m), 270m on insurance, why not invest more isk into faction equip? then theres boosters...
