I suppose women can tank structures too... if they actually played Eve anyway.
"Those who are about to die, we salute you."
When: Thursday, February 14th. 1900 Eve Time Where: Yrmori <---- Same as last week.
What: This week, no restrictions on ships, fly what you like (and what you can afford to lose <--- VERY IMPORTANT). The only restriction this week? No Armor or shield tanks. If you're going to tank, it has to be Structure!
The usual prizes will be given out this week for kills, but we'll be adding in a special prize for the hull tank in each of the major ship classes (t1 Frigate, Cruiser, Battlecruiser, and Battleship, no prizes for t2). A prize will be given out to the hull tanked ship in each class that takes the most damage as evidenced by a killmail posted by your killer (ie. if we run into smash again we'll go by the kill they post on their KB).
You must actually die, and have no shield or armor modifying mods equipped (damage controls excepted) to qualify for a tanking prize.
Tanking Prizes: 1 Winner for each class. Frigate: 25 Million Cruiser: 50 Million Battlecruiser: 100 Million Battleship: 300 Million
BRING EWAR. Webs and scrams are needed.
We'll begin forming the fleet at 1830. This is a suicide mission, so plan to die a horrible death somewhere out in 0.0. I recommend getting your ship nearby a day or more early.
Bring Friends! Anyone is welcome to join us... even your ex-girlfriend!
This event will be covered LIVE on Eve-Radio.
See you there!

Maybe I should bring another myrmidon. It's not like I have anything better to do with my money
Ok let me explore the rules a bit; So if I showed up in a myrm with 6x damage controls and no shield/armor mods that would count as a "hull tank" ? Or would you say that at least one actual structure module is required? - Eve Radio Theme Fleet unofficial mini site! |

Edit: Also I was thinking, since we never actually run away from these fights, and since we are always in need of keeping our targets in place, would bubbles be of any use? I can't use them yet, but I'm sure there is someone who can, and the skill requirements aren't insane anyway.
Bubbles would be nice.
Ok on the tanking bit, if you have no hull mods that's still, for the purposes of this contest, a hull tank... so in order to qualify for a prize, you just have to NOT have any shield or armor mods. There are lots of structure mods out there though, like bulkheads, hull reppers, that kind of stuff. if you don't put any kind of tank at all on though, i hate to say it, but i doubt you'll win the tanking prize for your class.
Actually, if you think about it, the reppers are mid slot items, and the hull mods are usually low slots... i bet someone does end up coming up with a decent structure tanking setup... won't be as killer as the best armor setups, but it could be interesting.

That's a bit of a loophole though for anyone that flies a speed ship like an interceptor. It's not a bad thing of course, but it means that anyone in an interceptor or interdictor or anything similar will be able to show up with completely normal setups and still be eligible for all the prizes etc.
Just an observation of course Oh and another observation I've made: Medium hull reppers have a 30 second cycle for a 50 hp boost, so they are really rather useless. Even with a decent tank you will have trouble doing anything productive with them! - Eve Radio Theme Fleet unofficial mini site! |

Edited by: P''uck on 10/02/2008 01:25:52 well... a DCU II and t2 bulkheads can give a viable buffertank on some ships, too, i guess.
especially battleships with loadsa lows.
edit: but yeah, no matter how many hullreppers you fit, you will never have a useful "active" tank.
but 60% resists on maybe 10-12k structure hp... i bet we will be up for some WTF moments in the enemy fleet with that.
MAYBE we could consider a spider tank? it would be about time to teach people about spidertanking in the ER events ;) (i havent done the numbers on remote hull reps)

I've been asking since drone swarm since it happened to me there.
And maybe can we get some clarification.
If someone gets disconnected, or their computer crashes or whatever reason they are disconnected from the fleet and need to rejoin. If the fleet is already in 0.0 space, they shouldn't warp or jump to where the fleet is because they will appear on overview and everyone is going lock on to shoot them. They might be dead before someone reads "FRIENDLY " on local channel.
Try to rejoin from an outside area, otherwise If I see you're ship on overview, it is not part of the fleet and we're in 0.0 space, I'm going to consider that a valid target to shoot.

Thomas its impossible for the player that gets DC'd to chose where he warps to, so if the fleet doesnt move after he DC's and he signs back on e-warp will take him back to the fleet and he'll show up as a viable target. The players only hope is to pray the squad/wing/fleet commander is paying attention an see him sign on and gangs him back up before his e warp finishes.
This happened to international for the cruisers and I tried to get him back into my squad before it was too late but it didnt take effect until he was in structure.

PS: hell if i can afford it at the time of the contest i'l bring a scorpion...
EDIT: can i suggest something? it would be realy good if the FC was flying a covert ops ship with a cloak...that way he will be able to lead the entire battle without getting poped and podded...leaving the rest of us without a leader

imho you should qualify for potential awards with ECM instead of webs/scrams. at the end of the day thats the sepcified role of an caldari Ewar ship and whats probably most important, its the most effective way to fit an ewar ship.
what does a scorpion (fully insured) cost you, if it goes pop? 12 mil? 14? something in that region. look, im really really broke atm, but even i would be happy to borrow you that amount of money if you wish i for one would be happy to have you in a scorp next to my phoon. with all that blinky lights and ****.
if were goin down, we might as well do it in style
now i have something to say about the ruleset, i hope you guys discuss it;
Quote: A prize will be given out to the hull tanked ship in each class that takes the most damage as evidenced by a killmail posted by your killer (ie. if we run into smash again we'll go by the kill they post on their KB).
now i dont know how the "damage taken" function actually works, but im pretty sure, its counting hitpoints.
if you have an ACTIVE tank (which is pretty much impossible when its about hull) higher resists allow you to repair longer and more, thus increasing the "damage taken" on the killmail.
if youre buffertanking, i believe higher resists would LOWER your "damage taken", because in the end, just the "killed hitpoints" will make it into the equation.
now... if i fit my phoon for efficiency, it would be bulkheads and a DCU II. if the "damage taken" thing works as i think it does, it would be better to just fit bulkheads for the tanking prize.
you guys understand what i mean? thats a bit fishy, innit`? because we actually want to fit properly, not just for the tanking prize.
if you ask me, how to extend that rule, id say "you need a damage control to qualify for the tanking prize" which isnt perfect, but it should work. since its the only resist module for hull hp.
discuss plz.

good news!! my CEO gave me his old scorp against that he get the insurance later. so i will bring alot of ECM goodness to the fight. my only tank will be a DC T2...i hope that counts as a hull tank...

Using a DCU, at least on a battleship should allow for at least 1 or 2 rounds of active repping, especially if you activate them early so they do their first hit just as you start going into structure... I should think that would create an advantage over just using another bulkhead.... you're right though, when i was thinking about the tank I was thinking about the EFT calculations on effective HP which will not be reflected in the killmail.
I wish we had reliable ways of measuring the strength of someone's tank, but sadly we only have killmails to go by. Still though, I can't imagine someone passing up on the only module that gives you any sort of resists on your structure to fit one more bulkhead.
As far as the ECM Question, I have no problems if someone doesn't pack a scram or webber but goes all out on ECM, especially if it's a boat meant for it. In a roundabout way, sensor jammers are still ECM and valuable to the team.

well, yes, ofc you can get a cycle off. that is true.
but -you can laugh- ive been experimenting with hulltanks earlier, especially after the t2 bulkheads came out. the numbers on the reppers are SO BAD, that you REALLY REALLY do not want them. you can pack one for patching up after a fight, but especially on a ship with bulkheads that will take SO forever, that its not even funny.
for ****s and giggles i tried it with a tempest with 5 large hull reppers. its still so unbelievably slow. i bet youre better off in EVERY case with another bulkhead, but seeing hullreppers are meds and bulkheads are low, you (mostly) dont have to trade one for the other.
now, i havent done the numbers on REMOTE hullreppers. maybe one could conceive a spider-structure tank, that could be worth it. (but i dont think so)
to make a long story short: compare a generic battleship with x bulkheads ti another generic battleship with x-1 bulkheads, but say 7 hullreppers. (arbitrary value) unless they are shot at with completely pathetic loldps, the pure bulkhead setup will last longer.

Edited by: DJ FunkyBacon on 12/02/2008 15:03:48 I think no matter how we go about trying to set this up there are going to be "cheap" ways to win the prize. If someone is only wanting to win the tank prize then so be it, but we also give out prizes for kills and it's pretty hard to score kills if you have no resists and just get torn apart.
I guess you could say that I'm hoping people will see the value of using a DCU over that extra bulkhead.
EDIT: Actually, I've got the solution right here. If someone has a DCU Equipped, we'll add the % Resist onto the total damage received. So if the killmail posted by the killer shows that you took 2000 damage to kill and you have a standard t1 DCU equipped (50% resist all) then your score will end up being 4000 instead. In the same case of using a t2 DCU (60% resist all) your score would be 4400.
That should even things out nicely, and encourages using med hull reps too since it makes those points increase by 100%-120% as well.

I'm going to call you on this one dude actually. I checked your fit in EFT, and even with all skills at level 5, you could only have 10500 hull. My Brutix had 14500 hull. My death Summary: - Battlecruiser (Hurricane) - Damage recieved: 23,766 (before DC bonus) - Hulltank fitting: - - 5x Local Hull Conversion Reinforced Bulkheads I - - 1x Damage Control II (60% structure resists) - Final points: 23,766 * 120% bonus = 52285.2
I'm going to call you on this one dude actually. I checked your fit in EFT, and even with all skills at level 5, you could only have 10500 hull. My Brutix had 14500 hull. I don't know how you could've taken more damage than me. Maybe there's an explanation for it, but would be nice to know how it's possible.
screenie of the kill mail I also had the +3% structure implant (until I was podded). And don't forget natural shield recharge will also count as extra damage sustained.

id have some ideas what we could do:
speedfit skeet fleet (wow how creative, but still) drunken frig raids (maybe IAC lend us an FC for that?) towershield day (fit all plates, resists and extenders. one med for EWAR) gank gang (damage mod frenzy) bomber fleet (all take one type of smartbomb and harden up against that damage)
and im totally up for another battle badger thingy

Was great fun - best FunkyBacon Fleet for me so far. The other three fleets I was in always ended in a blob 15min after we finally headed out.
But too bad we didn't wait another 5-10mins before going into FFA mode. Would have been a great fight with that other gang that just arrived.

I would definitely skip Sociology to make this fleet. Its been a real bummer since I haven't been able to do an ER fleet since the Industrial Revolution.

Edited by: P''uck on 15/02/2008 15:32:31 i dont really see the point in cloakarama...
apart from easy bathroom breaks
i mean all you can do thats special with such a fleet, is hide
edit; ey funky, if youre somewhat alive, how about telling us, how you are? last thing we heard, was you going ill... hope youre fine!

Hey guys. Thanks to everyone for their patience. The illness turned out to be food poisoning, but I'm happy to say I've made a full recovery! Anyways, I have some things to take care of today, but I plan to settle the prizes and such sometime tonight.
A big thank you to everyone who made their forum posts like we asked, that should make the process a little faster!

So what's the word on the next fleet? (Read: 'Funky you can't just leave us hanging after such a < subjective>horrible failure< /subjective> last week! We can't just end it on such a down note, it would be like Star Wars without Return of the Jedi!) - Eve Radio Theme Fleet unofficial mini site! |
