For 0.0 space; baiting and killing cruisers and the like.
Whats the best ceptor out there? Also whats the best use of low slots? CPR's and nano layout?
Thanks!

baiting with ceptors? i generally run from ceptors for fear of the blob that is following it. i did watch someone do a decent bait with a caracal. he had a rapier for back up. bleh. popped one of my thoraxes back when i ratted in low sec.

I'd personally recommend 1 BCU, CPR, and OD, then aux thruster rigs if you're going to T2 it. I don't use that particular low-slot config but every bit of DPS helps.
EDIT: Aux thruster rigs because it's purely for cheapness

If you want to solo in a ceptor roll with one of the long range ceptors. The speed tank is much better then trying to dps your close range targets. Theres to many counters to the close range setups and a few counters to longer ranges.

If you know how to fly, a blaster-ranis can eat any interceptor 1 on 1.

Sorry I came across*****y sounding. I think speed is the ceptor deal. When they get into web range that speed is pretty much negated and that little 5% bonus to dmg per level is negated by normal tanks which a ceptor really shouldn't be trying.

Edited by: Parfait M on 10/02/2008 06:42:39 The easiest ceptor to fly is the pimped Crow though, tbh. About 10 minutes ago I solo'd a T2 Vaga in my Crow under the nose of a Hurricane and Drake, but it's basically the knowledge of what ships to go balls-deep, and what ships to give a wide berth (BS, even if they don't have neuts, Minmatar and Amarr recons, etc)
For cruiser killing, as the OP asked, nothing beats the Crow. They may be able to tank you for a bit, but their tank will more times than not break down. All you have to worry about is backup coming in before you can kill it. If they're clumped together, you're usually safe, but spread out, they can web you and that'll be the end of you. That's when manual orbiting comes in to play.

With a Taranis, you can PROBABLY get away with killing a cruiser with blasters if...
A) You're like 500m away B) They don't have drones C) They don't have a med neutralizer D) You turn off your MWD before you hit web range, so you glide to 500m or so
And I can assure you, they almost certainly have drones. Or missiles. Watch out for a light missile Caracal damn it!
A large part about soloing with a ceptor is knowing when to run, what to run from, and where to run to. Always have an escape plan, and don't escape prematurely or you'll miss out on a nice kill, because ceptors are unforgivably fragile.
Jumping into this topic a little late to be sure. Taranis > all.
I have yet to meet any Interceptor which can beat me down. I've solo'd Vagabonds and pretty much every Interceptor in the game (although, I confess... the Claw terrifies me).

sry, you're staying at 10km-7km where I want you
blaster-ranis are funny as hell when you fly railranis. its like holding an angry kid at bay with your hand while you pound on him with your other, as his fists miss you by miles.
especially easy because they all dive bomb you, then miss, then you web, then they strain to get back within 5km.

The crow is probably the best choice for attacking cruisers (only T1 really). There is pretty much only one crow setup afik:
3 x standard missile launchers
1 x MWD 1 x Warp Disruptor 1 x Web (you could use something else here...)
3 x Overdrives (iirc this gives you the best 20km orbit speed)
If you want to take down ceptors, you could fit rocket launchers instead and web them.
I haven't flown a rannis much. Basically the idea is to fit blasters get into close range and do very high dps. Anyhoo:
3 x Neutron Blasters
1 x MWD 1 x scram or disruptor (scram uses less cap, but has poor range) 1 x web (you need this to hold your targets down)
3 x OD, Nano, Istab, magnetic field stabs.
I can't remember what to fit in the lows, it depends on whether you want to kill cruisers, (damage/good orbit speed at 500m) or ceptors (enough speed to run them down, and enough agility to avoid overshooting.)

Urkk, no. In lows on Ranis, DCU should ALWAYS be in one slot, so basically treat it like it has two slots.
And for God's sake don't fit 3 ODs on a Crow. If you MUST fill the lows with all speed mods, plug in at least one Istab or nano.

Taranis (either railguns or blasters) owns everything. It's a bit slower than most other interceptors, granted, but it makes up for it by nearly twice the amount of DPS.
