Fruit juice only gives the "runs" if its abused and drunk in large ammounts, or if you have an intolerance of it Orange juice is a big one for doing that.
The main problems I have with diet drinks is that the tend to contain chemicals that have a diuretic or laxative effect. Which is a pity as I love Pepsi Max.
A lot of food allergies that develop (as opposed to those you are born with) are possibly linked with a reaction to an earlier illness causing your immune system to become "over sensitive" or caused by over exposure to a product/chemical.
Over exposure is a big problem as we tend to use a lot of chemicals(natural or manmade) in foods you would not expect to find them in (citric acid, sugars, fruit extracts, lactose and milk extracts, gelatine and meat extracts, refined enymes from shell fish and moluscs, insect extracts....Its all in foods. Makes it tricky for a lot of people with specific dietry needs.

PLEASE. No matter what you eat it will eventually kill you. The very air you breathe is highly reactive. Also, every day you bathe in the light of a thermonuclear fire that's raging an AU away. OMFG, that has to be dangerous. And it is.
Thing is, anything that you eat or drink in an excessive manner will harm you. --------------------------------------------- GET TO THE CHOPPA!!! |

Drowning is an urban legend. In fact I sleep at the bottom of my pool so the damn neighbor kids loud devil music doesn't disturb me.

There aren't any of them that particularly appeal to me. The only one I'm really partial to is Orangina(sp?). Even then, I only drink the ones in the glass bottle. Canned Orangina is not cool.
Coffee's my vice.

one of the sweeteners in cola light has something like 90-something sideeffects... a few of which is loss of long- and short-term memory, hyperactivity, and brain damage... in fact it was classified as a neuro-toxin.
had a friend who, if she drank just one can of coca cola light got a few of those, most notably short-term memory loss and *major* hyperactivity.
think it was the one called Aspartam.

Sound more like a reaction to caffiene not the sweetener. The memory issue isn't memory its concentration. While you're system is hyped up on caffiene you are more alert but you have a tougher time trying to focus or concentrate on something. Some people aren't really too affected or dont realize they are being affected. Some people get all giddy on caffiene.

Edited by: Sharupak on 14/02/2008 01:50:27 An ingredient in Aspartame...Methanol
As the lady said, probably ok every now and then, but one diet soda a day for a certain period of time, Quote: Methanol is toxic by two mechanisms. Firstly, methanol (whether it enters the body by ingestion, inhalation, or absorption through the skin) can be fatal due to its CNS depressant properties in the same manner as ethanol poisoning. Secondly, it is toxic by its breakdown (toxication) by the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase in the liver by forming formic acid and formaldehyde which cause permanent blindness by destruction of the optic nerve.[2] Fetal tissue will not tolerate methanol. Dangerous doses will build up if a person is regularly exposed to vapors or handles liquid without skin protection. If methanol has been ingested, a doctor should be contacted immediately. The usual fatal dose is 100û125 mL (4 fl oz). Toxic effects take hours to start, and effective antidotes can often prevent permanent damage. This is treated using ethanol or fomepizole.[3] Either of these drugs acts to slow down the action of alcohol dehydrogenase on methanol by means of competitive inhibition, so that it is excreted by the kidneys rather than being transformed into toxic metabolites.
Doesnt say it will make you fat, but I am thinking I will ******* stick to smoking thanks!

I do not see a methyl alcohol group here. Besides, that's like saying cyanide is an ingredient in DNA, so it can't be bad for you.
Or I completely misunderstand.

Right out of a kids science book
Not really.
Methanol is methanol and it is poisonous to humans. Cyanide may or may not be poisonous, when its combined with hydrogen or potassium...but then its an entirely different molecule. _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. Ahhh, I see the methanol group now. T'was hiding off in the corner...
And I thought CN- was poison regardless of what it was bonded to, as long as it disassociated into ions readily.
