Drakes are great for pvp its really just a matter of the role you put it in like being bait for instance. -----------------------------------------------

With maxxed missile skills, T2 Launchers, BC5 and Racial Drone Spec to 4 it puts out decent damage even while heavily tanked. Throw in a BCS or two and it's not bad. Of course you still have no scram/web and you're still slow but you can sit there, take a beating and dish out some pain. Works best in gangs of 3-5, IMO.

yes thats a very stupid thing to say as it just illustrates your immense failings. Caldari aint the best SOLO pvp boats but proportionately you will see more pvp in a gang than solo by a long shot.
Drakes fulfill several roles well, depending on the gang but as others have said before, its reputation has more to do with an assumed weakness than from any real issues, much like the "amarr problem".
I dont really fly em much anymore appart from when some nostalgia overcomes me or for a change but this setup is probably the better one I have seen for a passive tank.
x7 heavy
Mid x2 lse, x1 em and x1 therm hardeners, 10mn MWD, 24km scram
lows 1 bcu 3 spr
rigs x3 purgers
great tank, moderate dps that will still comfortably take down cruiser sized craft quite quickly. Alternative setups will swap out the scram for an invul field, more bcu for dmg over spr or a bait set up which drops the mwd and bcu for more tank (lse and sprs).
pretty versatile and by no means a bad choice of ship for a low-moderately skilled player, particularly one which is missile specced. Its an anti support ship and probably works best in low sec pirating or in 0.0 to add beef to a gatecamp.

So a battle cruiser class ship that can kill a cruiser, Drakes really are awesome.
What do you mean by "moderate dps" btw That set up with 7T2 launchers faction missiles and a T2BCU does less dps than a Rupture...

fixed for you.
But you are absolutely right- a ship that sustains a fire rate simular to a cruiser class but can sustain that rate of fire for much longer in a "battle" shouldnt be called battlecruiser.
thats the problem with all the EFT warriors on this forum. They think in terms of seconds rather than in terms sustained damage. Moderate damage means that in a small fleet/ gate skirmish a drake is going to be much more useful/effective than your rupture.
It's nice enough to fly but for it to be really effective the rigging makes its "cost effectiveness" a little bit skewed.
Regardless if you dont like em dont fly em. Who gives a sh*t.

I don't know how you set up your Battleships...but they tank alot better than a Drake
I find it funny that you accuse me of being an EFT warrior when your only reason to fly a drake is based on its passive tank figures.
Let's see..roaming gang, drake is too slow, and can't align fast enough Battleship gang, Drake doesn't have the punch or range Remote repping gang. Drake can't fit LRR or have a drone bay useful for repping.
There is nothing that it can do in pvp that isn't done better by several other ships.
But as you say, who gives a **** if you want to fly around in a brick shaped coffin with the firepower of a taranis

Edited by: Crowdad on 15/02/2008 04:12:27 Edited by: Crowdad on 15/02/2008 04:08:24 Drakes do do puny DPS... They can tank okay, but even a cyclone can break a drake's tank. This is how I fit my cyclone for pvp, I think it does its job quite well. The cap injectors to keep the shield booster running, sacrificing resistance to take advantage of the cyclone's boost bonus. With a fit like this I think any solo bs will go down with 3 cyclones eventually, even cap neutral dual repped domi's. It takes some creative flying though... Here's the fit:
[Cyclone, PVP] 2x Nanofiber Internal Structure II 1x Overdrive Injector System II 1x Damage Control II
1x Warp Disruptor II 1x Medium Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 800 1x Invulnerability Field II 1x 10MN MicroWarpdrive II 1x Large Shield Booster II
5x Dual 180mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M 3x Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Hellfire Rage Assault Missile
4x Vespa II
28062 effective HP 5494 shield, 201/s, E/T/K/Ex=38/50/63/75 1887 cap, -59/s, +45/s, lasts 1m51s (but you don't always run the booster or mwd) 1560 m/s 347 DPS, with decent skills.
This fit should go for 35-40m isk. Which isn't that bad for a battlecruiser, not at all...
edit: semantics edit2: fit missed a launcher

ok so this is my Alt - Don't want to give away any info :)
THE DRAKE is by far one of the best solo PVP ships for someone that has been in EVE for LESS than 6 months -
After only 5 months my Alt has 450DPS and can PERM TANK 500DPS and yes this set up DOES have a 24km Scram with a set up costing under $120 million isk. (all T2 except rigs)
I agree that there are better ships but these too have their down falls..
this is my drake set up an, old corp mate had a drake after about 5 months in the game with 550dps - good resists and 25K shield with scram and web.
so to anyone why says that a Drake does Crap damage with a good tank i say #CRAP#
tanking 500dps will allow for me to do great damage to the fool that warped in next to me..... it also is GREAT for gate camping i have taken out 3 cruisers at a gate while under fire from every one - i have also jumped into a gate camp of 2BC and 1BS and done enough damage and tanked enough to scare them (even more so when my mates drake came in to help) :P
The ONLY time i have lost a Drake was in a Gate camp with 4 Megathrons + multi other ships 12 in total (long kill mail) ---- lasted 40seconds :(

People don't use them for PvP much because all the newbies use Drakes to mission run with about 700K SP in missiles tops in combination with a max tank setup, and then try it out in PvP to find out they do wet paper bag DPS and die to gangs or fail to catch anyone in said setups.
So they get dissapointed in drakes and give up altogether, while the simple fact is that the Drake requires SP and thinking about PvP fits rather then fitting it the same way you would for killing rats to be effective just like any other BC.

With 4x Dread Guristas BCS and 7x dread guristas heavy assault launchers with KINETIC ammo, and 2x Bay Loading Accelerator I rigs: dps goes up to 637. 20km range.(fitted on EFT 2.4.1 with all lvl 5 skills). This is obviously an unrealistic fit, the coming fits have only 2x BCS.
Now, same thing except with t2 launchers, ammo and a more realistic 2x t2 BCS is 526 dps. Kinetic damage... and a puny 16.9km range.
With t2 heavy launchers and scourge fury ammo, its 409. 40.5km range. Which is a much more realistic fit that anyone would have, so you could change ammo and fire at 84.4km with Caldari Navy Scourge for 402 DPS.
Unless you gimp your range I don't see how you can get 500dps.

We got our arse kicked by a Drake heavy gang today, they were supported by a Basilisk and two carriers, they had some very nice remote repping going was very hard to kill them, the amount of dps the Drakes put up surprised a lot of us, they were out damaging BS's on the killmails...

it doesn't need to fit scram/web when you have tacklers in your gang. if you mean solo pvp sure no drake.
but drake in gang is good. they do adequate dps and tank like crazy imagine 10 drakes. 2 arazu 2 rapier 2 inty and 2 falcon in a gamg.
in a gang where your guaranteed fight and no empire docking station hugging rubbish, thats what the drake is for.

simple answer drakes are epic fail.. no dps even with t2 launchers, slow as hell, cant tackle well, dont suit e-war due to everyone passive tanking them, anyone with a brain cell kill o the rest of the gang first, also they dont hold up against neutron mega or torp raven so basically they are a big sack of usless.

Oh man, this thread is hilariously awful, it's like some monumental Strategic Fail Reserve. That ^^^ post sums it all up, it's just every clueless noob myth about Drakes rolled into one.
BTW, the Drake is a terrible bait ship, and not just for the reasons that should be obvious.

617 DPS Tank - That's with a point, without I can get it to around 815 521 DPS Damage - Not too bad IMO 1,043m/s - Hardly interceptor speeds, but reasonable enough
Yes, a Drake with full on Passive tank does no damage and is slow as hell, but you wouldn't ever use a Passive Drake for solo PVP, so the point is kind of... Well... Pointless.

EFT fight!!!
Come on guys... Drake can work in a small gang, but a thorax has more DPS with a set of 5 med T2 drones and 5 electrons. Drake is slow, clunky and just plain boring to fly, and I have over 300 kills in one. I never soloed in it either.
But w/e... all I can say is any drake brought out in a gang had better fit something to make it useful other than being the last ship to get pointed/fired on. A ship is a ship, and they all have their uses. Drake just fits for mission running rather well... and shield tanks suck in a gang when everyone else is remote repping armor (My onyx is sad because of this )

I used a Drake two nights ago in small gang during a suicide run thru deep space. At the fist encounter we jumped into 3 to 1 odds that favored the opposing side. I tanked nine blinky red things in my overview till they died or scattered.
The fun lasted for a hours till later in another part of the region, we decided to see if we can take out the leader of a twenty-something man gang hunting the three of us. We jumped into their fleet, killed the target and few others. The whole fun costed me less than 80 million, which included full T2 fit and faction ammo ... it was well worth the ride.
Using a Drake for PvP, oh hell yea .. I can fit a warp scrambler, heavy tank, remote rep and dish out high DPS with my nearly max'd out missile skills. For 80m ISK, It's a disposable brawler. The only drawback is that it's so dam clunky slow even with max'd nav skills.
A fresh new alternative to Caldari PVP is the Onyx. It passive tanks likes a Battlecruiser. The focused script + field generator allows the Caldari pilot to free up a midslot for a MWD, making it possible for cruising speeds upward above 2kms. The DPS is not very high but is decent for cruiser class ship and the missiles do not consume cap, allowing power to be used for the generator and speed.
The Onyx is an acceptble answer to the Caldari need for a solo PvP vessel.

Solo any other BC or tanked HAC. Only the Myrm can match the Drake's combination of gank, tackle and tank. And nanoHACs will get a nasty surprise if they think "Oh, a useless Drake, it won't have a web...".
