acctually the skill training server is seperate from the game server.
thats why your skill keeps training during DT and even patch days.
might be wrong and ccp is using magic to do this :P.
and tot he OP:
you can only change skill ingame... i know its annoying.. because i forgot allso :P but i dont care. i forgot to change skill last night before bed allso.. so that makes allready 10 hours in 24 lost. ---------------------------------- This is Me |

You are wrong
The thing that is done is that CCP simply keeps the timestamp when you started the training and at how many SP you started training the skill. With that they also store the time your training will be finished.
So when you shutdown, there is no issue your extra skillpoints are not added to the skill (one every second) only when one of 3 things happens: - You change the skill in training - You cancel the skill in training - The finished date/time is passed.
So when the DB is down your skill keeps on training and as soon as it comes backup you will see your extra skill points based on the time elapsed since you started training the skill. Most likely once every hour or so the actual skill point total will be updated I guess... but that is just a guess.
Anyway if CCP had a seperate machine running that was adding to all accounts with a skill in training a skillpoint or two every second that machine would have to be up and running 24/7 for the past what? 5 years

I don't believe that it is a separate server - it is just db entries for when it finishes the current skill./ -- BIG Lottery, BIG Deal, InEve & Portrait Server

Sort of right..but also very wrong :)
Skill training is almost certainly dealt with by an entry in the main DB recording the skill, level and start time. This would mean that technically you are never actually training a skill. At any given moment the client can query the DB, get the start information and from that calculate how far the 'training' has got.
The only reason you can't change a skill from the website (aside from CCP not wanting to provide that functionality) is that CCP have chosen to restrict public access while they carry out their daily maintennance tasks. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran)

Wich pherhaps also explains why you must cancel your skill training to install implants/jumpclone. Because then there's a new "finish" date for that skill.

Explains also why you train with your current sp/sec rate after being podded, losing your implants, as long as you don't change the skill.
