Ok had same problem as everybody else. Just patch so it wasn't due to time but I did that rename folder trick and now working. BUT it took long time to figure out due to fact my folder was hidden so those who can't find use Search and set advanced options to show all hidden folder then use properties to make application data folder non-hidden. I hope this won't this fix cause other problems. CCP would be nice to have help in this.

Yeah, deleting the folder as mentioned worked for me too. And amazingly CCP have put a message out to check 'the news' on how to fix it - and there is nothing on the page that it links to that I can see that describes the fix - and the message doesn't appear anyway if yoou still have the problem becuase the login won'y get that far. You only see the message AFTER you've read this thread and don eth efix.
Classic!
Pretty poor support there, CCP

That is why average IQ of EVE players is higher than average IQ of WoW players.

Anyone had success with re-installing?
Trying to. So far I'm getting a corrupt installer error after two seperate downloads. (WinXP, classic engine. Don't know if premium is having problems.)

1. Go into the following directory, and delete the contents: XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP Vista: C:\ProgramData\CCP Mac: /Users//Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences/p_drive/All Users/Application Data/CCP Linux: /.cedega/EVE Online/c_drive/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data 2. If you using a shortcut to launch Eve, you can simply change the case of the link, for example change C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE to C:\program files\ccp\eve
FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND IT WILL WORK FINE !! JUST DELETE THE CONTENTS OF ONE FOLDER !!

And yet CCP still haven't bothered to post on these forums in the one place most people are going to look for any issues. i.e THIS THREAD

Due to an unforeseen side-effect of the attempt at compiled code patching back in January it appears that the newly patched Trinity 1.0.2 client was still using the downloaded compiled.code from the hotfix in January, and thus the machonet version number did not match. If you are getting the error "Incompatible (Protocol)" when trying to connect to Tranquility post Trinity 1.0.2 patch, it is because of this previous patch. To alleviate the problem you need to do one of the following:
Go into the following directory, and delete the contents: XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP Vista: C:\ProgramData\CCP Mac: /Users//Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences/p_drive/All Users/Application Data/CCP Linux: /.cedega/EVE Online/c_drive/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data If you using a shortcut to launch Eve, you can simply change the case of the link, for example change C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE to C:\program files\ccp\eve
run these lines using the execute option wich you can find under start for a PC. for a mac its pretty much the same thing only you have to do it manuely.
basicly each / meens you are going in a folder and the name of the folder is given everytime. for PC uers you need to ue the execute option cose these are hidden folders. once you find the folder delete it or rename it.
then when you rstart EVE it will remake them meening you can connect ^^
Sorry to inform CCP that deleting the folder for mac still brings up the same damn INCOMPATIBLE PROTOCOL bug
Please reply sorry for the multiple threads.... happy for those of you who find deleting works but I'm ****ed!

I know some people will call me stupid for this, but I'm no computer expert and I dont want to screw up my machine by deleting files when I don't understand what I'm doing. Is there any other way to fix this data protocol issue without deleting/ renaming files? I did go into driveC , but I'm not even sure what I'm looking for. I just like to play games, not screw around with files.

I've heard people calling this the "Scotch Tape fix". Maybe we should call it the "Minmatar fix" to stay in-character. ----- "I am prepared to meet my maker; whether my maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter." |

I fixed this on Vista 64bit by this way:
run: c:/programdata/ccp
that opens a window, now delete folder c:/programdata/ccp
i think also run: delete c:/programdata/ccp should do the trick
