Deleting the Folder worked for me, but first I had to exit the login window and start up EVE again. I still received the Protocol Error When I tried logging into EVE with the window that was open before I deleted the CCP folder.
I work in the Computer industry, and with such a simple patch that was really poor QA to have a bug like that in the patch.

Update for anyone who has or is trying a reinstall instead of the workaround.
Reinstall does not solve the incompatible protocol error. Which is, unfortunatly, exactly what I expected after the workaround was posted while I was in the midst of downloading the current client.

No, this is not the cache. I looked. The cache is in the Local Settings area, and not under All Users. This is single file, compiled.code I believe is he name.

k, i deleted said folder, and am currently d/l'ing the entire client for a new install. i prefer to not do this, because i have 8 accts, for all of which i will have to redo all my in-game settings. i first installed the patch, the patcher told me i had to restart my pc, so i did. now, i have deleted said files, and i STILL get a quick flash of the client boot window, and that is all. suggestions? please? lol, at least i have given myself 2d 14h on skills!!! YAY!!

Edited by: Cpt Jericho on 19/02/2008 16:56:15 For ppl that use Vista, I did this:
1. press "start" 2. Type in searchline: c:/programdata/ccp 3. It should then display the specific map (even though my Vista is in Dutch Language, just type the line!) 4. Then I left-clicked on the map "programdata" 5. Then right-click on the map "ccp" and delete it 6. The problem should be solved...and I didnt reinstall or downloaded the client again...

1. If I am using /end /LUA:OFF, where is the directory? 2. is there any way to do this without completely nuking my cache (AGAIN! )?

I can confirm this works on Vista Ultimate 32bit English Edition
Many thanks, its a shame it took 9 pages to get a straight forward explanation.

Are you using the /end /LUA:OFF switch? I have the same situation here and am not sure which directory that corresponds to.

I did both of the suggestions for fixing the login after the new patch and neither one works. What now? I even uninstalled EVE and reinstalled and redownloaded the new patch, that didn't work. ???

And lets not forget... the NEWS page is experienceing issues and wont load. Good thing the PLAYERS at least post up how to fix the problem.
Seriously, I'm beginning to become disillusioned with CCP. THey began as a solid company with a great game and are now working their way down the path of self-destruction and Sony Online went oh so many years ago.
Personally, I believe there either must have been a personnel change or some other massive corporate issue they aren't telling us about. THis is usually the case when the devs of a game start putting out "crrap" patches.... "We're installing a patch to fix the path that was supposed to fix a patch that patched a previous patch that made the game crash due to a patch we patched to fix a patch because we don't know what happened in the first place...."

For those of you who say you have no CCP folder. You have to make sure to look in ' Hidden Files and Folders ' as well. Mine were hidden. Even after I deleted it though, it still doesn't work...

ok, so i d/l'ed the ENTIRE 1190.6 MB client, move the old ccp folder to my desktop, renamed it "oldccp" then installed the client as if it had never been on my pc before. Took for freaking ever, as expected, and now.... im online, but have NO F***ING settings, thaks a million CCP.. unTrained monkey's could have screwed this up less, and u morons are supposed to be INTELLIGENT COMPUTER PROGRAMMERS!!!! wow, and to thin, it's a ONE FIX PATCH, gratz, losers, glad to have u aboard, making the 'verse safe and fun for all us pod pilots.
now to the next item: anyone have any ideas how to get my settings back (without resetting them manualy in game), is there some magical folder i can move form the "oldccp" folder to the new?
end rant

well i did as ccp said and deleted the folder my game now wont even start so i deleted the whole thing and went to re download the game. i downloaded classic version reinstalled wouldnt start so i dl the premium upgrade install wouldnt even complete ends at 14% or somthing around there. tells me ccp has stopped working. so i went ahead and deleted all of my cpp and eve folders. i then re downloaded eve and reinstalled. it will not even boot up. now what do do i have deleted everything posible and it wont work. funny thing is i dl the new patch on my other pc it worked just fine. WTF!!!
what am i supposed to do now i have no clue shall i delete everything again and try to redownload from the start??

But quite frankly there is one patch note here so there will most likely not be any updates and I'm not even sure if there's that much to discuss anyway. But if you find something, knock yourselves out! But as usual, make sure you set a long skill training during patch day!

For those still having this problem:
1. go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP 2. rename or delete the folder EVE (I recommend renaming it just in case - rename it to eve.old) 3. This fixed it for me and my settings, overviews, etc are intact.

Edited by: Caldreis on 19/02/2008 18:35:31 I tried deleting the Application folder under XP and EVE refuse to cooperate at all. Afterward, I tried delete the EVE folder then used regular shortcut which still throw the protocol error so I instead tried the eve.exe file itself with no shortcut still having same error.
I have no idea where to post this so.
NEVER mind first time I look at the instruction, I thought it was *username document* not all user make that more clear next time. ><
