I already know how stupid this decision was, should have made a safespot yadda yadda yadda. The question is, is it possible to see somebody that's cloaked at 100km away just by the naked eye? I warped to the moon from a random planet and sat there at 100km cloaked, and had to go do something. Came back to a pod sitting in a rookie station, with a lost full Crystal beta set.
PS those are 1 run BPCs

Never sit stationary while cloaked, either...
Granted, you'd be going about as fast as the universe in expanding in a Badger, but still, it helps.

I've started to find newer people scanning with covert ops at 100Kms now. If your active with the scanner is only a few secs before your on them.

It only takes an extra minute to make a safespot as you warp in, then warp there instead.
Someone could very easily have warped in within 2km of you and simply uncloaked you that way. Heck, they may not even have been the person that killed you, though of course it's likely that they were. ________________

If you have to warp at 100 and go afk, at least take a sharp turn in some random direction, pulse your MWD and then hit cloak. Just warping in and then sit and cloak is bad. You should have thought of that yourself tho, it's not rocket science.

Yes, people tend to warp to 100. You were just unfortunate that the pirate warped in from the same side as you and happened to land on top of you. The odds? Very low....
Warping to 100 with an active pirate in the system is a sort of paper, rock and scissors, if you're really unfortunate he lands right on top of you, but often he ends ps 100+.
At least you didn't drop anything of value.

Even warping in direct alignment with your cloaked ship will pretty much uncloak you I think. So if you just stand dead in the water right in line between gates etc ships warping between them will drop your cloak.

True - 100km is therefore the worst spot. You'd be better off at 0m as those that warp to 100km (or 50km, or 10km,...) wouldn't go past, potentially decloaking you on the way.. Having said that, if you're sitting still you're a sitting duck. Move in a random direction towards open space before cloaking.
Cheers Falka

Well, I've had people uncloak at planets numerous times when I warp at 0 and have myself been "unexplicably uncloaked" in midsafes when the overview blip as people pass by, so I'd wager to say it's how it works - however I played it safe with the "I think" comment in my original post

Warping at 70 is the best. It makes those 100km battleships say aw man I'm so slow I wish I could catch him, it gives me time to align before yonder arazu decloaks and tries to scram, and it gives the warp to zero(ers) 56km to cross before I am in scram range
wt70 ftw
