Alright I have a question about NPC convoys.
Me and a fellow corp mate went out hunting for defenseless(basically) NPC convoys. We found quite a few different ones like retailer, chandler, foiler, hauler, and others. My question is: Do they only drop trade goods?? Right now that completely sucks as me and my friend were really angry thats all we could find. No weapons, no crystals, ammo, bps (which what we were hoping for), or anything. just plain old trade goods. what use does a convoy hunter have in trade goods?.. I thought they were supposed to hold something of vaule in one of them at least.
And second of all is a comment. Cargo containers really need to be made stronger. My friend accidentlly launched one too many missles and we lost two cargo containers to accidental missle explosions. Can there be a grace period on them once they are first despensed? maybe 15 seconds?
Anyways, please respond with what you have found if anything besides trade goods, and what the ship name was if you can remember it.

Just curious, how much of a security-hit did you take after killing them and how many ships was it? Haven't tried killing one myself yet.

It didn't take my main security rating down at all and same with my friend, but we did get negative status with the corporations that the convoys belonged to. And I would say we killed about 10 of them total. We gave up after all contained trade goods. HWT-Member |

Ok, nice. But perhaps it's still of some value if you have room for all the stuff they carry. I'll have to kill one of them to check it out :)

Myself and a newly found friend cleaned out 3 NPC ships today.
I had a Merlin, and blew them away, he swooped in with his indy, picked up their 'worthless' trade goods.
We docked, and split almost a half-million isk. Not bad for 30 minutes.
Just look around for the best prices in region, and sell away.

Can you tell me what cargo he got from them? the goods we got really sucked. I just wish that maybe they would drop some ship modules along with trade goods. IMO it wouldn't be a bad thing if they dropped other things besides trade goods. that is basically my complaint I guess.
**OK note. my friend just messaged me ingame and said he found 120 guns in a convoy ship...guess CCP answers prayers quickly ;) HWT-Member |

although there was 120 guns. they were only worth 750 isk a piece :/. they were like 125mm auto gattling 1's or something. so I guess it wasn't exactly what I was hoping for. HWT-Member |

We found silicon, and silicon glass or something like that.
Sounds like crap, but when it sells for 291isk each, and you get them for free...
Oh yeah, we got like 1000 cap boost 25's too, we just recycled tose and sold the minerals. This was from Haulers and 1 Trailer
Just before work I offed a Trailer and a Convoy. Got a Stasis Webifier!!! And 1500 soil, and 70+ shield boosts, and 50+ of some small damage module.
Took me a BUNCH of trips in my Merlin to get it docked, after work I will look into selling it.
Soil was going for 90isk...that's 135k isk right there. ;O
Who says you have to mine forever?

uhmm try using cargo scanner to see if its worth the trouble from now on. I would say that it should be hard to find the 'good stuff' in convoys. Like if one is hualing some rare nver been seen item or BP then it should be HEAVLY guarded as well.

they drop all sorts of junk from all sizes in ammo to all types and size of weapons
does scanners work on convoys ?
also best to find a system with a about 6+ stations as u finish 1 lot off there pops another convoy
as for demand for trade goods :( you would think they ccp make more npc demands for who like hunting them convoys ,blah they expect you to mine mine mine
haloreels is a good trade item 1 full bestower will get you a few mil
youll get bad hits to your rating if you pick on named empire stations convoys ex: royal empire ..... usually these convoys drop the luxery items like spiced wine and long limb what they call it them strange looking things with long legs

In what type of systems do you hunt? Sec lv? Is it your home space? How is the security hit?
Dang, this is what I want to do! Good topic here

Im not sure how true this is but i read a post about this a week back (havent tried it yet) which suggest two things when killing convoys. One is pretty obvious... stay 55km or more away from sentry guns. Second said that he has done convoy killing in 0.6 areas and found nothing of any note or value , howvere he said that if you kill convoys in Higher sec systems then you will find much better sruff. Try doing it in a 1 system and maybe you will find those rare unsold items...:)

I wonder if the new security changes will do so you canŠt dock with a station with bad faction. And the new sentry guns will oen fire on you on sight.
We already know this is how it will be with jumpgates.

Scanners: I have a dropped PL-0 Cargo Scanner and it has never worked on NPC convoys. (I believe a patch or two ago the notes stated that this had ben fixed?) Either the scanner does not work or the convoy isn't carrying anything.

Just a couple of points here.
The loot dropped is related to the station they left, so if it is food manufacturing you will get grain, cattle etc (slavers bring 3,300 each so can be very good trade goods). So arms factory will give you guns and ammo, and research facilities some interesting stuff.
Second is that sec standing seems to drop very fast now - and police seem to react if it is below -1 in 1.0, which is a bit of a shock if you are going for skills for example.

You have to use ship scanner on NPC ships.

Zinke: Ah...thanks. Didn't know that.
Czar BSS: I think you are missing the point with raiding convoys. You get the trade goods for free! (Even if you don't want to go look for a place to sell them, put them on the market anywhere. I see you did this, because I just bought 223 units of trade goods from you for 90,000 isk. I hauled it to some place else and made a small profit.) Put the goods up for sale and let the traders move it.

Teris Kender: Ah thnx for buying the crap, as I so lovingly put it :). Look in the same area for about 1200 holoreels, some silicon and about 700 data sheets. I'm putting up a lot of trade goods I jacked from a convoy last night. I'll make sure you get a profit margin for taking them some where nice :). Also If any traders are interested, and since this is my own thread ;), I am selling Bestowers (6748 cargo with 4 cargo expanders) for 950,000 isk. Message Czar BSS in game if interested. I am based out of Uphallant in the Placid region.
I have 5.6 security rating so I am not worried about police. It's the sentries that I am going to be scared of, if they fire on people with a certain negative faction rating wtih them ...eeek. Hopefully They won't be too angry with me killing their ships :)
O yeah! Just some pieces of info for the would be convoy hunter. Stay 50+km away from closest sentry gun. If you are any closer, your dog food. Micro warp drives help sooo much when gathering goods. I highly recommend training for them. Otherwise good luck hunting and if anybody finds rare loot, make sure to drop by this thread and tell us what ya got :).
And to answer the other question. I hunt in like 1.0 to .7 space for convoys. Like it was suggested, I just noticed last night that where ever convoys appear out of, or are found, the base that they are at is going to tell you what you are likely to get for loot. So always check Navy Assembly Plants first and often ;).

So you just stay 55K away from guns, (station and sentry), wait til you have the convoy in range and pound them?
Can you go close to station after combat is done?
Security hits?
Police not caring?

Actually if you fire on a convoy at 56km you can keep firing on that convoy even if they move right beside the station and the sentries won't care. Sometimes they will open fire once the ship is destroyed though, but that's never happened to me.

So let me get this security/faction stuff straight. As long as my security status is >= 0.0 police and gate sentry guns won't attack? Does that apply to empire faction ratings as well?
Now what about corporation faction. I've acquired a -0.15 Core Complexion and -0.50 Protequ Pharmeceuticals ratins from my convoy hunting. At what point do the station sentry guns start shooting at me?

with the new changes its at -0.2

The station guns is not what you have to worry about, it's the Navy. Check your standings with the different Factions, you'll notice that the standings with the faction who's space you are in when you are hunting have gone down. -0.35 for each convoy ship you destroy in higher sec areas. Once that gets to -3.00 the Navy comes after you in 0.7 and above.

I started convoy hunting the other night because of this thread, its great fun but I highly recomend you either
a) Have a buddy to haul the loot (It takes ALOT of trips in a Merlin).
b) Have an Indy yourself to pickup the loot with. Using shuttles you can move the Indy to the same station you are basing out of.
Also another little hint. Pick a base in the system and don't attack convoys around that base. Bookmark your base as soon as you undock (just hit bookmark).
Warp to the another station, kill the convoy. Bookmarkt he cargo then warp back and fourth until you have picked everything up. Its actually faster then AB out 100km to pickup loot then back to the base. ALOT faster.
Are navy/police ships killable?

Cargo scanners don't seem to work on NPC ships, I seen someone posted that I ahve to use a ship scanner??? Now WTF is up with that, the description of a ship scanner is to see what items the ship has installed not whats in its cargo. I wish these guys would make up thier mind on what they are going to do. I mean to require two different items to scan player ships and NPC ships is rediculous.
But back to the topic, I have only killed one NPC indy. It had 267 Fertilizer (Which there is no demand for in this whole region), and 16 robotics which was a fast 108k Spelling corrections welcome, but don't expect me to edit my post. |
