err...fix Jita??
Sounds daft, but perhaps limit the amount of market orders/contracts available in any particular system...
Result is not one particular system hosting a massively high % of that regions trade (even if it is the local hub it still wont suffer the crippling lag Jita does..)

ccp should just accept and embrace Jita as THE market hub to end all market hubs and lavish it with a supercomputeresque node that would end all supercomputeresue nodes. Just expand jita into the nearby systems.

A flexible secure system sounds cool but offers posibilitys to abuse it too (buy 1000 shuttles with an alt and shot them down).
A better posibility might be adding aditional routes to other systems close by Jita to spreed the treffic.
Two jumps over diferent routs to split Jita into two hubs.
EDIT: Oh and adding the option of personal "ignore-system" posibilitys to the auto pilot where I can set "Ignore systems with over 200 Pilots in" or just "don't fly through *Jita* (systemname)".

I believe that even if it was introduced in this way there would be alot less people in jita. I know I wouldn't go to jita if I could buy my guns and ammo at a decent price,and quantity without going into the den of the lagmonster.
One consequence of that would be an increase in suicide gankage in and around Jita. Because obviously, if you're having to lug your cargo in instead of using Interbus, it MUST be valuble...
...and as we have seen recently, suicide ganking is pretty high on the whiner parade's hit list.

I like this idea a lot, seeing jita at 1300 on weekends is disgusting when a 100 person fleet battle wont load for at least 30% of the participants.
The only concern I have is how many mouse moving bots will this bring into eve and what kind of performance hit will be caused by all those ****ty alts relogging constantly when they get booted.
That, and there is a valid reason to be camping silent in Jita or anywhere, that of reconnoitre and monitoring who is coming in/out. Especially when you're trying to keep tabs on WT's.

Easiest fix is to split the market to several nearby systems in a organized manner. Like all ships and modules in Perimeter while manufacture research stuff are still sold in Jita.
It would help, but CCP can't really "force" something like that. It's the players that has to do it.
