As some of you may know I am running an IPO that is well into its third month of operations and things are going splendid it's just that I have some questions, comments etc... to throw out to the crowd.
Do you ever participate in what I like to refer to as tweak bets on items you are selling? A good example is ammo, as I produce quite a bit and have a high turn-over rate I watch the market fluctuate everyday. When I notice that roughly 500,000 units are sold daily I know that I can not completely dominate that market, for one I can't build that fast and secondly even the buy orders I have up don't keep the flow up to sustain this rate. But, I when I go to sell I look at how many units are up for sell and what they are selling for. I may be doing this a bit different from most but I actually price higher instead of always pricing lower. Instead of going 0.01 isk lower than the lowest sell order I look at how many units are at the lowest price and the difference between him and the next order. I usually place my order in that gray zone, knowing full well that the first order will go through before mine, but that mine will eventually sell.
To back that up with numbers, it looks like this:
Cruise missile selling for 195.45 with 740 units. Cruise missile selling for 195.46 with 10,200 units. Cruise missile selling for 198.99 with 103,008 units.
I know that the market usually flows through at least this many sells per day, so instead of going in with my full batch of 150,000 cruise missiles I might split it up like so:
Cruise missile selling for 198.98 with 50,000 units. Cruise missile selling for 199.01 with 25,000 units. Cruise missile selling for 201.03 with 25,000 units. Cruise missile selling for 202.06 with 25,000 units. Cruise missile selling for 203.12 with 25,000 units.
I realize this takes up more sell orders instead of putting all 150k in one order, but this way I can actually tweak the market up and make more money than just going with the 0.01 less war. Has anyone else done anything similar but on a larger scale? Is this market manipulation 101 and I just didn't realize exactly the terms and scale?
For my STR-H IPO shareholders, I have already made enough isk this month to cover the dividend and I am hoping for a good string here in the next 10 days to finish above the 10% pure profit available for dividend payout.
