Edited by: Origim on 02/04/2004 01:56:11 Edited by: Origim on 02/04/2004 01:54:57 To put escrows for 80 Million titled "Megathorn" for 80 mil consisting of nothing more than a capsule? It is clearly an exploit- using the games flaws (careless people will claim the escrow without looking) to gain an unfair advantage (ISK) over others.
Sorry, but seeing so many capsules (even corpses!) being sold at 80 mil ISK makes me frown.
Edit 2: yes, I realise this is a full PvP game, but still...

Like Heff said on the other escrow thread, just remove the text field and let the item display as is.
Or at least let those wise to the scammers block them from their searches forever more.

Probably because there is no item in the game called a "Megathorn" so there is no exploit.
Maybe they named the pod "Megathorn".
Seriously...CCP WANTS scammers in the game. The only issue here is not so much that someone is trying to rip off some careless person as it is that the escrow window is so overloaded with crap scams it makes the whole thing near useless. There is another thread around here somewhere talking about this.

Scammers are fine. Part of the game, dandy. No problem there.
However, the SCC wouldn't allow this kind of rampant abuse of the escrow system, as it would gum up the intended purpose of escrow, and cause disharmony and discord among the nations of Eve.
So the SCC should start issuing fines for fradulent abuse of the escrow system. The could assign a GM to check escrow once in a while. Enhances RP, enhances escrow usability, makes scammers suffer--professional hazard--so everyone's happy.
Gradient is hiring. Read our Code of Conduct before applying.

they really do need to something about the excessive amounts of scams on escrow. personally i rarely use it cause i am way to lazy to bother sorting through all of the scams. tbh i think it will disappear into abscurity kinda like all of the player created missions. it is to bad to because it can be an extremely useful feature if there was an easy way to control the garbage posted on it
btw who is to say what is an unfair price?

it works both way,
Sure there are tons of scams out there, but there are also plenty of people selling stuff in escrow for rediculously low prices.
It's a flea market. most of the junk is overpriced, so you gotta dig through and hope for a treasure.
I find the items in escrow at "fair" street prices equally a waste. I might as well use the market.
Also, I get a kick out of seeing someone selling 100 pods or a newb ship for a mil isk and other such nonsense.
Simple rule, don't buy escrow items without checking out the goods.

You only have to sort through 1000 escrows when you DO NOT know what type of module you looking for. Which means you are just browsing.
Find a better argument and come again Dalman. :P
I have never had problems selling or buying through escrow.
Never had a sell order last for more than 2 days.
Never had to look more than 5 minutes to find out wether the module i was looking for was available or not.
If you know what you are looking for you have probably already narrowed your search down to 1-20 escrows. If you also have a good idea of what you are willing to pay then you have narrowed your search down to 1-10 escrows.
Inspecting 10 escrows takes less than 2 minutes.
Honestly the escrow whinning is getting a bit too much.

The problem with escrow scams is that they cluster up the menus, that means that you MUST go to each god damn station to check the escrow there, thats a fact and dont even bother arguing about it.
The name of the item on escrow should come as a title, if there are many items then the first alphabetical item name should be as title.
Simple and the only people who dont want that to happen is the people who try to scam on escrow.

Menu cluttering is not a problem caused by the scammers, it would happen anyway regardless if the menu was filled with legit order or scam orders, and there are enough orders trust me. BP orders take more space than scam orders.
And no i don't scam, i don't have the patience or inclination for it.
I don't like it when things are made easier because some people can't be arsed to scan through escrow properly.
Scamming should be in the game though. It is part of the indirect PvP and makes the market more immersive and alive, imho.

err whats wrong with just browsing? were not support to browse? rather than looking for what you want?
samething really still 100's of scamed escrows and results in browsing or looking for like twice aslong as needed. Nyuusen Ceo The Triad Alliance |

You missed the point mate. I didn't say browsing is wrong.

Yeah 100's ... no 1000's. No it's not the same. When you browse, you browse... you look at all the entry titles, checking prices, looking for something that might catch your eye. You see something that might be interesting, you inspect it. Nobody is forcing you to inspect every goddamn escrow entry.
But if you know what you are looking for you will simply sort by description and scroll down to the descs that correspond to what you want. With a quick look at the prices you 'll have already decided which ones you are gonna inspect. Now unless you were looking for a BPC of some module or ship, the escrow entries are gonna be few for the specific module.

What CCP SHOULD do is let us block people from Escrow lists... so if we spot that player XXXX is doing scams we can enter XXXX into our block list... bit like the way that chat and evemail blocking is done currently. -------------------------------------------

Though its so easy to spot them, biggest issue is the drop down not having a space between the options, that should be resolved.

Agreed, they're far too close to each other. Other than that I've no problem with escrow. |

"Ripping Off" people be it this way or corp thieves emptying corp office hangers are seen by ccp as part of the game. They have given you the tools not to get ripped off in escrow, use them. ie. inspect merchandise.
bit of advice get used to it. If your in a corp, you put measures in to try and stop getting ripped of, same with escrow.

They should remove the text entry, and allow a search feature. This would greatly improve the usability of the escrow system, and keep you from having to wade through 1000's of entries.

just delete the top scammer(spammer) every weekend and fine him 1/2 of the amount hes trying to scam...... that would cut down on the spam ...
At least what ppl seem to be complaining about is the amount of scams in escrow not the scams themselves.
scamming is ok with me just dont overdo it

I am glad there is an element of scamming in the game as it does add RL qualities but at the moment I find that this is destroying my experience on EVE more than it adds to it.
All that needs to be done to resolve the issue is to have another column that lists the actual item name. That way we can use that to sort.
If the CCP answer to that is that it's too hard to implement then you really do need to look at your staff hiring situation and get someone that know's their job properly.
ps.
Sorry for the rude comments about CCP. Sorry for posting what has been said before. Sorry for thinking that maybe CCP does care about the players feelings.

Scamming doesnt bother me - but there needs to be a filter for all the escrow scammers as it is now starting to detract from the viability and worth of Escrow itself.

I'd just like to point out that this game lags, my computer some times lags, and my mouse (optical) some times seems to shake a tiny bit when I am using it (cheep maybe? it came with the computer)
that taken into acount means that rarely I click accept escrow istead of inspect...seriously it has happened once, it was some jack-*** selling a Maller which was a shuttle and I was going to buy a maller to melt it down for a comparison. Now it was on there for 7 million...which I lost.
I think it is an exploit since lag or soemthing made me miss slightly. AND what is worse is that I often have 100m+ in my wallet and as such were I to accidently click accept on a 80m megathron that was really a pod, I'd be annoyed since in an RP sense I'd always inspect the item before I purchased it...my chartacer isn't stupid.
I would like to see that kind of thing stopped, but now I just take WAY longer to accept an escrow to make sure that no lag or anything moves the highlighted section.
*put in his two cents*

I have reported this very exploit several times to the dev's and they basicly say to bad you should check the escrow before buying.
I feel that if anyone gets taken like this they are very likly to leave the game, if a new player enters the game mines for a month works his/her tail off and then goes to buy a ship only to be taken they are goign to get very discouraged and leave.
I think it should be bannable, but the easiest solution is to empower one of the eve helpers to go through the escrow listing each day and just outright delete any deceptive escrows. It would take them 20 minutes a day to clean it up for everyone in the game. (might take longer the first few days they have to delete the fraudent escrows though)

I made a thread about this late last night before realizing that this thread already existed Anyways I think that banning people for scamming like this is a little much but there should be some sort of punishment for the people that blatantly mislabel an item to purposely scam someone. Something like a fine or security status hit should be fine. In this case people should be able to report these scams to another person (GM probably) and they would be able to implement the punishment. One option someone posted here that is probably the best and easiest is the ability to block specific people so their stuff doesnt show up.
Either way theres no excuse for not checking the merchandise first. Overpricing something as long as its not labelled something completely different isnt a scam. Just naming a shuttle as a battleship or a bpo as a copy is a scam and should be taken care of.
