i think i found the problem!!! its in the shortcut i believe! each time i use the old shortcut i allways used, it gives the PROTOCOL thing, but when i use the new shortcut that EVE putted in my desktop, it works! i tried it over and over and its allways works with the new, and gives protocol error with the old!
just try to run it directly from the eve folder and dont use shortcuts, or create a new one!

According to CCP: http://myeve.eve-online.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=1793&tid=1
Due to an unforeseen side-effect of the attempt at compiled code patching back in January it appears that the newly patched Trinity 1.0.2 client was still using the downloaded compiled.code from the hotfix in January, and thus the machonet version number did not match.
If you are getting the error "Incompatible (Protocol)" when trying to connect to Tranquility post Trinity 1.0.2 patch, it is because of this previous patch. To alleviate the problem you need to do one of the following:
1. Go into the following directory, and delete the contents: XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP Vista: C:\ProgramData\CCP Mac: /Users//Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences/p_drive/All Users/Application Data/CCP Linux: /.cedega/EVE Online/c_drive/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data 2. If you using a shortcut to launch Eve, you can simply change the case of the link, for example change C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE to C:\program files\ccp\eve

FIXED FOR ME: direct execution of eve.exe inside eve-installation-dir does now work (I thought I tried that with no luck already but I think I choosed the safemode-link in there only).
Using my old Shortcut on the Desktop does still produce the incompatible Protocol Status Message.
Thanks for all the Feedback!

It's times like this I wish ccp would implement a skill queue system. I feel sorry for all y'all that missed out on sp's 'cause of this.

If you go offline choose a longer skill, that will help you. So putting a 20D+ skill in skilling is even an insurance against havier real life accidents.

Well I'm glad that worked for you guys but i still can't connect. I tried the case-changing of my shortcut's paths, I tried using the Exe-File directly and I looked for the Application Data Folder. Funny thing, it has no "CCP" in it.
So, what should i do now?

Same here. No CCP, no direct launch. Le sigh.

Not working here. Windows XP has no file in All Users that has anything to do with CCP. Change to shortcut reverts back to caps when I open the shortcut window again. Any help pls!

for those not working: have you tried to execute the eve.exe inside windows-programdir\CCP\EVE ? This was a fix for me without deleting anything.

Edited by: Sudoku Acer on 19/02/2008 16:12:24 To all users that have a similar experience with Windows Vista to mine (means app: NONE): You have to search for a folder that¦s HIDDEN in standard settings...so check your Windows preferences first. Regards, DAN

in winxp DEU it's "c:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users\Anwendungsdaten\CCP\"
you can use environment var %APPDATA% (like echo %appdata%) to get the path on your windows xp / vista (?) system as well.

If I have the latest build, then I cant patch, and I should not have the problem as it was explained that it was because of a hotfix from the past. Is this correct or am I missing something?
