So I woke this moring to find there was a new patch that was too big to run through the Eve Auto-Updater. I downloaded and ran the patch as suggested and started getting this error. There were no problems prior and no problems after with my networking setup as I was still able to access the internet. I simply was not able to login with Eve Online. I downloaded the latest build and am still not able to login to Eve.
I still get the "Incompatible (Protocol)" error.
Who else has gotten this and what is the fix for it?

Sorry I missed the Incompatible (Protocol) thread. It looks like there are a large number of us with this problem and we're growing exponentially.
Do the boys at CCP know what "Quality Assurance" is, or do they make it a habit of pushing out updates wihtout testing it on something other than the office PC?

I still got the same problem - even though the server should be patched properly..

rename or delete the ccp folder in c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\ and then re- run the client -- BIG Lottery, BIG Deal, InEve & Portrait Server

If your a vista user, copy and paste this into your internet explorer and hit enter.
C:\ProgramData\CCP\EVE\dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63\
In the box you will see the file compiled.code rename it to compiled1.code
Restart the client. This will allow it to work with no issues.
I hope this simplifies it for everyone :)

Cmon CCP we rely on you to give us tested , time served patches not a load of BS that stops us running the client and then we have to bodge a fix ourselves. Dont you lot test your patches , youve had a month to arrange this patch download and you give us that.Time to stop drinking and start thinking....

For some win XP users the directory will be
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Application Data\CCP
Use that if there is no CCP folder under
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP

Edited by: Sang Drax on 19/02/2008 15:44:20 I'm using XP, and I don't even see a CCP folder in the Documents and Settings folder or any of the sub-folders. And option #2 was just as ineffective. What gives?

Vista: C:\ProgramData\CCP This doesn't exist for me and I still get the error. Even after a complete reinstall. Anything else?

I did every thing they said, when i lookied for that folder it dosent exist. I WANT TO PLAY F^&$ING EVE THAT i PAID FOR. I still have my pc start with some boot.ini **** and takes twice as long to start now, and still ccp dont give a ****. So what now my skill ends in a few hours, eve going to switch my damn skill for me I think not! They going to give all my money back even though it's there program that is filling my pc with error's!!! Why should I keep playing eve? so ccp can continue to charge me for the confenience of crashing my pc? I dont think so.
SO once again that all user's file isnt there I have nothing to delete, wtf!?!?!?! and to ensure a fast response when I get back from town I will post this under a new topic every hour! if they boot me fine, it was probably time to stop playing eve after almost 2 years!

Edited by: Goldis on 19/02/2008 15:50:26 As I said, try
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Application Data\CCP.
Actually, on second thought, the "All Users.SOMETHING" part, replace "something" with your windows installation directory. ----

Valaron Hope solution worked. Thanks mate!
CCP you guys really need to go back to programming 101. This patch was to fix 1 bug, people not being able to log on. 1. If I couldn't get logged on since the last patch I would never play again. 2. The patch took how many hours to deploy? Way too many. 3. It didn't work!
Do you test anything at all?

Hmm... not finding it as a hidden file either. It just seems not to exist anywhere.

Surely it is CCP who are the idiots here?! I mean seriously, release a patch and then give incorrect instructions on how to fix it.
Good job CCP.

OK, CCP, so options #1 ((no CCP folder in Documents and Settings or anywhere except main install folder) and #2 (redirecting the shortcut) don't work for me. Any other options? I'm on XP.

Edited by: Gordon Freemonkey on 19/02/2008 16:07:45 got talking to some buddies in vent as i guided them through their manual patching of their clients..
1.some have patched manually already and have the 'protocol' error.. one of them remedied this by keeping a copy of the install on hand an just reinstalled the game then manual patched and worked for him..
2.for windows specifically.. the patch is not downloaded into your program folder.. it is downloaded to your cache folder.
you find this: xp: c:\documentssettings\user\application data\ccp\eve\bin vista:c:\users\*user*\appdata\ccp\eve
if you managed to patch manually and still get the error youare pretty much SOL from my understanding or see note (1.)

the folder you need to go to is hidden, in XP open control panel, goto folder options, its on the View tab, show hidden files and folders. then the folder should show up.
